I used this book in a class I took on International Marketing Research. It offered a decent overview of international marketing research concepts, but also was fairly dry in parts.

Solid Textbook

This book is a solid work of well researched theory by one of the leading marketing thinkers in Ireland. Given the export led focus of the Irish economy and the success of the economy in the last ten years there is probably no-one better positioned than Bradley to identify the factors salient to the success or failure of international marketing stragegies in the real world. Ideally this book should be used in conjunction with case study material to illustrate the issues. Taken on it's own it may appear to be a little weighty and it could be perceived as a daunting read. However, it remains for me a valuable reference work

Nice short reference book

I would recommend this book as a quick and easy read to introducing oneself to Asian cultures overall.

It provides an outline of country-specific breakdowns of cultural behavior and perspectives. The author then applies this to observations and recommendations for marketing approaches or activities and grazes across both consumer marketing and some business dealings. Overall, I feel this scratches the surface of this interesting subject, and would have preferred to continue to dig a bit deeper into marketing specific examples of success and non-success in each country.

It is written in an easy to read style and I recommend this book as a quick and easy introduction to various Asian cultural differences overall.

more contentious than moving goods
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-11-29
We have all heard about free trade, for the movement of goods and more recently services across national borders. This has generated controvery in many places, but largely it has been accepted. In contrast, this book looks at something far more contentious. The movement of people across borders, in order to perform services. These can be basic manual labour, like migrant workers that pick fruit during a harvest season in the United States. Or it can be white collar professionals. For this, think of finance types moving to London or New York.

The book describes efforts to maximise both types of labour mobility. Migration policies of several key developed countries are explained, including US, New Zealand and Australia. The migrations described here are meant to be temporary, at least in principle.

What is generally true is that for those people with high levels of education, and looking for jobs that use this education, migration is far easier than for unskilled labourers. And broadly, there are fewer problems in the accepting countries about skilled intakes.

This is one of the best presentations on how to build and maintain an international sales network that I have ever seen. We have four copies in our office and all of them are still being used by our consulting staff. We refer to it whenever we lose site of what it takes to maintain a profitable multinational sales force. John R. Jagoe, Director, Export Institute

The First Major Scholarly Book on Falun Gong
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 11 total.
Review Date: 2000-08-06
With estimates for membership ranging between 2-100 million, it is surprising that there have not been more book-length scholarly accounts of this movement. While this book is rather short and at times slightly questionable in terms of the sources which it relies on, it is certainly welcome by scholars and the general public who are looking to learn more about this movement from a scholarly point of view. It is well worth the price and is a very useful volume.
