SPARKS THINKING ON TOPIC OVERLOOKED IN ORGANIZATION CHANGE.
Explores the design of the physical workplace and the role this factor plays in improving productivity and operational effectiveness. Based on a four-year research project conducted by the MIT School of Architecture and Planning's Space Planning and Organization Research Group, this book introduces the concept of Process Architecture, meaning engaging a wide array of stakeholders in rethinking the dynamic relationship between work processes and the spatial, technological, financial, and organizational environments with which these processes occur. The authors provide a comprehensive explanation of the approach and framework with cases from the field. For those concerned with organizational strategy and design, this work introduces a key aspect-the workplace-often overlooked in organization change initiatives. This is an thoughtful book with original thinking. Highly recommended. Making a difference made simple ~ Highly Recommend!
Mark Sanborn's book " The Fred Factor" is a wonderfully written wake up call to stop, smell the roses and share them with others. The book shows us how to make a difference in life not only for others but also for ourselves. He opens the door step by step in well-explained detail. Reminding us that we all can be "Fred's". A must read for exploration into the obtainable process of making life beautiful. Highly Recommend!

Do you want to be Extraordinary??
Mark Sanborn's book, The Fred Factor, is the simplest, yet most impressive book on helping people turn their lives from ordinary to extraordinary. The transformational power of this book is that it pulls numerous seemingly insignificant examples from everyday life to illustrate how simple it is to actually do this. Inspired by the selfless and inspiring acts of Mark's postman, we are treated to a hundred different ways of how to make our everyday lives extraordinary! So much of our lives we have been raised to find an extraordinary job, marry an extraordinary spouse, become a member of an extraordinary house of worship, write an extraordinary book, when in fact, the focus has been all wrong! External events, people, or circumstances do not dictate living an extraordinary life. It is mastered and executed by YOU! Just this whole shift in focus is enough to motivate most of us out of our futility and into changing ourselves to that different life we are searching for. This book is empowering and will open your eyes to the infinite possibilities and goodness of people and circumstances. And that is something that is sorely missing in the world today. Imagine what the world would be if everyone realized that everything they need to make a difference was right there within themselves! After reading this book, you'll have the tools to change your world into an extraordinary one. Best of all, you'll be able to start this incredible journey the moment you pick up this book.

Superb exploration of Air Traffic automation and risk.
This important follow-on to "Flight to the Future" covers the automation initiatives in ATC modernization. The various programs in development are detailed from the human-centered automation viewpoint, including assessments of the potential risk involved in implementing them. (Refinements in the various programs since the report was published make some of this detail dated, but the underlying automation approach has remained consistent.)

This report is critical because it leads one to ask human factors questions beyond color scheme and font size and display lay-out: namely, what is the purpose of this function in the system, and what does the system gain *and lose* if that function is automated? That is, is automating this function going to provide enough benefit to system safety and performance to off-set the risks thereof?

Not content to merely ask the questions, the NRC panel also presents over a dozen pages of solid recommendations for mitigating the risk of automating air traffic control functions, emphasizing the human-centered automation approach.

Great resource, as are they all from the NRC

PRAISE IS WHERE GOD LIVES!--Learn why & how
On a whim, I decided I would query Amazon for _The Hallelujah Factor_. My hardcover copy of this book, given to me by my late in-laws many years ago (before my husband and I were married), lives in the magazine rack at my bedside along with my Bible, journals, study guides, and current reading materials. I am thrilled to see that it is back in print! I had been recommending it to people in my journaling and "life-support" classes, and they'd been having a little trouble finding the out-of-print edition. I can't wait to get my new copy and start recommending it to students (along with my two other favorites, _As A Man Thinketh_ and _How to Discover Your Mission In Life_.) Let me explain my enthusiasm for the book. The author of this book spoke at Southcliff Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas, to my in-laws' congregation. They bought copies of the book for each of their children (and me!) I'd often wondered in the past why PRAISE would be significant at all to GOD, or why it would be important or noticed at all when we praise Him; after all, He must be above needing validation or whatever it is that we as humans recieve when we are praised, and I did not know where to look in Scripture to find out what kind of benefits would accrue when you joined the angels and the Heavenly host in praising the Lord God of Hosts . . . after reading this book, I came to understand that PRAISE is where God lives, and that if you join into the praise, it is NOT to "feed his ego" or "build him up" or anything like that, but what it WILL do is draw you closer in to God and where He is to more fully experience His holiness and grace. I cannot explain it as I should, so I refer you to this book!

The various ways in which we might address God during praise are also discussed, as for example "Jehovah-Jireh," the Great Physician, and "Jehovah-Shammah," God with us. While praying during serious illnesses, I've experienced great comfort after praising in the methods explained in this book. (I would describe it as "an angel sitting over my shoulder.") Well, even if you don't come to subscribe to our beliefs about praise, you will have gained insight and knowledge by reading this book. If I were Jane Austen, here I would sign off with, "God bless you, gentle readers!" --Shalanna Collins (author of _Dulcinea_, a somewhat "Harry Potter-esque" fantasy novel coming in March 2001)

This is a great text on Praise and Worship.
This is written as a basic text on Praise and Worship with activities at the end of each chapter to let the reader practice the Praise topic. This book changed my life and the study of it has lead me to a greater relationship with God.

Human body odor : etiology, treatment, and related factors
Published in Unknown Binding by Springer-Verlag (1992)
Author: Masumi Inaba
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

Viva La France!
Herein, the steward of the eponymous Inaba Clinic in Tokyo, Japan holds forth on a sensitive topic with authority and dignity. Inaba is known primarily for 1996's seminal "Androgenetic Alopecia: Modern Concepts of Pathogenesis," but truer disciples consider this to be his finest work (although a 1987 article from the Yonsei Medical Journal entitled "Lipid Composition of Ear Wax in Hircismus" has its partisans). Etiology and treatment are given roughly equal coverage in this admirably thorough volume. A convenient guide to trauma centers equipped to deal with acute cases is also included. Intriguingly, this book reveals that the clichéd sneer about the French being particularly afflicted has been borne out by decades of carefully documented research. I can attest to this personally, as Mrs. Higgensworth's longtime beau prior to her becoming my betrothed hailed from that malodorous land, and the few times that I met him I almost fainted from his "eau de lui-même."

Very Helpful
Someone had to write the history of this subject--a problem that has plagued me ever since the days of my childhood, which were mostly very lonely ones--lonely days caused by my persistent body odor. I least I THINK that was why none of the children in my school would talk to me . . .

I couldn't live without it.
As a licensed Interior Designer I refer to this book frequently. To determine the space required for any activity from opening a file drawer to dining, watching a movie or simply removing an object from a shelf this book gives it to you straight with no fluff. It contains simple but indispensible scientific data for the 95th percentile and beyond. Whether you are a student or a professional, in Interior Design, Architecture or Industrial Design I highly recommend Human Dimension and Interior Space.

This book serves as a linchpin in designing any interior!
Human Dimension & Interior Space provides information about interior space requirements and human dimensions that are indispensable to the beginning design student or the practicing professional. Its drawings and charts are clear, easy to understand and even easier to apply. It should be part of every design professional's library or student's required reading list. It is also refreshing to note that this book has integrated barrier free design/accessibility issues into each space type that is covered, and not made it a separate issue.

A Book All Commercial Pilots Must Read & Own..
A father and daughter team! It is rare enough to have a flying father and a flying daughter in the real world, but sharing the same passion so intensely and to write a book together on an all-encompassing aviation Bible, (yes, this book is a Bible for aviators!) is truly unprecedented!

When I said this book covers virtually all topics concerning flight operations, I meant just that. The most important thing is; this book is highly readable, rich in reference materials and data and yet "gripping" to read! A rare gem in terms of human factor topics. I have read other CRM or human factors books by other more renowned and authoritative people but none as good as the Orladys, probably with the exception of Tony Kern, who is also just as good a writer on aviation safety.

Okay, the book covers the brief history of air transport, the industry and its safety record,, a brief history of human factor and its development in aviation,, the physical environment and the physiology of flight, as well as those magnificent flying machines and their internal environment - sort of like a trip down to aviation memory lane.

It also discussed the social environment, basic communication, documentation - including checklists and information management. It went on to discuss on the Man's limitations, human errors, and information processing. Nothing is left unturned, the Orladys went on to talk about workload, automation, situation awareness and operating in today's environment. Of course, they did not miss out on crew resource management and the team approach.

Fatigue and stress were covered in depth, plus fitness to fly, even selection and training of pilots! Most interestingly is the coverage on the challenging roles of the flight attendants, this shift in focus of our cabin colleagues was most insightful.

I loved the chapter on non-punitive incident reporting.. the CHIRP and ASRS were great success stories in UK and USA respectively, I fervently hope that SIA will follow suit in our pursuit of excellence in aviation flight safety.

Another eye-opener chapter is "some ramifications of accident analysis", this is the first time I heard of the "Stop Rule" phenomenon in flight safety investigation - find it out yourself what it means.

In the last few chapters, the Orladys talked about the worldwide safety challenge in the near future, the current safety problems and the future of air transport too.

This is not a book to be missed by any pilot who wish to enrich himself. In fact, I recommend that every single commercial pilot should own a copy for reference purposes as well.
