On my first trip to Europe, I did it all by foot and bus. As I got older and smarter, I decided to take advantage of the massive European railroad sytem. I needed a a map that could put it all in perspective for me; so I got a hold of the Europe Railroad Map. It saved me time and patience. Look no further!

Most of the in-depth analysis of the euro and its likely future has been written by people who are trying to prove something - either that the euro is a good idea or a bad one. So it is refreshing to read a book which analyses the chances of the euro succeeding with no apparent bias.

The lack of bias may be due to it having been written by an American, who therefore has no particular axe to grind.

On that basis I recommend "A guide to the euro" by Professor H. Levin, ISBN 0-618-21547-6, published by Houghton Mifflin.

There is plenty in the book to please and concern the anti-euro lobby and the pro-euro lobbies alike. To find out what Professor Levin concludes about the euro you will need to read the book.

Useful contribution to vital debate
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2001-05-17
This is a fascinating collection of articles on the vital question - should Britain enter the euro? Nine economists evaluate the economic and policy implications of Economic and Monetary Union (EMU). Three somewhat atypical representatives of business - Stephen Davies of the Institute of Directors, and the Lords Haskins and Simon - discuss its likely effect on British firms. Couldn't they find anybody from manufacturing industry?

Unfortunately, the editors include only two trade unionists, both of whom support EMU. Why didn't they find someone to speak for the majority of trade union members who oppose it? Finally, four MPs discuss its effect upon national sovereignty.

The contribution by John Edmonds, the GMB's General Secretary, is most revealing. He argues for conditionally supporting EMU. Yet he admits, "The tendency in any negotiations is for conditions to be successively stripped away until all that remains is a stark position of support covered by a few words of threadbare rhetoric." Quite!

The editors write that entering EMU "is intended to be a one-way shift towards future economic integration." But that is not all that EMU means: Edmonds openly says that he wants to `achieve extensive political union'. That is why he supports our entry into the euro: the euro was, until recently, the key motor for driving us all into the single European state that the EU's leaders all want.

Blair has now had to accept that he cannot presently win a referendum on the euro. However, this does not mean that he will respect our wishes in future. The EU's leaders can advance on many different fronts and employ many different devices to form a single European state: the Euro-army, the Charter of Fundamental Rights, Corpus Juris, a single taxation policy, etc.

The majority of the British people do not want to enter the euro. Doesn't democracy have something to do with what people want?

The Law and Practice of Offshore Banking and Finance

Good, solid title.

As an attorney with a keen interest in the area, and both a practice and academic interest in the same, I was very pleased with the book. Mr. Kwaw provides an excellent overview of the structures, methodologies and other important information in the subject matter. I especially enjoyed the chapter on Eurosecurities financing. My only gripe with the book is (and I do find this annoying) is the misnomer title. Although the book is titled "... Offshore Banking & Finance", perhaps a more appropriate title would have been "... Eurocurrency Banking & Finance". Though this may seem like a minor quibble, the practical implications are quite important, as offshore banking and related activies are not necessarily structured in euro-currency, and this book deals exclusively with aspects of the eurocurrency market. Still, an excellent book. Recommended.

12 guys, all nude, all non-circumcised. I might be considered an amateur compared to some photographers, but it does seem like one or two of the pictures had the contrast set too high. Also, many of the models look either uncomfortable or that they just didn't want to be there. Sure, if you want to see naked guys with uncut erections, this fits the bill, but I'd recommend checking this calendar out in person at an adult store (e.g. Lambda Rising) first.

The Jingo Wobbly guide is the most comprehensive I have seen for Portugal. Well worth the euros. I have used it for the major areas around Lisbon and it loses a star only due to the fact that some of the difficulty ratings are not in accord with the current opinion (the book will often give a harder rating than the local community). Having said that, it is only a question of a letter grade and the route beta is impeccable. The multi-language symbol guide is great and doubles as a place marker. Anyone with a minimum of English skills will be able to locate the crags and routes that fit their desire and level. I would buy it again... if it were in print.

Its a great vocabulary builder, but doesnt get into grammar. I recommend this as a backup source or a secondary source, or if you are going to Azerbaidjan are planning to use the language a bit, as it does teach phrases. You can change the language interface to almost any language you can think of (from Mexican Spanish to Manx Gaelic), so you can actually get unspoken vocabulary from any language you can think of plus Azeri spoken. Buy it, why not :)

I found this CD Rom very easy to use and lots of fun. The interactive activities made learning fun and rewarding. Only problem was the lack of grammar education and extensive phrases. A good beginner's resource though.
