Future of Health and Wellness
"Transfer Factor" is a well-written synopsis of this natural immune booster derived from the collostrum of cows. An interesting review of several hundred of the thousands of research articles written in the medical literature on this fascinating protein now available in an oral and well tolerated form. Dr. Hennen does an excellent job in introducing this protein to the lay public, a public who will be clammoring for this immune booster over the next months and years. Particularly as America and the rest of the world tries to discover what the natural world has to offer to keep us healthier and well and reduce the overuse of antibiotics and other potentially toxic drugs. Relates studies and clinical reports about TF use in infectious disease, malignancy, chronic immune deficiency, allergy, and much more. I strongly encourage all to read this book and support Dr. Hennen's efforts to educate the world about this natural immune booster. I commend Dr. Hennen for his well-written effort!

Help your cancer recovery odds by 10-20%
I wanted to attack my cancer from all angles. This book is excellent in helping me feel my cancer was not my fault and encouraged me to express and identify my emotions and to develop a new coping style. She explains how your immune system works, and how NOT shutting yourself down emotionally, and expressing your needs, anger, etc., can actually boost your immune system to fight cancer. When you shut your negative emotions down as your coping style, you also shut down your immune system to fight cancer. She doesn't claim that changing your coping style will cure cancer, but she says it could be 10-20% of "your pie", and that extra 10-20% could make the difference if you only have a 50/50 chance of survival! (Amazon found me a copy even though it is out-of-print!)

The Ulysses factor: the exploring instinct in man

Insightful view of the basic drive people have to explore.
Read this in college ('76) as an accident. Have remembered it ever since as an insightful look into what motivates people to move beyond comfort and to seek what is unknown. As Tennyson wrote, "to seek, to find and not to yield," or something to that effect. If you've thought you were silly for wanting to head off on a trip (hitchhiking or canoe), relax. It's a basic side of our nature. Go with it.

Must be read to even begin to see the quality of this book
This is a book that is hard to describe because of its uniqueness. It is a scientific study of altrustic love.
It is pan-religious, not centering on Christian nor Eastern religious views. Sorokin covers the desert Church fathers to Patanjali as well as modern examples. Sorokin was perhaps one of the first to warn about the dangers of what he calls "Tribal Egotism" and has a chapter here called "From Tribal Egotism to Universal Altruism." He mentions steps that would eliminate intergroup warfare. A classic book in sociology that I hope more people will somehow find entering their life because it successfully counters the shadow of self-centeredness found to be implicit in much academic psychoanalytic theory as well as the influence of Nietzsche on recent philosophy. In those books,
what is seen as normal and healthy is what allows the "will to power" to come forth in the human psyche. In Sorokin's work, love is seen, and even proven to be, as the major criteria of true mental health.

Engineers & Managers Guide to Human Factors
This new book is a must for engineers and managers who want to establish a reputation for delivering products that humans can use effectively. It provides an orientation to the field of human factors that is intended for readers that have little or no prior experience in the application of human engineering principles to product design. The book establishes the value of human factors through the use of many interesting examples and compelling arguments drawn from a variety of product applications ranging from household appliances to sophisticated aerospace systems. It also provides an introduction to some of the basic principles of design for useability, including physical ergonomics and human sensory, perceptual and cognitive processes. It introduces the reader to the role of human factors in engineering of complex systems and defines structured processes for effective integration of human factors design criteria into products from the initial definition of requiredments through the testing, deployment and support of fielded systems. While the book will not enable readers to serve as qualified human factors practitioners, they will gain an appreciation of the positive impact of human factors on product performance as well as a working knowledge of basic principles and terminology. This book will serve as a valuable addition to a well-rounded curriculum of study for system engineering generalists and engineering managers interested in broadening the scope of their technical competencies.

can't thank her enough
This book was written by Doctor Pashkow and Charlotte Libov who is a journalist who underwent open heart surgery. I happened upon this book by accident while I was mentally preparing for open heart surgery myself. Ms. Libov provided some of the best advice I'd found. She explains in great depth many heart conditions and provides practical tips as well. This book greatly allayed my fears and answered a lot of questions. I read it from cover to cover twice and thanked my lucky stars that I'd found it. This is "must" reading for anyone facing this operation and his/her family.

A ho-hum Spider-Man book...
I'm going back to read all the Marvel books (I have just recently completed my collection), and will post reviews on all of them for people who still care.
Fist up is Spider-Man: Venom Factor by Diane Duane. This is not a good book to start off on, but oh well. This book is bland and, worst of all, boring to boot. The action scenes are poorly done and not at all exciting, and the "character development" scenes between Peter and Mary-Jane consist of talking, eating, and having sex....not necessarily in that order. Yes, we know they are a married couple who are attracted to each other, but we don't need their ... ...high school-ish innuendos every time they speak to each other. There are better books for you to read then this one. AND this is just the first in a LOOSELY tied together trilogy that doesn't get much better from here...sigh.

Classic Spidey..... well almost
By the time you get to this review you'll more than likely have read others on this book alredy. You may have noticest some complain the action sequences a to bland, and ya, OK, I have read better firght sences, but I have read alot wrost as well. Over all it is a good book with a strong story line (strongest in the trilogy in my opinion). True the action could have been better, and true Peter and Mary Jane could have had more intelligent conversations.

My only real complaint is that Duane toned down Spider-Man's powers (and Venom's powers to for that matter) a little to much. In the comics Spidey can lift up to 10 tons ( about enough to juggle a truck) and venom was about 3 times that striength. In this book Ol' Web-Head is still stronger than the normal man, but not by much. his speed and his reflexes take a toll as well.

The only other thing wrong with it is the lack of orgin on the Mystery Villian (for those of you who hve not read the book yet mystery villian is all the detail that I'll give so that I don't spoil it for you). It was my hope it would be addressed in the other two books, but was sadly, never mentioned again.

The intesting story was enough to keep the book afloat but thease few erorrs where enough to knock one star off the rating. Over all Spider-Man: The Venom Factor is a good book for any true Spider-Fan

A Venomous Web is Slung!
Author Diane Duane weaves a great story about everyone favorite web-slinger, Spiderman. It appears that a someone, some creature, is terrorizing and killing certain members of N.Y.C.'s homeless population . Plus, this someone has a tasty bite for food that is radioactive. The creature at first appears to be Spiderman's enemy Venom or is it? Could the creature be Hobglobin? An unlikely allegiance is formed to find the true killer.

Although I not familiar with the character of Venom and the plot as it appeared in the popular comic book Diane Duane fills in the gaps for the reader and continues the story and characterization(s) in grand style. While I know that casting on the Spiderman sequel has begun and rumors of the sequel's story lines use the traditional, original villains that many of us grew up with. I hope that down the road that movie producers will have the insight to do at least one film about Venom and Spidey.
