This is one book that tells me everything I need to know as an administrator. It's extremely informative and also includes many diagrams. Once again, this author has outdone himself!

Clear & Simple describe this book.

Easy to understand, clear & simple are exactly the correct words to describe this book. The numbering system of steps is easy. The very good illustrations are a plus.

Win98 SE

This book is simple to follow and to learn from, it was just like following the dots from a childs book! This book sits on my desk and is within arms reach for me to use if I need it. The netMeeting part was my main reason for buying this book, however it has proven to me, to be a much needed asset in my growing computer book collection.

An extremely helpful book to read. Highly recommended!

I am a relatively new users to Windows 98 after upgrading earlier in the year from Win 95.

I hadn't really discovered many of the new features that Win 98 had to offer and this book really showed me what could be done, and more importantly how it could be done.

The contents of the book in well stepped out and is written in plain English which makes it easier to read and enjoyable. I had a great time finding out so many new things about Win 98.

If you are interested in this book, one word of advice is that Amazon.com has got the wrong picture of the books cover. You are looking for a much more colorful cover.

Well done!

I bought three W98 Registry books and this one is hands down the best. Much better organized than Worem's book. The CD is good and the foldout registry map is *great* (wish it could be bigger tho??). The style is easygoing and so far every tip I've tried seems to work. Job well done.

making a dog perform new tricks

Barry Kauler is one of those unusual people who really knows his subject and is an enthusiast as well. He takes you on a tour of how, why and when it makes sense to use assembly language in the horribly proprietary, hidden world of Microsoft Windows. I was interested in seeing if I could get some display speed out of a dog of an operating system without losing the benefits of the windowed user interface. He did the job admirably.

Excellent step-by-step instructions on DOS in Win environs.

I was lucky to find this book! It goes through logical step-by-step activities (with disk) that makes DOS understandable and interesting. Lots of experiments, tests and reviews. The concept of teaching the user how to use DOS command line while working in Win95/98 is a welcome and sharp one. Thanks!

For (grand)parents too!

This is one book of a whole series, originally written in Dutch. A child clever enough to read can learn Windows all by itself, and enjoy it too. The same author has written a book on programming in Superlogo for kids, but unfortunately, this hasn't been translated (yet?). My 8-year old son was able to teach himself how to program, all by himself. Yes, it's that well written. Also very good for people who are scared of computers. I think it's easier and clearer than the dummies- books.

An Oldie but a Goodie

To get an old DOS Borland C program to compile and run under a Windows interface I bought the McMillan C & C++ Starter Kit with Borland C++ 4.52. If you are new to C++ graphics or Windows OWL, this book is a real gem and a good adjunct to these starter kits popping up in the stores.
