the future of economic design
This book is one of only a few books that I own that I have been able to use as both a reference book and an enjoyable reading book (enjoyable to a structural engineer). It had many great examples on different ways to use composite design that I had not learned about in school. It also did this in a way that was useful at work. I have impemented many of the design principles from this book into my designs.

I would recommend this book to any structural, civil, or architectural engineer with a basic understanding of composite design.

Excellent reference for international relocations!
Book is reference to units of measure. Most conversion rates (i. e. metric to imperial) cover only 2-4,000 terms. This book has 15,000! If you engage in international business this is VERY handy. When you rent an apartment in Japan, they measure in the number of tatami mats for each room, not square meters! When you buy gold in Asia they measure in Teals (slightly over an ounce). The next edition hopefully will include an index by country . . . what specific measures should you expect?

Historical and Military Studies
If the choice were to grade this book solely on the military content it would receive 3 stars but the inclusion of the surrounding historical commentary gave it a boost. This is NOT a book about alternate endings or a discussion of how the losing side could have won the battle.

It is instead a study of twenty battles and how they were won, the individual, collective, tactical and morale-boosting efforts required for such a win. One may question individual inclusions or exclusions but the battles were selected not necessarily for their geopolitical importance but to illustrate the author's point. Namely that battles, particularly those in the past, were won by brilliant thinkers, unexpected events, inspired generals and dedicated fighters.

It is hard to quarrel with his conclusions - even the startling one that the battle of Warsaw in 1920 was perhaps the one that affected European civilization more than any other. (A win by the bolsheviks would have condemned Eastern Europe, Germany and maybe part of Western Europed to the economic, political and cultural horror that engulfed the USSR.)

The format is similar in all cases: A brief forward setting the battle within a proper context, an introduction to the chief players, a description of what happened and then a one paragraph conclusion. Very readable.

I think this book is very interesting and educational.
This book is very good, one of the best I've read. It is very interesting and he describes each character and setting with extremely terrific details. This book teaches a lot in deep detail such as:1]pharmaceutical history, description, etc. 2]genetics,DNA 3]patenting,and much more. I recommend this book to people who enjoy edge-of-the-seat mysteries, peoples feelings, or learning. The reason I gave an 8 is because some parts are hard to understand, also the end sort of keeps you hanging. But this book is great. Get it.

Understanding the stars
This book is all about the stars, where they came from, how they got there, and how long they'll be there plus the methods scientists (astronomers) figured these things out. For anyone with a science-geared brain, this book is great. I'm currently taking physics at my high school, this book really helped me to understand the concepts and formulas in a "behind the scenes" way. The language used by the author is occasionally hard to understand but it's a book you have to read slowly in order to understand it all. The concepts that involve things from later discussed topics have references to the chapter they can be found in. It's a really in-depth and well-written book for anyone with an interest in astronomy or science in general. Some of the concepts discussed are the age of stars which can be determined according to their surface temperature and luminosity, the doppler effect which explains the motion of stars and planets due to the fact that wavelengths shorten when an observer or source moves toward the other and lengthen in the opposite way, the kind of star or star group and what the characteristics of each are, and the nature of gravity in space according to several astronomers and scientists like Newton, Einstein, Galileo, etc. The book also includes many pictures and diagrams to help the average reader understand the specific topics of each chapter.

Interesting precursor to "Natural Capitalism"
Many of the anecdotes related in this book appear again in "Natural Capitalism", a more recent work by Lovins et al. There are enough differences, however, to merit an inspection. The authors have a real knack for research. You'll probably be surprised by some of the facts they lay before you, e.g. 50-100 kg of nitrates fall out of the sky per hectare in central Europe.

Finding and Keeping Clients : Critical Success Factors for Building Your Consulting Practice

I keep coming back to find ideas, lists, and inspriation
I read this book a while back, and I'm amazed at the number of times I return to it to find a list, get an idea, reinspire myself. The book offers a compilation of the author's insights on building a practice, and there are tons of good hints. One of my favorite sections is "structuring the sales presentation," which suggested timing, what questions to prepare to answer, and solid sales ideas. Lukaszewski's philosphy is clear - straightforward, no-nonsense marketing and selling, and that's how the book is written too. It quickly became a "go to" reference for my practice.
