The book presents a new way of doing architecture and presents an historical view of architecture like a social and cultural process.

Leege and Kellstedt assemble the top scholars in the subfield of religion and politics to study virtually every aspect of the relationship between the two. This anthology adresses questions that have previously been neglected in political research such as: what role does Christian conservatism play in determing political attitudes, vote choice, and campaign strategies. Moving beyond the traditional Catholic/Protestant/Jewish breakdown of religious belief structures, these authors compare and contrast religious cleavages based on denominational, doctrinal, and self assesments. Firmly embedding the sociological, personal and institutional forces of religion within the history of American politics is a long overdue task which these authors do exceptionally well. The only potential downfall of the book is that it is written in a highly academic language which may be inaccesable to anyone with simply a personal curiosity in the role religion plays in politics.

Yang does a very good job in not only pulling together subject matter for the scholar interested in the subject, but leaves it clear and concise for the layperson as well.

Infancy, childhood, adolescence and adulthood are all given some attention here. Topics taken up for analysis include depression, divorce, maternal stress, and eating disorders. It's a diverse collection of articles all sharing one question: when two people face the same circumstances, why does this one develop psychopathology and this one not?

Important reading. A central book for those seriously interested in the development of psychopathology.

No, not the title of the next Robert Ludlom bestseller, but about the first two years of the superhorse Secretariat's stud career (1974 and 1975). Also includes a photo of Secretariat doing his new job. A fascinating look at the business of breeding racehorses that focuses on the horses a good bit of the time. I only read this book once at a library I worked at nearly ten years ago and still recall it vividly. Good luck finding it--before the advent of the Internet, this was one of the most obscure books you could get

The book is a must for those wanting to consider proven and efficient alterntives to the 'get tough approach', but don't fear it isn't the soft social worker approach either. It's based on the theory of Developemental Crime Prevention and looks at a combination of sanctions, interventions and community actions which can reduce juvenile and later adult offending.

I am practicing CPA whose clientele is primarily small business. I read the books many years ago and have always considered to be one the best books around for preparing people for what they need to think about before considering going into business.

So That His Death Will Not Have Been In Vain is a serious book about a mother (the author) and her son who had serious hopes of becoming a naval officer, but he callasped while in basic training, and died several days later. What is most interesting about this book is that he was a carrier of the sickle cell trait, but was not aware of its impact. And what made it most interesting was that the navy wasn't aware of the effect being a carrier could have on one's physical body. Being aware could have saved the life of this promising young man. Many African Americans and decendants from the Mediterranian or apt to have the sickle cell disease or be carriers. This book is a lesson for parents and a lesson for the military. Why? because it serves as an awareness tool for those who are not familiar. For example, even being a carrier has its consequencies,i.e., heat factors as it relates to over heating in the sun while doing strenuous exercise, etc. If you have the trait in your family or know of family members who are carriers--this is an important book to read. It provides you with the basis of the Sickle Cell trait and what you should be aware that could mean the difference in life or death. The book is serious and provides you with serious information. The author has indeed done some serious research in helping us to understand the carrier of the sickle cell trait, and learning more about the death of her son.

Barbara Byrne manages to make a very complicated topic seem manageable and understandable. This book is ideal for people familiar with the basics of psychology statistics, but relatively new at structural equation modeling. My only complaints are that the index is a bit sparse, so I found myself thumbing through the book frequently; and sometimes the details of how to apply the concepts directly to EQS commands were left a bit unclear. However, overall this was an excellent starter book for structural equation newbies!
