This is the best book for "style acting" I have seen. As an acting teacher, I know how hard it is to formulate an approach to acting which resonates with all actors. This book is a rich, detailed approach to many different styles -- from the Greeks to Postmodern -- incorporating movement, costuming, psychology, world view, euphemisms, religion, vocal patterns, statua, and much more. Indispensable!

Style for actors gives the readers and student a clear defintion of what it means to perform in a period, style or manner. Barton clearly defines everything you need to know in order to perform at the height of your ability. HIGHLY RECOMENDED. THIS BOOK RULES.

I work as an adjunct at the University of Central Florida teaching a required course for students who will be entering the teaching profession. The text I use is "Teachers Discovering Computers".

The book's focus is on Computer, Information and Integration literacy. Each area is thoroughly covered in content detail, enhanced by photos and diagrams and supported with a wealth of unline material from the Cashman site. Every chapter has a review section, sites to go to on the web for additional information, and tips for teachers on integrating what they have learned. I would suggest anyone in or about to enter education, purchase this text so they too might make the most of technology in the classroom.

A freeing work from a brilliant actor/scholar.

In this book Dario Fo articulates the relationship between actor and audience in a way only someone who has accepted the physical and mental demands of the acting craft can do. Fo demonstrates he is one part actor, one part scholar, and one part inspired artist. Each page illustrates the line between how an actor acts and their audience cannot be separated from themselves, their society, or from the history of the craft. If nothing else, Fo's joy in performance helps explain why actors remain central to entertainment and to society.

Tracks, tracks everywhere but who are the animals who make?
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.

This was an excellent book! The illustrations are bright and beautiful coupled with a magnificant story. Each set of footprints are shown in their natural environment and they are accompanied by a full page of clues that start hard and get easier before you are shown the animal that the clues are about. Here is an example. "I need to run fast because many animals hunt my kind. I will zig-zag to make it hard to catch me, then dash into the bushes to escape". Then there are more clues until finally the last clue is "My white, puffy tail is another clue to who I am." Of course by reading the clues you start to figure out by this time that you are talking about a Rabbit. This book really helped me to understand more about the eco-system I am surrounded by. When we go outside I am more observant and can even share show some of the tracks I learned to my sisters, Merlyn and Shirley. Be sure to get this book!

This is a fabulous book for any F>L>W> collecter. It has many black and white photos which add a nostalgic feel to the book. This is the first book of many I own about Wright to show the beautiful Gertrude and Rose Pauson House. It burned to the ground. I only wish he'd put more in the book, since he did a story for a magazine about the home. This is a Must Have!!!

I don't know how many times I have come across a problem or a question that a colleague or I have, but are not able to recall which book the material was covered in. That problem is solved with this collection of books bound on CD. Every single one of the books on this CD are written so well and are so easy to access that if you are looking for anything regarding XML this book is a must have.

My only gripes about the series are that only one of the books encompasses the general ideas of XML. Each book, other than nutshell, has its own detail-oriented way of discussing the topic at hand. You must really read each one (read skim) to really get exactly what you are looking for. Maybe I was looking for more reference type material, but the collection is still awesome.

My goodness, this one is a whammy!!

My goodness, this one is a whammy!! Aside from a hard copy 2nd edition of XML in a Nutshell, the CD contains the complete editions of the same book XML in a Nutshell (2nd Edition), XSLT, XML Schema, SAX2, Java & XML (2nd Edition), Java and XSLT, and Perl & XML. Each one of these books is deserving of its own review, but suffice it to say that having them all on CD just makes it more convenient to carry around. (I already have reviews on XML in a Nutshell and Java and XML.)

Developing a hernia by carrying the hard copy editions of these around is not my idea of a good time, so having the CD takes the cake. Of course, you'll need a laptop to actually be able to make use of the CD, and that'll leech battery power if you don't have a socket handy, so it's a toss-up either way. Still, the CD edition is searchable, so that you don't have to wiggle through the index of 7 books just to find that reference you needed.

All in all, a great deal!

This is a wonderful book! I bought the video from Borders, (39.99) and I LOVED it! Of course, to follow up, I had to but the book. There are two versions of this book, the telivision companion, which I prefer since it has better pictures, and more pictures in color. Stella Tillyard did a fabulous job of writing this book! This edition, has pictures from the video series, and contains the text telling the stories of the Lennox sisters, their passions, deceptions and timless love for one another. I can't get enough of this book! If you have not seen this video, buy it! I promise you will watch it again and again! The costumes are fabulous, and the actors LOOK like the real people! It is made by the BBC. I would buy both versions of the books as well. ajw@marinternet.com

This sharp dissection and exposé of the nuclear industry informs of dangers we will not hear about from our news media. It also provides environmentally sound, attainable solutions to the crisis. All Americans should read this to understand the dark side of nuclear power, in order to better protect our environment and future. I could not "put the book down" once I started.

An excellent short book on living an authentic life

What a gem this book is! One might doubt that a Buddhist nun could have anything useful to say about having too much junk in our lives. Yet the Venerable Yifa writes simply and elegantly on junk relationships, junk food, junk communication, junk emotions, etc. in this slim volume. The ideas she discusses are not new, particularly not to anyone familiar with Buddhism. However, one need not be familiar with Buddhism or even care about Buddhism in any way to benefit from what she has to say. While her ideas are not ground-breaking, her discussion of them is refreshing. This is a book that would be a welcome text for anyone looking to live a more authentic life, no matter what one's spiritual path is. I was impressed with her writing style, particularly her clarity and her conversational and friendly tone; it does not sound like she's preaching or being judgmental. This is a nice change from other texts about 'improving' one's life that start by telling the readers just how horrible and pathetic their lives are.

This book is a fast read, but it also seems the sort of book that I will be happy to read again, if I feel I need a little pep talk sometime in the future about ridding myself of more junk.
