Their are many FACTORS that make this an outstanding read
Nancy's wealth of knowledge and experience is showcased brilliantly in her book, "The Einstein Factor" as she skillfully weaves it throughout the lives of her characters. In a smooth, easy to read style, she wraps intrigue upon intrigue carrying the reader effortlessly along the mysterious path she has contrived for them. The protagonist is a fully fleshed out, three dimensional character that you feel drawn to immediately and eventually to her friends as well. All in all "The Einstein Factor" is a compelling novel that is a must read for mystery and science fiction lovers alike.

The Einstein Factor-Fascinating
The Einstein Factor was griping. I was fascinated with the depth of the characters. The plot kept me intrigued and unable to put the book down until the end. The warmth and compassion shown by Sara for her brother and friends was touching. It is easy to put yourself in the role of Liz and Ray as struggling students making the decision to use the Einstein Factor. This book was so real and believable. What will happen next? Hopefully there will be a sequel. The author did an excellent job.

What a Story!
I am no science fiction reader, and the very idea of "injecting genius" into a fetus sounds science-fictiony (is that a word?), but also unnerving -- a great plot. Also, unlike some sc-fi books, this one is intelligent, and the people and personalities count. So I read it, and could not put it down, to the end. Its length is conducive to a one day or one weekend read, that will carry you through to the end. This is an E-book, but don't let that stop you from buying it. It's very clean, well thought out, and doesn't waste any time getting you into the action -- from the very first page. The author is gifted, and could have benefitted from less use of passive voice, more active, but the plot is so rich, the characters so well-drawn, I got past that to give it that 5th star. Nice job, Ms. Falconer.

Great book on important topic
Great book because:

1) He's an M.D. that also teaches at a university hospital.
2) No hocus-pocus ancient remedies, or magic bullets.
3) Covers the results from newer longitudinal studies.
4) Discusses the new findings on causes of heart disease.
5) Discusses which foods are good/bad for you.
6) Develops a scoring system for foods that is easy to follow.
7) Points out that it is really a multi-faceted problem.
8) Describes the medical tests to get.

What I didn't like:

1) He says I have to exercise more.
2) He says I have to lose more weight.

I can now understand that: all food is bad, but without it you die; some foods are better than others; food is not the only part of this problem.

Overall, this is a great book that summarizes current understanding of heart disease. Perhaps most important is his point on the multi-faceted nature of heart disease. There are some really interesting charts and diagrams showing how its just not X (just not fat, just not cholesterol).

Great book. I highly recommend it.

Tailored for those with heart attack risk factors
Here's a plan for a diet which is tailored for those with heart attack risk factors, from hypertension and high cholesterol to diabetes. The bulk of Every Heart Attack Is Preventable consists of ratings of foods which are proven to help heart strength: tables chart food scores and draw important links between these scores and heart health.

THIS BOOK WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE
I only wish I had seen this book before suffering a heart attack at 42. In seeking to change my life, I read six decent books on overcoming heart attacks before finding this one. Friends, this book has more great information than the six previous books I read combined. Mogadam should get an award for writing it. Every single page has great information. It even addressed one area -- lipoprotein A -- that caused my heart attack that very, very few others even note. Do yourself or a loved one a favor, buy this book now and make the changes that will save your life. It's easy to read, take notes and implement.

It Works
I was given this book by my wife after struggling (unsuccessfully) with a sudden and dangerous rise in my bp. I went from a lifetime of normal readings to stage 4 hypertension (190/160) at age 39. Over the course of the next nine months, I was on a variety of anti-hypertensives -- three different bp meds simultaneously -- at high doses with only limited success and terrible side effects. I read this book and a month or so later, decided to give Dr. Moore's theory a try. I followed the K factor diet for three months and also quit drinking caffeine. My bp's plunged within weeks and after a few months, I was off all but one med and that was reduced to a very low dose. My doctors -- including a nephrologist -- were stunned by the results. I can't recommend it enough.

A great book for people suffering hypertension
I was rushed to a hospital with a blood pressure of 175/110 at the age of 37 yrs. I was given a calcium channel blocker pill which reduced my BP to 140/90. Unfortunately it produces a side effect which I cannot stand. I was then given ace inhibitor (Hyzaar) which brought my BP to 120/70 but unfortunately produces a dizziness which was so intolerable I could hardly drive my car. Lastly the medication was changed to cozaar another ace inhibitor which produces a side effects of dizziness which was more tolerable.Anyway I tried to find a natural solution for my hypertension and found out that this book gives all the answer which was needed to reverse it. After four weeks of high K factor diet ( serum poassium at 4.9 ) I was able to half my BP pills at a BP of 110/75 and sometimes to 105/65. My aim now is to stopped my BP pills intake when it is safe to do so.

Avoid the pills- do it naturally
This book details ways for a person with hypertension to lower their blood pressure using natural methods. Dr. Moore is an M.D. and PhD who has done years of research in this area. He concludes that a low level of potassium (K) is a major casue of hypertension. He gives dietary instructions on how to raise your potassium, and lower your sodium. The book is well documented and is very readable. It is an encouraging book for those who have hypertension, but want to try a treatment more natural than using prescription medications. I recommend it to my patients. Russell Tweet M.D.

An inspirational story for any medical student or resident
The story of William Castle and his discovery of the cause of pernicious anemia. The author captures the character and work ethic of this esteemed physican and educator. It describes the atmosphere of academic excellence at the Boston City Hospital. The author clearly understands that the virtues of the clinician investigator are timeless.

A story about when medicine was focused on the patient.
The story of William Bosworth Castle is a story of medical pioneers - men and women who were committed to helping patients at any costs - often at the price of their own personal resources. It's a story of a man - and his colleagues - for who monetary reward was a non-existent consideration - and who were willing to sacrifice even their own health to make medical progress. It's about a time when Physicians were willing to work long hours in primitive conditions - to produce an ethic and academic tradition that resulted in a program that trained a cadre of physicians who had a lasting effect on academic medicine that persists to the present day.

William Castle represents the type of "role model" who's influence far transcends his time and place. I had the honor of training in Castle's tradition. I'm grateful for that.

Extraordinary tale of what real doctoring is about
In this era when the TV series ER has come to symbolize what medicine is, this extraordinary story of the life and scientific pursuit of one clinician is not just enthralling and inspiring, but is also a reminder that medicine is so much more than the sort of drama celebrated on TV. There is a quieter drama, that of a life lived in pursuit of a goal and following certain beliefs. The book HOUSE OF GOD was written as a satire, but it is amazing how many medical students have come to see it as gospel, taken it seriously (check out the readers' comments for that book and you will see what I mean). INTRINSIC FACTORS is really the book that medical students, and preferably pre-med students should read to grasp the romance and passion of medicine, a love affair that is greater than HMOs and financial pressures and goverment regulations. Karnad tells this story beautifully.

The Luck Factor

I bought each of my three children a copy of this book!
I saw Max Gunther on a late night talk show when he was prmoting the book. his informal, casual discussion highlights from his research really impressed me. I purchased the book a few days later. The kind of information in this book is whatever person in their late 20s should know. what he wrote about 25 years ago still stands today. Great stuff!

Anyone interested in probability should read this book
Intuition tells us (as does this book) that all things are not equal when it comes to the way that seemingly random occurences affect individuals. Some people are just luckier than others in terms of how these events appear and play out in their favor. Gunther takes an open-minded approach to the question of luck, and interviews unquestionably lucky and unlucky individuals to see what the common factors are. His analysis includes the expected (lucky people have more opportunities by virtue of their personalities), but he isn't afraid to talk about findings that don't fall nicely into a causal, classical model. Why should a person's state of mind matter in determining their luck, above and beyond how it changes their outward behavior? This book doesn't present the whole answer to that question, but it does lay a good foundation for giving the matter some serious thought.

Good introduction to an elusive element
Believe me. This is one book anybody who feels fate has give them a hard kick must have. This book will tell you why your less 'talented' friend did better than one of your apparently more talented ones. I'd read a lot of self-help books of all kind before I read this but this one ranks right there with Think and Grow Rich and How to win Friends and Influence People. It tells you exactly what luck is and how you can make it work for you. It is obvious that the author did extensive research before writing this. A unique thing in this book is the study of comparative luck-beliefs like probability. This book may not turnaround somebody's luck at once, but will be a great help in understanding luck and improving once chances in life. As a bonus, it is factually entertaining!

A home is more than a place to eat, sleep, and do the laundry: it can be a "calm haven in a hectic world," according to author Julia Barnard, "a state of being" that can be tailored to appeal to all five senses. Because we human beings experience the world around us through our senses, New Decorator devotes whole chapters to strategies for using space, light, color, surfaces, air, sound, and home comforts to create a home that's both sensuous and practical:
Remember that light and air are necessary for your well-being, and that a house must breathe to be healthy. Use color to set the tone of a room.... Choose natural and sustainable materials, such as bamboo and jute, and appreciate their surface texture and variation of color. Acknowledge that silence is sometimes golden, and buy appliances that have the quietest sound.
More than 500 color photos of such sensuous rooms show that this novel, commonsense approach to interior decorating can be realized with thoughtful decorating decisions. The beginning decorator will appreciate sections on such basics as combining primary and secondary colors, using light to create atmosphere and mood, and working with patterns. Do-it-yourself projects include a double-sided screen, rolled beeswax and pressed-flower candles, homegrown milk paint, and a leaf-printed wall, all of which give designers the chance to "enter into the give and take of homemaking." --Stefanie Durbin

Home Bliss
"A home is an extension of ourselves, expressing our interests and beliefs even when we aren't there."

If you love your home, you already know that a home plays a central role in you life. Each home reflects our individual tastes and can be a retreat from the stresses of our modern lifestyle.

This book contains over 500 color photographs to give you inspiring original ideas for every room in your home. There are sections on Space, Light, Color, Surfaces, Air and Sound to demonstrate the principles of successful interior design.

"While natural light is vital for life,
shade and shadows bring repose." pg. 50

Space - How do you think about space? Are you considering a minimalist lifestyle or do you want to order your clutter?

Light - Illuminate a room, use natural lighting or put up curtains to block light.

Color - The decorator's color wheel, explanation of color, using milk paint, an expression of yourself in earth tones.

Surfaces - Flooring, rugs, walls, tables & chairs, visual texture, patterns and stencils.

Air - Circulation, windows, plants & flowers, humidity, moisture.

Sound - Noise & echo, muffling noise, decorative textile hangings, pleasant sounds, wind chimes.

20 Projects are included throughout the book. You might enjoy making a sunflower stenciled cloth, a double-sided screen, collectable shadow boxes, rolled beeswax candles, curtains, beautiful pressed flower candles, lampshades, cushions or an intoxicating rosemary wood polish. I imagine you could also infuse lavender. How about clove and honey soap you could give as gifts?

I love the "Glass Bead Door Curtain." Totally quaint! And then there is a section on entertaining where they use small rocks hanging on strings as table weights to keep the table cloth from flying away in the breeze.

Useful sections include:

Kitchen cupboard restoration
Painting techniques
Restoring garden furniture
A Resources Section
Easy-to-use Index

A book to read when you want to dream!

Not Just for Decorators!
I found this book amazing because it helps you to organize ideas for any type of design. It allows you to use different elements like color, space, and light in a way that you can combine them with things that you may already have. After applying some of the ideas in my own home I noticed people would come in and feel different, I felt like I was somewhere else. I recommend this book to anyone who would like to little by little begin to redecorate or likes a change every now and then.

Brilliant evocation of an ideal way to live
I just love this book. The evocative messages are an inspiration. Don't just look at the pictures - read this book!

Absolutely essential book for anybody interested in stresses in notched bodies; structural analysts who like to use the 'back of the envelope', finite element analysts, fracture mechanicists; designers in aerospace, rail, heavy machinery, light machinery, medical devices, almost anything you can name. Book has been updated from the original; even if you have the original edition, this 2nd edition is well worth having for your engineering reference library.

AN EXCELLENT BOOK
This is an excellent book. I found the book to be extremely informative and thoghtfully written. I recommend this book for anyone that is interested in applications of stress and strain analysis.

Peterson's Stress Concentration Factors, 2nd Edition
The definitive book of stress concentration factors...updated from Peterson's original edition. This is the ultimate source for aerospace engineers dealing with design and analysis. Other engineering disciplines should find it equally useful. The book is more compact, yet thicker than the original but the the figures are very clear and readable. Explanations appear much the same.

succinct and very readable
I enjoyed this book because it was very readable with many illustrations covering many topics that discuss how to prevent heart disease. I especially liked the section devoted to nontraditional risk factors.

Concise summary of ways to prevent heart disease
This book is very easy to read and contains a lot of information about heart disease and how to prevent it. There are a great deal of pictures and figures. I found this book to be one of the best on the subject. As a dietitian, I found it helped me understand some of the reasons heart disease is so common in the world.

excellent summary, well illustrated and up to date
