Mike Peng sure knows how to express his ideas clearly and effectively. In addition, he grabs the reader's attention and doesn't
let go by coming up with exciting topic after exciting topic. This is definitely a great piece of work for anyone that wants
a deeper look into the effects of globalization and the United States economy. I highly recommend it.

With Her Pen as a Paintbrush

Another wonderful episode in Ms. "Peckwith's" amazing chronicle of her years on the Scottish Island. With this book, the
author really turns her pen into a paintbrush. "We sat together staring contemplatively at the startled looking sea wavelets
racing before the fresh breeze, at the clean carved shapes of the Islands; at the gently blue sky strewn with clouds that
looked as soft and inviting as white fur rugs; at mists lit with rainbows and mountains silvered with sunlight." The visuals
of the scenery are quite simply breathtaking, as are the wonderful characters that just spring from the pages. With gentleness
and a great deal of humor, the idiosyncrasies of the villagers are delivered in a forthright, but never condescending manner.
The hygiene of this time and place will make a modern mama's blood run cold (and probably the postman's too) and the brutal
work load will make you grateful for our modern conveniences. I predict you will love the charming journey into another place
and time - but probably be glad you are traveling via armchair. While this book stands on its own, I am glad I read it after
the other three Bruach books: The Hills is Lonely, The Sea for Breakfast and The Loud Halo. The book also contains a delightful
little list of Gaellic translations and pronunciations. --Silly Old Cailleach Mamalinda

A seminal work bringing together in one volume the most up to date scholarship on the emergence of the City of London as the
premier financial centre during the latter half of the nineteenth century. The breadth of scholarship as exemplified in the
various sections notably by van Helten, Cassis as well as Kennedy is particularly impressive. The critical and controversial
debates about the volumes of British investment overseas, the role of investment trusts, British investment in mineral extractive
industies especially in gold mining in South Africa around the turn of the century are examined in detail.

If entreprenurial history fascinates you, this book will not let you down. Hardwork, genius, forsight, taking chances and
a family that persevers make for some interesting history of America's largest privately held company.

Jane Hughes is perhaps the most brilliant mind in the field of global economic markets and international banking today. "Carnival
on Wall Street" is a perfect example of her ability to present her profound insights and incisive analysis in a way that is
utterly readable. This book is a must-read for anybody interested in the 1990's financial boom or the movement of markets
in general. Also, her book "New Tigers and Old Elephants" is the authoritative volume on development in the 21st century.

This isn't an easy read and you'll be checking the list of acronymns in the back of the book frequently. Still, this is the
only book that discusses the evolution of the financial markets in China. It was published in 2003, so many things have changed.

This is the Bible of Chinese Export Silver. It doesn't get any better than this book. The problem is that it was only published
once in 1975 and is scarce as only 2000 copies were ever printed and most are in museum and library collections. The owners
of the copyright have declared that its content will never be reprinted or sold so the information in this book is truly rare
and invaluable. This book contains complete references with multiple black and white photographs of samples of Chinese Export
or China Trade Silver made from 1785 to 1885. The text is scholarly and includes detailed photo samples of objects by a number
of makers. Pictures of various maker's mark and artist's chop, make identification of these beautifully decorated silver pieces
extremely easy. Has information, pictures of examples, lists of makers and marks, and information that you just can't find
anywhere else. There is not another book on Chinese silver that comes close to matching this book in content. Using the book
you can usually find the general date of manufacture, the silversmith, the maker, their marks and the address of their shop!
Provenance of the American trade and worldwide trade in Chinese Silver is fully detailed and documented in this amazing reference
book. This is required ownership for antique dealers, scholars of the China Trade, rare book collectors and silver collectors.
Find it (if you can) and Purchase it.
