Totally Heartfelt
My mother was put in the hospital for what we thought was the flu. She passed away without warning in three short weeks from cancer. This book is a truly remarkable comfort. The song itself really tells it like it is when it comes to life, love, and loss. This book is a good resource to help you through and to remind you that you are not alone, and that things will be okay after the loss of a loved one. Although, I do suggest reading it in privacy the first time, because it will probably make you sob like a baby when you can relate it to your own memories. This book will definitely warm the soul.

Untimely death of a classmate
After the untimely death of one of my classmates, just two days before graduation, Steve Wariner's song "Holes in the Floor of Heaven" became a small stem of comfort for those who knew her. When his book was released, I found out through a local newspaper that a poem written by a former classmate of mine,in remembrance of our late friend, had been published in his book. After purchasing and reading his book, I felt an overwhelming sense of comfort knowing that there are others who know the undescribable pain that is felt after losing someone who is near and dear to you, but more importantly, the faith that we keep in knowing that one day, we will be reunited once again with our loved ones. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who has lost a loved one. This book is definitely a comfort the mind, body, and soul.

We found great comfort
My mother received this book the day my father died. The book contains letters written to Steve Wariner about how this song helped them find some comfort at the time they lost a loved one. It is comforting to know that others have gone through and survived the pain. It provided us an immediate support group. I plan to buy a supply to have on hand in case someone I know goes through this terrible ordeal.

Lessons from life for life.
This book is about so much more than martial arts. It has something to offer anyone seeking wisdom, insight and shared knowledge. I am not a martial arts fan or practitioner but I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and will reread it for the gems of wisdom it bestows.

More what we are than what we do
Lessons from the Dojo Floor helps each reader-from white belt to black belt-look at and understand why he or she trains. And for many of us, why martial art has become more what we are than what we do.

In my more than 34 years as a martial artist, like most, I have tried to own, read, or look at every martial art book I could get my hands on. I got my hands on this book and I am not letting go. I recommend each of you do the same.
Michael E. Odell

Martial Wisdom
This is not your usual book on the martial arts. The "lessons" referred to in the title concern not the how-to's of fighting technique, but rather insights, policies, ethics, and practical advice surrounding the martial arts. The lessons are divided up into roughly 113 concise aphorisms or brief biographical accounts that entertain as well as challenge and inspire the reader. The book is well-written and well-presented. It is a valuable resource for both students and instructors alike. I highly recommend this book to all practitioners of the martial arts.

Great training resource
Though the title implies implementation, I see this more as an educational resource used to train both shop floor workers and management alike. Under this context, this book is outstanding.
Excellent diagrams, charts, and photos make understanding 5S, manufacturing cells, kanbans, and techniques for setup reduction easy.
In fact, the basic concepts behind lean manufacturing are simple. The problem with most lean manufacturing books is that the authors often complicate the subject to make themselves seem as though they are smarter and have something unique to add (when they really don't). This book keeps lean simple.
Great book.

One of the best "implementation" manuals I have seen.
We are going through a major re-organization from push system manufacturing to pull manufacturing in our facility and throughout the company. This book fits in quite nicely with this endeavor. The book does a nice job of explaining concepts and implementation of the principles. It is easy to read. Additionally, it has forms for suggested use in organizing information, AND it explains the forms and how to use them. I am purchasing multiple copies for distribution to all of my Manufacturing Engineers. Too I am recommeding it for use throughout the company.

An excellent training book suited for shopfloor associates
This is a book that small and medium-sized manufacturers can use to develop in-house training materials for educating their workforce on the how-to's of WCM. The explanations are succint with simple and well-written examples, backed by the rich experience of the authors. Supplementary materials available from the authors would allow any Plant Manager to develop customized training materials specific to his/her shopfloor. A particular merit of this book is the that it recommends the sequence in which the various elements of a WCM manufacturing program ought to be taught/implemented for best results. I plan to recommend this book as a reference to undergraduates who co-op or intern at companies as part of their educational experience.

Heaven has a floor
I have found this book at the Oral Roberts University Bookstore online http://www.orm.cc/bookstore.html It is listed for 7.00, for anyone who is interesrted

Searching for this book
I was given this book as a gift from my parents when I was 5 years old. I now have a 4-year-old son who is very curious about Heaven. My copy of the book was stolen about a year ago. I would have loved to pass this book on to my son - it is a wonderful picture of what Heaven must be like!!

Excellent Biblical kids'-eye view of heaven
This book addresses the mysteries of heaven in kids' language, and is especially written for children who have lost a family member or close friend. Each page covers a different wonder of heaven with superb illustrations and supporting Bible verses. Evelyn Roberts lovingly wrote this book especially for her young grandson whose parents were killed in an airplane crash, so the tone is very intimate and is best read aloud.

A Non-Stop, Don't-Drop Book!!! It was, SPELLBINDING!
I grabbed this book online on a lark... and am I ever glad I did! I couldn't put it down! From the opening bell of the trading pit in the first paragraph, the author takes off at the speed of the markets, sidetracking only to share the lessons hard-learned along the way. For the first time ever I read about an "Everyday Joe" who buckled up for daily war and successfully fought to win in the greatest financial wars our society knows. He also lets us in on his REAL personal life, his fears, and the dichotomies and dilemnas of being a devout Christian operating ethically and morally in a world that most Christians neither understand nor condone. This is a work that stands for ANYONE trying to succeed in an arena that at first appears counter to their chosen values, regardless of religion or career. If you're reading these reviews to help you decide, STOP HERE! CLICK THE BUY BUTTON! It's the best trade you'll make today!

A quick and enjoyable read with many excellent insights.
"Lessons from the Pit" is a page-turner! It is an honest and easy-to-read account of life in the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. What makes it so fascinating is the way Joe and Terry bring characters and scenes to life and use them to show how God worked in Joe's life. No matter what their career, all readers will come away with valuable insights and helpful suggestions. My only wish is that the book had been longer. I didn't want to put it down.

Dynamic Parallels
Joe Leininger provides great insight in his daily efforts to be both a good and Christian person with his success as a commodities trader.

Few businessess are as brutally competitive as trading in Chicago exchanges. However, with great faith and works, Joe obviously holds to his strong Christian values in this tough environment.

This book helps me come to grips with striving for success while hoping to maintain the fundamental value of helping and loving one's fellow man (or woman).

A Sea of Secrets and Emotion
That Don Lynch and Ken Marschall have produced yet another great Titanic title is not a surprise but the beauty of this volume surpasses any book on the subject previously published and the sensitive approach the authors take is matchless. The incredible undersea photos, culled from James Cameron's 2001 expedition, are at once stunning and disturbing, revealing the unexpected, illuminating not only the life of this once proud vessel but the lives of the men, women and children who sailed on and were lost with her. Titanic has in fact never been seen in such an intimate, immediate way.

The text is Don Lynch at his story-telling finest. His comparison of the 1912 sinking to the disaster of September 11, which occured while the Cameron dive was in full swing, is especially powerful.

This book is likely the best that will ever be published on Titanic as she is today - alone, rusted and dead on a seabed, yet wonderfully alive, lost but fantastically found, inhabitated now only by ocean life and, yes, as one is convinced from the extraordinary images, by a great many ghosts.

An incredible achievement!
In 'Ghosts of the Abyss', Ken Marschall and Don Lynch have done what the Titanic community has invisioned for years and compiled a photographic record of views from inside the Titanic wreck. The images of the Titanic's interiors are truly amazing and lay reference to the beauty of the ship's former glory. Views of the Reception and Dining Room, as well as several first class staterooms give a truly passionate and humane view of the Titanic. Never before has the ship been reached on such a personal level. Nothing like this has ever been seen before, it is truly an incredible achievement of a book and a must have. My congragulations go out to the authors, Mr. Marschall and Mr. Lynch, with thanks to James Cameron. Well done!

Beautiful book, wish they'd put the movie out on video
While not a very big book at just 143 pages this is one of the nicer Titanic books I've seen. Dedicated to both those who died during the sinking and those who died September 11, 2001 (while the film project was underway)the fist chapter gives a quick but detailed history of the Titanic folowed by several chapters devoted to the crew's exploration and filming of the shipwreck and it's aftermath.
I really liked the photos of the wreck as it is now, especially when compared with similar period photos, and the computer graphic reconstructions were amazing. Many of the photographs seemed very familiar, I was surprised to see so many of things that had somehow survive breaking and kind o depressed to see the signs of collapse that the wreck is now going through.
I sure wish I could've seen the movie, hope it comes out on video soon and I'd like to see much more work of this type doen before it's too late.

THE RIGHT TO PRIVACY
Although the word "privacy" does not appear in the United States Constitution, most Americans believe that their right to privacy is not just legally protected but fundamental to their lives, their way of living, and this country's democratic system. Abstract and difficult to define, privacy is nonetheless perceived as one of our most basic and coveted rights.

But is it? How well are we protected? And what, exactly, are we protected from?

Through a seamless interweaving of landmark cases, lesser - known but equally important trial decisions, and dozens of anecdotal narratives, Ellen Alderman and Caroline Kennedy, authors of the best - selling In Our Defense, make an urgent and complicated issue more absorbing and accessible than ever before. In thier hands, we can finally see the law translated into relevant human experience.

The Right to Privacy delves into six general areas: Privacy versus Law Enforcement, Privacy and Your Self, Privacy versus The Press, Privacy versus The Voyeur, Privacy in the Workplace, and Privacy and Information. Can you refuse to comply when a police officer asks to look through your luggage? Is there anything you can do to prevent all those computerized data banks from filling up with more and more personal information about you? Can television cameras follow a breaking news story right into your home? Does your boss have a right to know that you are homosexual? a smoker? dating a co - worker? Who is entitled to make life - or - death decisions for someone who is no longer able to do so? Legally, the answer to each of these questions revolves around the right to privacy.

We live in a society in which our right to privacy is much discussed, misunderstood, and, in many cases, seriously threatened. The Right to Privacy will enrich the discussion, shed light on many of the misunderstandings, and illuminate the real - life, everyday impact of one of the most important issues of our time.

A GENUINE CONTRIBUTION TO CIVIL RIGHTS
Well-researched & written, this fine book is clear enough for high school students, which makes it a good book for grownups, too. Section by section, Alderman & Kennedy examine the really difficult cases & issues regarding our right to privacy, including many that were settled in ways that pleased practically no one.

If you are curious about what really concerns this very private younger Kennedy, read "The Right to Privacy" or the earlier Alderman & Kennedy book on the Bill of Rights. Both are terrific.

Excellent... if you're the right audience.
This book is written by a couple of lawyers who specialize in privacy issues. It is essentially a collection of thoughly researched court cases with added commentary from the authors. As such, it reads like...well... a collection of court cases.

A copy was originally lent to me by a very well-read and intelligent friend of mine who considered it overly dry. I, on the other hand, loved it. It's very details-oriented from cover-to-cover and packs in a wealth of information that is invaluable to anyone interested in the legal aspects of privacy.

A Valuable Handy Reference for EVERYBOY in GROUP LEADERSHIP
This is an easy-to-use, unique, simplified, commonsense approach to rules for group leadership. It is based on the famous Robert's "Rules of Order."

I would recommend this handy pamphlet be kept close by, for all leaders and officers in small-to-medium sized clubs, fraternal orders, conventions, conferences, meetings, and organizations where orderly progress of business is desired. The beauty is, you don't have to memorize any rules, if you have this reference "at a glance".

This great booklet features the 22-page insert of tabulated easy reference called the "split-page" Finder Index for in-meeting use to locate specific situations.

Especially helpful are the easy-reference question-and-answer charts, which answer the eight basic aspects of every "motion".

I never go into a meeting, anymore, without this valuable handy reference in the briefcase or on the desk! Worth its weight in gold in avoiding surprise or challenging situations!

This is the one
This is the one you want if you are a novice at parliamentary procedure. After experiencing several unruly church conferences I began looking for an easy to use book, this is it. The center of the book indexes all the basic procedures you will need. I compliment the author in making it easy to use and not making the reader drowsy.

Lightning fast lookup for Robert's Rules
There are two kinds of reference books, the kind that has a complete discussion on every question you can think of on a particular subject, and the kind in which you can actually find what you're looking for right now.

This work is one of the latter. It is no substitute for Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised, the truly definitive work on the subject, which belongs in the library of every PTA president, budding politician, or C-SPAN junkie. But once you've done your homework and understand the principles of parliamentary procedure, it is Garfield Jones' book, not Henry Robert's, that you bring with you to every meeting (or wish you had.)

Thin enough (just 90 pages) to get lost under your agenda, the book is uniquely suited to be used, in real time, in the meeting, in the trenches.

It is one of the most cleverly designed tools I've seen, planned from the ground up, or rather from the middle out, to live up to its "at-a-glance" title. Open it to the center staple, and you'll be looking at the index--two short (literally half height) pages. Above them stand two ranks of staggered-length pages that serve as a table of the various motions, and their order of precedence from the normal order of business, main motions, up through amendment, referring to committee, calling the question, tabling, points of order, adjournment--all visible at once.

The cut pages serve as index tabs, so you can instantly flip to the reference page for that motion. (When you do, motions of lower rank, now out of order, are hidden, while those of higher rank remain visible above.)

A glance at the reference page shows a table of rules pertaining to that particular motion: does it require a second, allow for debate, need a simple majority to pass, or a two-thirds vote?

Then, most useful for the member (or presiding officer) still learning the ropes, is a complete sample dialog of the proper form for making the motion, stating the question, putting to a vote, and announcing the result.

Example: "The 'Noes' have it, and the amendment to the amendment is lost. Is there any further discussion on the original amendment?"

The remaining pages in front and back of the book contain lesser-used but highly valuable material on general parliamentary principles, the strategic uses of some motions (not just how to make them, but when and why), and how-to sections on chairing a meeting, taking minutes, holding nominations and elections, and ballot counting. If it's not applicable, useful, and practical, it's not in there. But if you need it, there's a good chance that you'll find it, and quickly enough to do you some good.

There is one minor error and one intentional rule-bending, both in regard to the Motion to Reconsider, but that's one of the most rarified points of procedure. It occurs on the final exam in Parliamentarian School, but not in real life on this or any nearby planet. If you really need to know it in any detail, you'll need to open two things: your full copy of Robert's Rules and the cork of a fortifying beverage.

Three word review: A real find.

War on the Floor: An Average Guy Plays in the Arena Football League, and Lives to Write About It

A new perspective
People often wonder what it would be like to live life over again - what they might change if they knew what they know now. I used to think that maybe I could have been more of an athlete and maybe a football player...but this book made me happy to be where I am, which is in the stands, where I belong. This book provides you a fabulous firsthand look at the life of a football player from inside the locker room and on the field. It's sometimes humorous, sometimes serious, but very entertaining the whole way through.

Even though it's the Arena League and not the NFL, it's no less of an accomplishment to make it to this level of competition. This really hits home when Jeff describes one player who quit the Firebirds training camp saying that he had no idea that guys in this league were as good as they were.

The opportunity for a writer to join a team in this manner to get this perspective and this story may never happen again, so if you ever thought you'd like another shot at life to become one of those guys you see on television, read this book...then join me in the stands.

Foley Lives Out The American Dream
Playing professional football is the dream of almost every boy in America, but as they play Pop Warner, high school, and in some cases, college football, most realize that making it big is just an illusion.

Jeff Foley never played Pop Warner, high school or college ball, but the 30-year-old participatory journalist still lived out his little-boy dream. Foley played professional football for the Albany Firebirds of the Arena Football League in 1999 and 2000, and wrote a detailed book that takes readers inside the life of an arena football player, and inside their dreams. "War on the Floor" is Foley's written documentary, an exhilarating masterpiece in which he struggles with the day-to-day complications of being an undersized, out-of-shape professional athlete.

It all came about while Foley was reading a George Plimpton book - "Open Net." Plimpton, a writer-turned-Boston-Bruins-goalie, documented what life was like as a professional hockey player. Foley later came across an advertisement in a local paper, an invitation to a Firebirds' free-agent tryout. That's when an idea popped into Foley's head - he wanted to play for the Firebirds and write about the experience.

"I ran it by my editor, and they don't usually run first-person type of things, so I didn't think they'd go for it, but they did," Foley said. "And they let me do it."

Foley played his first game as an offensive specialist/writer against the Milwaukee Mustangs in 1999 with no practices under his belt. He only knew one play; he was a stranger to his teammates; and the experience would only be documented for a couple articles.

In that game, Foley participated in just one play. He didn't catch the ball, and after the game, he was back to being just a writer. But that status didn't last long.

During the off-season, Foley met with Firebirds, who were now the defending ArenaBowl champions, and discussed writing a book for which he would endure all of the 2000 training camp and preseason games. The Firebirds gave their blessing, but warned Foley he would have it no better than the next man. Being a writer would earn him no special privileges.

"War on the Floor" goes inside Foley's head, leading readers on a step-by-step tour of a professional training camp. The two-a-day practices are documented to perfection, even letting readers experience what it's like to go up against a 6-foot-5, 300-pound lineman.

Foley also breaks down how players become closer with each passing day.

"The guys (from the team) that I'm friends with, I'm better friends with than people I've known my whole life," Foley said. "Going through something that physically challenging with 30 guys, you can't help but bond."

"War on the Floor" also looks closely at numerous players, talking about everything from their backgrounds and religions to their musical preferences. Often, Foley tells where the players started their careers, and how they hope to make it to the NFL. Or, in some cases, back to the NFL.

As Foley became closer to the Firebirds, he also became closer to touching the ball in a game. During his first contest in 2000, he participated in just one play again, and with family and friends chanting his name, and other fans chanting "Rudy," he was penalized for being offsides, and was left wondering if he'd ever touch the ball in a game.

But during the next week of practice, Foley got better at catching the ball, giving his quarterbacks confidence, and gaining respect from other players. He gained enough respect, in fact, that quarterbacks Mike Pawlawski and Jeff Loots promised to get him the ball.

After the first play of his last game, though - which again did not result in a reception - Foley thought it was over. Late in the fourth quarter, however, coach Dailey sent Foley back in. With backup Raymond Philyaw at quarterback, though, Foley figured he'd just be going through the motions again. He was wrong.

Dailey called for a play that didn't involve Foley, but Philyaw threw him the ball anyhow. The 5-foot-6 Foley caught it, dove to the ground, and was touched for a loss of two yards, but the Firebirds celebrated that night like Jeff Foley was the league MVP.

Reading this book, one can't help but feel like a part of the whole experience. Foley does an outstanding job letting readers know what goes on behind the scenes in the Arena Football League, and inside one of America's dreams.

Living every football fan's dream
A book every true football fan should read. Author Jeff Foley is allowed to spend the preseason as a member of the Albany Firebirds of the Arena Football League, not as a reporter hiding in the shadows but as a true professional football player. That's the rule, he is to be treated just as any other player on the team. As a rookie he receives his share of hazing but also earns the respect and support of his team mates because Jeff proves his courage, heart and his unwillingness to quit. From pregame preparation talks to post game meetings, Jeff Foley shows that there really is a special man behind each and every face mask. The reader learns that even though the players come from different backgrounds and may even be compeating for the same roster spot, a team is a unique type of family. Locker room antics, childhood memories, daily practice sessions and the games are interlaced into a "can't put it down" story.
