An Essential Simplified MFC Solution Reference
There are two MFC books real-world MFC programmers should keep as future references. VC++ MFC Extensions by Example by John Swanke is one of them. This is an essential MFC extension. Swanke presents powerful, yet surprisingly really simple fully implemented solutions to questions MFC programmers most often ask. For example, the author provides a solution to a folder selection dialog box. Swanke presents elegant solutions that are so simple, yet effective, they make Visual C++ Wizard seem overly complicated!

Swanke includes another element that definitely distinguishes this book from other MFC books: MFC virtual function execution sequences. Swanke does an exceptional job mapping the order of which Windows calls different virtual functions and presents fundamental pointers to important MFC messages. I believe the execution sequences Swanke presents help in design process, during implementation process, and ultimately during maintenance of MFC based applications. Lastly, his solutions are mixtures of MFC and Win32 API. Programmers learn to directly use Win32 API in an MFC architecture and get the best of both worlds.

I highly recommend VC++ MFC Extensions by Example.

Most useful examples of any MFC book
The great thing about this book is it addresses so many situations that MFC programmers find themselves in, and it seems like you're always trying to reinvent the wheel to deal with them.

We're currently wrapping up a 1 year project, and we had a lot of user interface issues that seemed minor, but required some investigation in how to deal with them. Just scanning through the table of contents, we found the solution to at least 4 of those issues, and we implemented them in a matter of minutes.

After greater examination of the book, we've discovered many ideas to incorporate in future releases of our software. Things we had considered, but seemed more difficult than they're going to be.

Swanke is a solid MFC coder who really understands the ins and outs of MFC. His examples don't take the bizarre hack routes that many programmers tend to use to implement things that are out of the ordinary. Instead, he uses MFC in very elegant ways that don't always seem obvious to the rest of us.

I applaud him on a very fine book. I also purchased his book, "Visual C++ MFC Programming by Example" and was equally impressed, and my review of it is available as well.

Excellent Book
I like it very much for it provide lots of examples and explain many questions about programming. So after I finished this book, I bought the other two books written by swanke.

Great Book
I read this book after delving into "home yoga" for about 3 months. As is probably common, I was doing many of the poses only semi-correctly. There is a lot of reading to be done here, but there is incredible detail to help anyone elicit the poses correctly. Dworkis also divides each pose for beginner, moderate, and advanced. After a particularly tough day of running and 5 sets of tennis, I followed the poses and felt refreshed, relaxed, and loose afterwards. The workout is also really only 20 minutes (after learning the poses) and fun to complete as well as challenging when striving for a more advanced level.

As an exercise physiologist certified fitness instructor...
As an exercise physiologist and certified group fitness instructor/personal trainer I highly recommend this book. I have been hesitant to try yoga because of the contraindicated moves (called poses), however this book makes the necessary modifications so that the program is safe, yet still effective and fun. I have looked at many yoga books, and even more videos and classes and this is my favorite. I actually recorded (audio) myself reading some of the descriptions of the poses so that I could do the entire sequence with someone to "cue" me with the appropriate instructions!

The best book ever!
I never wanted to go to Florida because of all the horrors stories I have heard about it but then I read this book and it changed my mind. It's filled with the best pictures ever and I wondered if they were even real. The story line was so detailed that at times I felt like I wasn't even in a damp cold cement room but rather a warm tropical safe haven.I lost sleep over the fact that I may never make it to Florida so I called up the airlines and told them I needed a one way ticket to paradise. That's just what I got and I owe it all to Dan. And Dan if you are out there I just want you to know that the world is a better place with your book and you should be proud of yourself.
Flordia owes you a lot.

Especially for railroading buffs
Florida's Great Ocean Railway: Building The Key West Extension by former college professor, professional boat captain, environmental guide, editor and writer Dan Gallagher is a meticulous study of the construction of a railway line that required extensive logistics, meticulous planning, as well as more than a decade of labor from 1905 to 1916, before it could be put into service. Black-and-white photographs fill the pages of this fascinating historical account which presents the impressive story of shaping dream into reality over the course of years and back-breaking effort. Florida's Great Ocean Railway is very highly recommended reading -- especially for railroading buffs.

A great reference for both C and FORTRAN users!
As the title implies, this book is a great reference for someone who is looking for a guide to the syntax and usage of MPI. The book does not teach "parallel programming" and doesn't discuss other parallel programming tools which means that the nuts and bolts of MPI are all the more clearly presented and accessible. Furthermore, there are still plenty of examples which demonstrate the usage of the many MPI functions.

Another very valuable (and appreciated) aspect of the book is that *both* the C and FORTRAN prototypes are given when new MPI functions are presented (the C and FORTRAN implementations have slightly different forms).

Excellent Reference
Set up more as a reference than a tutorial, this book allows users with a very basic understanding of MPI to really take off up the learning curve

Great pop-up book!!
My 2 year old received this book as well as the ABC book for Christmas and it is now six months later. She is always pulling them out to look at. They have great pictures, and it's a great counting tool to find all of the objects that match on each page. It's got great pictures and lots of different objects to identify.

Snappy does it again
My 20 month old loves this book. If you have any of the other Snappy pop-up books, this one is far superior (along with the ABC one). This is one of the nicest counting books I have found. Lots of interaction.

Excellent presentation of nontraditional higher education
With so much disinformation regarding nontraditional schools offering higher degrees, it's comforting to read a book based in both reality and calmness. No high sales pitch here, just good advice regarding a lot of good, nontraditional schools and programs. Highly recommended.
