A Fair Guitar Tab Book
This book is called "Everclear: Sparkle and Fade" and I have no idea why this store calls it "SPARKES and Fade". This is a guitar tab book of Everclear's 2nd album "Sparkle and Fade" and it is OK. The tabbing is fine, except a few wrong tabbed parts once or twice. The book is VERY expensive and I don't no why a simple paperback tab book should cost this much! If you really hate printing tabs off internet pages and you are totally obssesed with Everclear, order this, but if not - beware because you're in for a major disapiontment! By the way, there is a cool and beautiful poster that comes with the book and is connected with the last page...

we all sparkle and fade
i don't know why that other person was so negative because i have the same book. and regradless of what he said i believe that book is outstanding. Warner Bros. is the publishing company and i have always trusted them with all of my books, from Collective Soul to Jewel. they have, in this book, all of the songs that you would find in the second album and i would recommend this book to anybody that likes to play this type of music.

A true remembrance of Kurt Cobain
This is one of the best books I have read, and I have read several. It doesn't go into great detail but it does show Kurt in a respectful light and truly lets you realize what an extraordinary man Kurt really was. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Not your typical old fashioned mystery
Very 90's heroine returns home after a split with her lover Liz to find she has inherited an old theatre. Her relationship raises no eyebrows with the eccentric family, all of whom have a theatrical past.

Way too many characters to keep straight. I finally got tired of re-checking whom was whose child, sister.etc..

Nothing really tense or suspenseful. Too much time is taken to point out the family's indiosyncrasies and not enough solid mystery.

good mystery with quirky characters
This is the second of Borton's books that I have read. This is apparently the first of the series. The characters are outrageous and the mystery is pretty good also.

Wacky, Comical Mystery With A Heart
The writing is simple but the plot is full of imagination. Star of the silver Screen, Mae Liberty abandons Hollywood for small town life yet when she dies the whole family (all of whom are some how involved in the "industry") come rushing home.

Quirky and entertaining, Mae has planned out her death scene yet all goes awry and her last word uttered is "Rosebud" - her funeral hits the papers and reporters from around the country show up but not before a murder and arson are committed.

Now her beloved niece Gilda must figure out how to keep her great-aunt's movie theater open while she tries to solve a mystery. The book is filled with flamboyant, colorful and crazy characters - all of whom you will fall in love with.

This was a funny and easy read that I highly recommend for a quick beach read or a rainy Sunday.

Try Heavier Than Heaven
I haven't read this book but I have read some of the author's previous work, "Some Great Reward," which documented Depeche Mode. That book is completely inaccurate. My favorite error is when it says Dave Gahan (lead singer of Depeche Mode) never did any drugs. I suppose the book was written before drug charges were filed against him and before he tried to slit his wrists. Gahan's drug problems were huge.

Instead try "Heavier than Heaven." This book is filled wth quotes from Kurt Cobain's family, friends and business associates. It seems to be a fairly accurate portrait.

well,...
The story behind Kurt Cobain is extremely interesting, and I for one kept wanting to know more as I read. I would not say that the book is very well-written, though. I would definitely recommend something about Cobain for someone looking for an interesting biography, but not necesarily this particular book.

It is a fair book
This book displays only the main points of the history of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. I feel that it was a good book to read, if you have the time, but "Cobain" or "Come As You Are" would be wiser choices.

missed the mark
This book claims to take the fear out of programming but it jumps right into writing raw code in "Advanced" mode as opposed to coding in "Normal" mode which I would assume to be the logical first step.

The author does a good job of introducing the ActionScript language by using metaphors but failed to get me to actually program anything.

This book is not for designers, maybe it is for programmers but, I would guess that programmers would require more depth than this book provides.

Has Its Ups and Downs
As others have stated, this book has errors, and what's worse those errors are not even pointed out on the book's website. The least the author/publisher could do is keep the website up-to-date.

The good part is this book does contain some interesting effects with ActionScript, but this is not a book for ActionScript beginners. It is for people with either some background in ActionScript already, or with JavaScript. Otherwise, you will be frustrated very quickly. The quality of the physical publication is quite high with excellent paper stock, full color throughout and long book width. New Riders, to their credit, rarely produces cheap physical products.

In all, this book has some good meaty content, but poor technical editing to catch the errors mars its overall usefulness; hence the mixed review.

Great for learning common ActionScript tasks
This book is great for learning how some of the great Flash tricks are done. I'm not a designer or Flash programmer by trade, but after perusing this book I was able to employ my knowledge of similar ECMA languages to ActionScript and create sliding and fading effects as well as a few others.

Highly recommended for someone trying to expand their ActionScript toolset.

Fade in: The Screenwriting Process

The guy can't write.
This is probably one of the worst written books I've ever read. The guy can't write. His sentences look like they've been created by a child. He lacks good judgment (if he has any at all), not to mention good taste. There are parts in this book that gave me the impression he is not very bright either.

Apart from the fact that he never sold a screenplay (there are good screenwriting instructors who never even wrote one), the worse thing is that Mr. Berman is a terrible teacher. The only idea he successfully communicates is that he is the last person on planet Earth from who anyone should get advice on writing screenplays.

For the sake of mercy and charity and other good qualities I like to use sometimes, I will refrain myself from commenting the included screenplay (and also the decision to publish it in there).

Anyone trying to write or sell a screenplay should very actively avoid this book.

There are better books!
This is a true stinker. The text is riddled with self-justification and the third draft of the included screen play is just a true prize. Buy Ken Dancyger's book "alternative screenwriting" instead, 'cause that's brilliant.

Fade In - The Screenwriting Process by Robert A. Berman
Of all the books I read on screenwriting, I loved
Fade In the best. It has become a bible for me. Berman is honest and modest. He tries and succeeds to be helpful. I feel like I have a mentor sitting beside me as I write. He changed my life.
Instead of writing novels I have now turned to screenwriting because of this book. Berman lifts out his hand and pulls you up.
