If you want a mystical book that's not a total fantasy, read this book. In the story, a dead grandmother talks to a woman in her dreams. When the woman, Maria Antonia, realizes that her grandmother is only reaching out to her because she has something important to tell her, she has to let go of her secular belief system and allow her grandmother's spirit to guide her on a physicial and spiritual journal. The book goes back and forth between the reality we all know and another reality where spirits talk and book characters become guides in the tangible world. The book goes back several generations and includes myths of Maria Antonia's heritage, a very unusual matriarchial line. Maria Antonia is a writer and her lover a painter, so the book also explores the life of artists. Just when you think you know what's going on, there's a twist in the plot that makes you stay up to read the book and be late for work in the morning.

With the Army moving towards less hardcopy and more internet based field manuals, FM 21-20 is getting harder to find. This is one manual that I need a hardcopy of (without depleting my printer of ink). It came fast, convenient, and in great shape!

The U.S. Army knows something about leadership. And this manual captures all the fundamental philosophy they teach Army officers. It's surprisingly well written too - with anecdotes and stories inserted throughout.

A unique approach that keep the pages turning!

A few matters on this one: I have the book in front of me [Sidebar: in ALL my reviews I have purchased the book or item being reviewed] and although it's hawked as a 'hardcover', it's a soft cover edition with those exact dimensions and ISBN indicated. But that's a minor issue because the book is a real page turner and that is due primarily to the author, John Suchet, along with equally honorable mention to Darren Henley. A refreshingly breezy yet informative style covering the highlights of Beethoven's life but in a manner that causes the reader to seek out even more information and hence further research. There is also an accompanying CD with very short snippets of Beethoven's more well known pieces.

I had to chuckle when I saw that picture of John Suchet on the back cover holding, you guessed it, a bust of Beethoven only because I immediately thought of that hilarious Muppet Show skit with Victor Borge, Fozzie-Bear and the "Bust of Beethoven" [voice and concept by Jerry Nelson]. Look that one up on the web and prepare for some mighty guffaws! Ah! And for those in the know, to have that "Bust of Beethoven" handy when I play Beethoven, you know, comes the errant clinker and the "Bust of Beethoven" pipes up 'defending' same to any clinker sniffing listener a la the famous, "No, that's the way I wrote it!"

So too, John Suchet, a well known TV journalist and newscaster in the UK, has written various articles and tomes about Beethoven [not to mention his Beethoven shows and talks] although his trilogy ["The Last Master" series and which I enjoyed immensely due to its 'happening now' formula!] uses a dramatic action format where the personalities come to life via the first person so to speak. That takes savvy of the historical personality to pull off not to mention bringing to life, as it were, the other personalities involved in Beethoven's life.

Finally, if you should by chance run into John Suchet [UK] and wish to immediately get his attention and concurrently get on his good side forthwith, say the following with dutiful conviction: "So, John, , what is your own view of the "Bridgetower" [!] Violin Sonata Op. 47?" John has [so they say] an excellent sense of humor so be prepared if you're ever at the piano across the waters in the UK and offer to play a Beethoven piece, John just might reflect over the many Beethoven pieces and then come out with something like, "Play ... "Julie's Sonata" [!] ... Ta, mate [or love]!"

You will have to read the book for the 'why' of those last two tongue-in-cheek remarks but you won't be disappointed! Also see the 'Classic FM' "friendly guide" book on Mozart! Another page turner by way of its unique format and approach to the subject. I like the page format too, easy on the read and the eyes while moving along smartly .. as they say.

I don't need another book on the golf swing. I wanted another copy of this book for the "Thoughts" it has. This is clearly the best "non-swing" golf book ever written and the illustrations are terrific. If you have ever played or are considering playing in golf tournaments, you need this book.

This was a used copy, from Alibris, and it is in better condition than many new books I've bought, I would highly recommend Alibris and Amazon for any used book.

This is an excellent publication if you are into FM DX-ing (long distance
reception of FM broadcast band signals). There are maps of all 50 states with the cities shown and the station call letters. The next section covers stations by states with power (ERP) output, and translators which re-broadcast one station to another area where the main frequency my not be received well. The next section cover station by frequency (from 88.1 to 107.9). Plus each listing showns call letters, power output, height of tower, city and state and those catchy phrases FM stations use, like
"KOOL 97.3" - "Soft Rock 97.1" - "Super Talk Mississippi" - "Power Country 92.1" - "Sunny 107.7" - "Talk Radio 102.3" ------you get the idea. Hope this helps. Excellent publication. I have used my copies for 3.5 years now with reasonable accuracy, but some stations have been deleted or moved. Hope you enjoy this soft bound book.

Freedom From Backaches

I can't believe this book is out of print. It is the best results-oriented book I've ever read on how to analyze your current back problem and, in addition, what exercises will improve your current condition. Written by two physicians with incredible experience and the right approach to the problem most people have with their backs. Basically the back's problem are related to the skeletal system and the muscles that support it. Without the proper strength and flexibility in the muscular system you will be exposing yourself to incredible life-long problems.

Why? The human skeleton in itself would fall down in a pile of bones without the strength of the muscular system. More importantly, the skeletal system could not function properly without a high degree of flexibilty in this system. So, when you let your muscular system get out of shape and you don't do anything (yoga, stretching or warming-up)to increase its flexibility every vertabre, joint and organ is headed for trouble once you put any stress on it or are involved in any type of accident.

Perhaps this is common sense now. But, when this book was first published it was a tremendous success. Now it should be taken and republished or a website should be developed around it. Millions of people are being taken for a ride by bad advice from physicians and chiropractors who just prescribe drugs, surgery or treatments when most of their problems could be solved through simple stretching and strengthening exercises.
