Being a woman, I realize that I'm already at a disadvantage when it comes to buying a car. Not that I'm a woman, but that the approach car dealers use towards women and their attitudes towards women are so uncalled for, so disrespectful and so not acceptable. They assume just because I'm a woman that I don't know what I'm doing or that I need the help of a man to buy a car.

Well, thanks to Pique Lyle and her most incredible and informative book, I learned so much about every aspect of buying, leasing, and financing a car. I was able to walk into the dealership showroom and buy my new car with all the dignity and confidense in the world, and tons of amunition to negotiate the best deal ever. Her book was also extremely funny and so easily read and understood... I would recommend this book to everyone who's in the market for a new automobile, male or female.

Thanks again Pique for the best book I've ever bought. I literally saved thousands, thanks to you...

Thank You for the greatest advise!!!

I loved this book! I was very concerned about buying a car. Now I am well informed and prepared to stand my ground. Many of the key points have been mentioned by other auto experts. I do not feel so vulnerable now when I walk into the showroom. This book is must for anyone thinking about a car purchase. I am so glad it has become part of my auto purchasing research library. I now see all the things I did incorrectly last summer when I first glaced at some models. I also laugh about the crap that the saleperson said to me and the stupid questions he asked. I won't be visiting that dealership again. I'll drive by in my pre-owned Grand Am (baby #2 :)) and wave and I will laugh and thank Pique again.

A complete eye opener !

When someone reccomended the book to me , I thought it would probably not be of any help considering I've purchsed several cars and thought I pretty much thought I had the idea of the whole thing....But Pique's book opens new ideas that I had never even thought of as being a rip off ...the book is definitley worth buying , considering you will learn soo many new things in a clear , light hearted manner ! A car buyer must!

This is one of the most useful "How To" books I've read. As a Certified Financial Planner I am called upon by clients all the time for advice on buying or leasing vehicles. I now either recommend PKs book or loan them my copy. For those of you who are frightened of doing the math that buying a car requires, don't be. PK walks you through clear, easy to follow examples of how to figure out what to offer and how to go about it. And, this is a just plain fun book to read.

I was in the market for a new vehicle, and even being a guy, I was not 100% sure of what I was going up against with the car dealers. Ms. Lyle's book is informative, entertaining and a MUST read for anyone who is considering buying or leasing a vehicle. I purchased the book, read it completely a few times, and went to the dealership and saved almost $3000! Buy this book!

Having had the pleasure of visiting with Mr. Doering personally while working in a north Chicago dealership, he provided a very down to earth, easy to understand way of looking at the pros and cons of leasing an automobile. The book has been a tool for me ever since. Good Job and I'll look forward to more.

My wife and I both read this book -- and we both learned how to lease a new family car correctly! The book is written to the audience of private consumers. The author explains the pluses and minuses of leasing and compares leasing vs. buying. I'll read it again before I lease our next car.

Buzz Doering's, "The Buzz on Leasing" is terrific! While many articles on car leasing seem to lean toward the negative, Mr. Doering clearly describes how leasing can be much better than purchasing.

I like the idea of pocketing the difference in payments and investing or utilizing that amount over the term of the lease. I also like having a new car that is in warranty. If you purchase, your warranty would expire in the third year with perhaps 2 more years to go on the financing.

Thanks Mr. Doering for your easy to understand ideas!

I read construction funding, prematurely perhaps, as one of my first ever real estate books - and I loved it! The book takes the reader through several once-real-life scenarios and explains the construction process step by step. I think that both ambitious beginners and more seasoned loan officers and developers would benefit from reading this book.

The third edition of Construction Funding by Nathan S. Collier et al is a remarkable demonstration of insight and expertise. Collier and colleagues provide an exceptionally lucid description and analysis of the process of real estate development that is accessible to non-experts while being authoritative at the same time. In addition to being an excellent text for students and others interested in careers in real estate development, this book serves as essential background for all those whose responsibilities include any part of the development process.

As a University of Chicago economics PhD and Professor of Real Estate Finance at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, one of the few business schools that teaches the real estate business in a thoroughgoing way, Peter Linneman is the top real estate finance academic in the country. I recently heard him speak at a conference on real estate mergers in NYC, and he was one of the best professional speakers of any kind that I have ever heard in 20 years of real estate law practice. His splendid textbook, Real Estate Finance & Investments, reads almost exactly like he speaks. It's like a superb, clear, and witty set of lectures, all encapsulated in a textbook. Linneman is not only a topflight academic, but has substantial direct involvement in the real estate business. This very much shows in the book, which takes the most abstract scholarly knowledge and makes it easy to understand through examples of crystalline clarity. It is a godsend to those who work in the real estate sector that someone as smart as Linneman would take the time to write this awesome textbook, which not only must be the best textbook on real estate finance, but is one of the best textbooks of any kind I have ever read.

There are only opportunitities, and no risks in buying and reading this super textbook.

Review Date: 2008-04-28
Peter Linneman, almost an academic celebrity in Real Estate, heralds from the The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He writes the book like he's talking in a conversational manner. It makes you feel like you're in a college classroom!

The book is an insightful read for those looking to learn the basics about real estate finance. The book covers a lot of pro forma analysis and breaks down the basics of valuing real estate. It has a fair amount of spreadsheet examples to deliver the valuation lessons and builds examples from the beginning of a valuation analysis, as though you're going to start your own valuation project and spreadsheet. Topics include feasibility analysis, bankruptcy basics, commercial mortgage-backed securities, REITs, private equity, and real estate cycles.

Considering how short the book is, it's very worth the read. It took me two weekend days. This is also one of the books required for the first exam of the CAIA. To get the best price on this book, buy it straight from Linneman's web page; it is the cheapest there.

Very well written book, the same style as his quarterly research letter. This is a fantastic real estate 101 introductory book. I wouldn't call it a real estate finance 101 book because of the lack of exercises. This book is a great textbook to parrallel the Brugerman real estate finance textbook (more finance exercise oriented). This book fills the conceptual gap the Brugerman textbook fails to hit at a basic level. Highly recommended as a supplement to any real estate curriculum.

Secrets to a Successful Eviction for Landlords and Property Managers: The Complete Guide to Evicting Tenants Legally and Quickly, by Certified Property Manager Carolyn Gibson, is the landlord and property manager's common-sense guide to the practical and legal considerations of evicting a tenant. Never a pleasant process, Gibson acknowledges a wide spectrum of difficulties that can come along with evictions.

Gibson provides her overview in an organized and easy-to-understand format, beginning with a chapter that evaluates possible reasons for evicting a tenant, and ending with an assessment of preventive measures and ways to tie up loose ends that may help to prevent future eviction situations, which can be costly as well as emotionally and financially damaging to all parties involved. Throughout the book, Gibson provides scenarios from her own experience as a property manager that serve as examples of what can go wrong with a tenant.

While encouraging professionalism and respect for tenants, Gibson provides a thorough manual for business owners who seek to protect their property and its assets, even when the decisions that must be made are far from easy. An appendix at the end of the book provides sample forms essential for record-keeping. Gibson's comprehensive, no-nonsense guide is sure to be helpful, to both new and veteran property managers alike.

A Helpful Handbook

By evicting tenants without an attorney's aid, Carolyn Gibson learned her lessons from the ground up. She shares these lessons in Secrets to a Successful Eviction, along with a wealth of helpful advice and guidelines for making difficult decisions.

She covers topics such as preparing for court, selecting an attorney if necessary, evicting a HUD tenant, and renting to family or friends. Gibson also sprinkles her book with advice on how to avoid evictions by choosing tenants carefully and writing tight lease or rent agreements.

Throughout the book, Gibson references different forms that a smart landlord should be using. One of the best features this book offers is a section at the back that provides these forms, such as an apartment inspection form, an incident report, and others. Secrets to a Successful Eviction would be a helpful handbook to anyone who rents their property or would like to rent it.

Review Date: 2008-12-12
Carolyn Gibson does an excellent job in this book showing the "ins" and "outs" of the eviction process. Yes, this is a rather unpleasant subject, but Gibson shows how the eviction process can be done as quickly, efficiently as possible. The book does explain that eviction should be a last resort and should be done only when a tenant is unruly or refuses to pay the rent. Gibson explains that this is because the landlord will have to pay the rent if the tenant is evicted.

The book then cleanly lays out the action which landlords should take when evicting a tenant. Also, the book provides very good advice as to how the landlord should approach the situation. Gibson explains that the landlord should take a calm, rational approach, and Gibson also outlines how the landlord should deal with an angry, emotional tenant.

In addition, Gibson also goes through what a landlord must do if they own a Section 8 home. The different procedures are outlined and explained that way the landlord will not have quarrels with HUD (Housing in Urban Development) who is in charge of Section 8 housing. In another chapter, Gibson implores the landlord to document everything they possibly can when starting the eviction process. Gibson shows how important it is to have tangible documents and explains which ones will be the most important. All throughout the book, Gibson speaks clearly on how to make this unpleasant process tolerable, and also, what steps a landlord should take to prevent evictions from ever taking place. This book is really helpful for anyone who is a landlord or is looking to become a landlord, and I highly recommend it.

One wouldn't take an old canoe out on the lake without first making sure that it was water-tight. In Carolyn Gibson's new book Secrets to a Successful Eviction for Landlords and Rental Property Managers, the same theory applies. Gibson gives property managers the necessary tools and know-how to not only evict someone but also to make sure that the appearance in court is open-and-shut.

The second great thing about Gibson's book is that she focuses, above all else, on how to avoid an often-expensive, emotional eviction case altogether. She gives great tips and guidelines on what legal steps need to be taken for a slew of infractions, and she writes excellent how-to scenarios, on an elderly person paying rent late to tenant drug use or even pet control. She also gives clear instructions on how each and every step should be documented in case an eviction is finally necessary.

For new landlords or property owners, this book is a must-read. The title points to this being solely about the eviction process, but it's not. It is also a manual on how to be the best landlord one can be.

This book is very informative, very well organized and has excellent reference charts in each chapter for quick and convenient review. Chapter 15 contains a helpful"...collection of individual state summaries from every chart referenced in the earlier chapters..." of the book. The helpful appendices at the back of the book provide detailed information regarding various environmental hazards that may require landlord disclosure, the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act and Fair Housing information. I plan on keeping this book close to my desktop for quick reference regarding landlord/tenant issues that come up. I recommend this to both new and experienced landlords. I have not yet had a chance to examine the accompanying CD, but, look forward to doing that next...

It covers every major area of the process. It gives many examples of points discussed. It gives tips and warnings for you to avoid getting talked into a bad lease. It covers brokers, lawyers, contracts, and more. It does not give a sample lease because it says they are all so different and amendable. Read this or risk getting stuck in a bad lease for 3-5 years and learning the hard way you could have done a lot better if you were informed.

The "Lease Option Documents Collection" gave me every contract and form I needed to sell my first property using the lease-option strategy.

It couldn't be any easier!

First, Matthew Chan provides the forms and contracts. He also provides examples of them accurately completed. And even better still, he provides a disk that gives you an audio explanation of everything. You're then able to download the documents for your personal editing and contract execution.

If you've see the many versions of contracts and forms in numerous books like I have, then you know the nagging questions that make you reluctant to use them. This reference book/CD combination are the absolute best. They virtually take you by the hand, instructing you on how to complete iron-clad contracts that define every aspect of the lease agreement and the subsequent sale under terms of the option agreement.

"So easy, even a caveman can do it."

What could be better than that?

Matthew Chan's "Lease-Option Documents Collection" made it so easy that even I could do it!

. . . And I did!

I will be honest with everyone. When i first got started in real estate i was using plain jane documents and leases. I mainly deal with lease options and selling them on owner fiance. So when i checked his site out and saw a collection of the same documents matthew uses. I knew i had to pick this up. This is a great collection because he takes it a step further. Matthew actually shows you how to fill them out. So many investors just leave you with blank documents. Matthew also includes a audio cd wich explains each document step by step. Within this collection is also the most powerful document one can have. A relase from the lease document that is a must need. Once again another great book by matthew chan. THese documents are actually being used by me in my daily real estate activities. While i have edited them and changed them to fit my business. These are great baseline documents that will help any new investor. So if yo deal in lease options, then you have to check this collection of contracts out.

The Author had done a superb job collating all the documents you may ever need if you ever do (or are doing) Lease Options. Everything from the `Lease and the actual Option paperwork to `Move Out & Abandonment policy' to the `Property Inspection Document'.

Along with the Documents the Author has included a demo document that has been filled out. This gives you a term of reference and doesn't leave you hanging (so you don't have to guess what goes where).

This package also contains a CD with not only the documents (so you can print them off (you won't have to photocopy them) AND Edit them (add your logo and/or customise the docs to your area), but also an audio focusing on each document. The audio is done by the author and his manager and so they talk about each document from their own viewpoint and their wealth of experience.

Lastly due to the number of houses the Author has bought he has had to go to court to remove non-payers. He uses these documents adn so you know these documents have stood up in a court of law, so rather than doing them yourself (and have the risk of it being deemed not acceptable), if you buy these, in my mind your sleep easy factor will be much better!

This really is a great package. Very impressed with it!
