This is a great book. Required for my class. You can probably find this book a few bucks cheaper. I rather pay the extra dough and save on time and hassle wasted like waiting in line during the beginning days of school or waiting for the auction to end or hoping the seller ships your book to get it before the beginning weeks of class. Just save time and sanity and purchase from amazon.

This is a book I use as an instructor but has many uses for the general reader as well. From making a decision and creating goals to resume how-to's, this is a helpful guide for those who may want a well-rounded view of career planning. What also makes this book "well-rounded" is its focus on theory. Very applicable for those who are going through a change of career or choosing a major in college.

THE CAREER FITNESS PROGRAM is a wonderful book. The reader is gently lead through the process of career exploration form self-insight to final job search. The book is written with lively language and has great clarity and precision. This new 2001 6th edition has current web references and has cutting-edge insight into the important issues of todays's world of work inculding: Americans with Disabilites Act (ADA), Career Information Services (CIS);Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT); North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA); and the Secretary's Commission on Achieveing Necessary Skills (SCANS). Well-organized and supremely readable, THE CAREEER FITNESS PROGRAM will appeal to mature adults seeking career change and renewal, as well as secondary, college, or graduate students. A "must-get" book in the career and job field, a "classic" to be compared with WHAT COLOR IS YOUR PARACHUTE.

I just took a summer career class with this book and I highly recommend it. It validated the good things that I have done to be successfully, introduced me to new things and it reminded me of what I already new. Great book if you are lost and a highly recommended class if you don't know what you want to do in your career, changing careers or have come to a point in your life that it is necessary to change careers.

I expected more from the text, based on the title. The material seems to reflect the job market of 10 years ago - little reference to what's happening in the industry today that job seekers need to know. The text places heavy emphasis on the self-concept and values which are important, but skills the person has and how they relate to positions in the workplace are of utmost importance. An individual may have interest in a career field, but it could be one that's fading not emerging. I was expecting a book that would allow the reader to insert new ideas and new strategies right into a job search. The book may suffice as a supplemental reading, but not as a tutorial on establishing a career and finding a job. It lacks vision. I felt it was analog thinking in a digital world.
