I don't like romance novels. In fact I hate them. I was visiting my mom for a week and got bored and went looking for something
to read. She just had romance novels. Well the Tyler series book she had looked like the least noxious at least. I read it
and I was pleasantly surprised. I ended up buying and reading the whole series. Crossroads is a great read. It has the sappy
stuff that I don't like about romance novels in it but it also has a great plot. The series has great characters that you
get to know throughout the series and a rich town history. If you like romance novels, you have to read this one. If you don't
like romance novels (like me) it is still a very entertaining and enjoyable book. I recommend you read it.

Ok, this is not a beginners book. You NEED to know your algebra, trig relations, and calculus very well before you start on
this, in particular differentiaion of log, exponential, trigonometric functions, implicit differentiation, integration by
parts and substitution. Also good if your up on partial fractions, complex numbers and of course, your algebra. There is not
attempt at revision of these ocncepts in the book and no appendices containing it. You'll probably need a table of integrals
handy too when you work through it on the questions.
Ok, that aside, the book is purely about solving ODE's. It's contents include
program 1: First order Differential Equations
program 2: Second order differential equations
program 3: series 1
program 4: series 2
program 5: power series solutions of ODEs
program 6: Introdction to laplace trasnforms
program 7: Laplace transforms 2
program 8: laplace transforms 3
program 9: Z transforms
program 10: Matrix Algebra
program 11: Numerical solutions of ODEs
OK, the book has all the answers (not worked) to all of the questions. The questions are plentiful and take the form of review exercises (for each sub program), Test Exercises for each program and Further Exercises for each program. As far as I can tell there are no errors in the answers. I will warn you though: some of the further exercises are difficult! (we talking: multiple change of variable substitutions, partial fractions followed by integration by parts all to solve one ode!).
The teaching of the methods (algorithms if you prefer) is rquite strong with multiple fully worked examples for each concept and then questions for you to answer followed by fully worked solutions for those answers so you can see where you may have gone wrong. However strong this pedagogy is, there is little actual motivation for the work. There is no connection to applying ODE's to the real world. Also, some of the proofs are not what you would could rigorous, which will annoy the math students and please the engineers.
I suggest ODEs by Tennenbaum and Pollard (isbn: 0486649407) if you want motivation and just about every possible application of ODEs to real situations, in addition to this book. Do this book first perhaps to get the methods (algorithms) down and then go to Tennenbaum and Pollard for applying ODEs and filling in the gaps that this book leaves.
For somebody who just needs to know how, this is a good book: if you can't learn it from this book, then you probably aren't gonna get it without some help from a prof/ lecturer. if you want to know why, then it isn't so great (hence the loss ot stars).
So in conclusion, not bad. Does what it seeks to do extremely well, but what it seeks to do is the algorithms for solving ODEs, not applying ODEs and solving actual physical applications. Also, proofs lack some rigor and make a few assumptions.

Pedagogically, Mortenson's presentation is easy for a reader to follow. Accompanied by generous numbers of diagrams. He gives
understandable interpretations of how matrices are used to represent different types of transformations. The underlying geometrical
rationale is clear.
En route, the reader is gently introduced to group theory. For finite groups. A way to bind geometry and symmetry. Interestingly, the notation he uses for the symmetries and groups is Schonflies. In 1982, this was already being phased out by crystallographers, in favour of International notation. But maybe mathematicians prefer the older style.
There is also a quick discussion of tensors. Giving rise to contra and covariant vectors. And the metric tensor is introduced as a key idea. All this is a jumping off point for physicists studying General Relativity, though it is not actually mentioned by name.

You should understand that the material contained in this manual is as dated as the tractors it makes reference to. Though
it would be better to have a more comprehensive product for the uninitiated, I haven't yet found another publication that
covers these tractor's various systems and components better than represented here.

This is a very informative textbook. The only problem (for me) is that I was not aware it was a textbook. I purchased this
one b/c it had the answers - only I thought they would be in the back of the book - not right next to the problems. I have
another textbook by Carol Buck and the answers are in the back of the book - but it does not cover a lot - step by step for
ICD-9 (a lot of CPT, though) - Other than the answers being all through out the book and not in the back - I feel this will
be a great resource for me to use to study (in addition to my Buck textbook)for the CCS-P or any other certification exam
for coding.

book. But it wasn't, I got the book wihtin 3 days and that was good timing, because I have not started that class. I'm also
pleased with the condition of the book. It's in fine shape...practically looks untouched :)

trading pollution permits

Heal explains how one might put a value on an ecosystem, or parts thereof. It's a relatively recent approach that attempts
to avoid a tragedy of the commons with respect to the environment, be it local or even global.
A very useful idea described is the trading of pollution permits. The latter are rights to pollute. The premise is that instead of a government trying to mandate a minimum pollution level, it lets a free market determine this, by giving monetary value to permits. So that a company has incentive to develop or use innovative ways to minimise its pollution. Hence being able to sell any net gains to others. This also avoids the government trying to set a value on a permit.
The book suggests that carbon permits might be crucial in battling global warming.

this was an entertaining read. the book is essentially a collection of short stories, parodies of bible stories. the first
story i enjoyed the most. it was a retelling of adam and eve, told from eve's perspective. the tone she sets is comical in
a common sense kind of way.
there is a part, when she has her period, when she turns to a goddess and she says that the goddess has to hide in a cave so that god doesn't see her and other deities like her. i found this to very symbolic of how though christianity become the dominant religion, other, older forms of worship didn't completely disappear, the just went underground, so to speak, but still had an effect on the people.
one of my many impulse purchases, but it was a great read.

This was the penultimate novel for MacInnes. Almost all of her novels were about the struggle against either Nazism or Communism, but in this novel the focus has shifted more to international terrorism. Renwick is a former NATO intelligence officer who has started a new organization InterIntell. Like InterPol, they exist to be a clearinghouse for information, but instead of drugs they focus on terrorism.
It doesn't follow the normal conventions of a MacInnes novel. It is more procedural than most, because Renwick is a professional rather than her usual "inspired amateur". Also, Renwick is married, so the usual MacInnes romance plot is somewhat modified.
But it is a strong novel, with more than a few really surprising plot twists. (MacInnes usually doesn't rely on plot twists.) I recommend it, but do try to read the other two first.
