I bought this book while diving in the Red Sea last week and found it by far the best fish-spotters guide. Other divers were always borrowing it. It also lists likely depths and locations for each fish/coral.

A better title could have been "Reliable accounting for risk, its financial reporting and internal control". It is written against a background of major banking blunders due to their failure to properly account for, report and control risk. This makes the comparision of different accounting standards between countries easier to understand with a discussion of the historical context. (usually the comparison of standards is dead boring - in this book it is not). One of the good things about this book is that it goes beyond the current accounting standards and internal control methods to suggest ways to improve them. It has a very practical approach to issues relating to accounting for risk. Its discussions are deep without being too complex.

This is a great and timely book. The Japanese economy is trying to recover from a decade long recession but it can't. This book explains why it cannot recover and what needs to change in the Japanese economy for it to recover its growth. It is easy to read and has very useful information.

Roelie Post allows the reader a unique insiders view regarding the politics of international adoption. It was an eye-opening account that not many are willing to share to the outside world.

In her experience with Romania's orphan care and international adoption program, Ms. Post begins her journey as many do (innocent) and as her knowledge about the politics behind international adoption grows-- revelations on the real truth behind the industry of international adoption becomes quite clear.

Never again can I look at the "black and white" pictures of the "poor orphans" that rely on us to "save" them with the same naïve eyes. This book offers amazing parallels into other international programs-- including China. Ms. Post talks about the points system, safe-haven drops, attachment studies on orphans, media attention and the pressure from outside countries and NGO's to gain access to Romania's children... all of which are familiar themes in many IA programs.

While it was heart-warming to know that there are many people who work very hard to preserve children's rights, it is equally scary to understand the underlying situation that most will never get to see.

This is a must-read book for anyone entering into the world of international adoption.

This volume is a valuable literature on international relations with regard to understanding the complicated nature of arms control bargaining process. Authors examined growing threats of missile proliferation during 1980s and the emergence of the Missile Technology Control Regimes (MTCR) as well as Russia's missile export policy and its reluctance to involve the MTCR. This study well shows the U.S. efforts for preventing missile proliferation and how it persuaded Russia to participate and embrace the MTCR

This book is the only one I know of that has been written in recent times that has looked at Russian business in an objective way. Although the media tends to make judgements about different cultures, this book, as far as I see, is judgement free. One part I loved about the book, is that it starts off with the fact that the old stories of shortages are passé (this pleased me because after I returned from living in Belarus, many people asked me if there was food on the shelves of stores. After a while I started to get annoyed with people for asking me this when I found that shopping in Belarus, the Ukraine, and in Russia was still faster than your ordinary grocery line up in most other countries). For people interested in Russian business, this is an amazing book for learning about the psyche of the Russian consumer and the reasoning behind why Russian business is the way it is. More generally, however, this book has a broader appeal to those that are interested in people around the world. Whereas most books tend to take a stand on issues either for or against, the authors simply describe a situation, and allow readers to draw their own conclusions, which most of the time lead a person with at least an intermediate level of reasoning skills to realize that Russian business practices and ethics are not necessarily better or worse than those in our respective countries, just different, and that in a broader sense, the history of a country plays a very large role in the determination of how business practices are carried out, as well as what is and isn't considered ethical. Another advantage of this book is that it is up-to-date from people in a good position to know. Although I am unaware of Mr. Wilson's profession in St. Petersburg, I knew beforehand that Mr. Donaldson is an editor for the St. Petersburg Press, who has the initial perception of a Westerner, but the experience of a native, which holds a lot more credibility with me than a professor who has read books on the subject, analysed press releases from accross the ocean, etc. to deliver information to the readers. Definitely worth reading!!!

This rather small volume presents a good overview of UCC sales law and is compact but not shallow. I was also impressed with its treatment of the CISG, which is often wrongly overlooked or barely treated in american books on commercial law, especially in smaller books such as this one. It discusses the CISG and explains the relevance of its provisions in comparison to Art. 2 UCC for the american lawyer/law student. As with its discussion of the UCC provisions, the interspersed treatment of the CISG is clear and compact. The authors distinguish some of the differences between the CISG and UCC, point out problem questions and uncertanties, and generally do a good job in succinctly explaining the essentials and more (I found some interesting arguments and perspectives) for both bodies of law.

If you plan to start exporting? Then this book is a must!

This book is a useful summary of the literature and covers the subject in great detail. For those of us who are attorneys and have to counsel corporate and business clients on export and import matters and requirements for doing business abroad, this book is a useful addition to any legal library. The contributions by Ms. Alexandra Woznick are especially important and useful. Without them, the book would undoubtdly be of far less interest to many of us here in the field.

This is a long-awaited and much-needed insight into the way history and culture have informed and influenced management styles in Aisa and the West. Lynette Lithgow's book is a timely reminder that the results of today are often to be found in the mistakes of the past. Worth reading...
