This book should be read by adults as well as children. If you are a individual starting your own business for the first time and without any knowledge of how to manage a business then the lemonade stand is where you should start. chapters 10, 11 and 12 were very helpful for me. A well written book Mr Modu.

A must for those who want entrepreneurial children

I found Emmanuel Modu's book to be a necessity for all parents. Not just because it helps them encourage their kids into the business world, but also because it provides a guidline on how to help children become independent thinkers and happy individuals. Mr. Modu pinpoints many mistakes paretns [unintentionally]make while trying to teach their kids about the ways of life. After reading "The Lemonade Stand", parents will be able to overcome such mistakes and help groom their offspring into freethinking and dyamic people. If you take evertying written in this book to heart, you may be raising the next Rockeffellar or Larry Ellison ;)

A French Pioneer

Review Date: 2007-10-02
What a fresh, yet detailed, read of this French businessman at the turn of the nineteenth century. It is interesting that he characterized his factory nearly 150 years ago as being "plagued with drunkenness, neglect of Sunday observance, few marriages "with honor" and a lack of proper religious education for children". Reading the newspapers today I would add to this list and then wonder what has happened to our world. Harmel did his best to correct the problems of his day, to which great credit is given by the author of this fine read. Will we do as well? A great book.

This is an exquisitely well researched book that is also a pleasure to read. Coffey's arguments are cogent and her conclusions sound, all supported by a tremendous amount of work in French and Vatican archives. The book's analysis of Harmel and his work provides us with a penetrating glimpse into the late Second Empire, the Third Republic and the role of the Catholic Church in Republican France. Highly recommended for scholars of modern France.

As a person going through the struggles of starting my own business, had I had this book in the beginning, I believe that many of the struggles I faced would have been diminshed. Melvin Gravely has absolutely captured the essence of the "going into business" experience. All entrepreneurs go through the same stages and fears. Melvin has given me insight into the challenges I had and still do struggle with. Now I have insight and tools to understand and work through those issues. I highly recommend this book for anyone contemplating going into business or anyone wishing to stay in their business.

Mel Gravely manages to demystify entrepreneurship with this easy to read, thought provoking book. The contribution of this book is unique in that it addresses the mind-set shift needed to successfully make the transition from employee to entrepreneur. The book is built on his highly insightful premise that the majority of business owners don't fail, they quit. He makes some powerful points when looking at the mistakes business owners commonly make. While the mistakes business owners make over and over may be common knowledge, the answers provided in the book on how to stop making them apparently isn't. I find his thinking and research on what causes people to quit to lead to some very proactical, doable advice. He will challenge you to do things that don't necessarily come naturally to entrepreneurs, like focusing your resources, and working toward your goals by stretching yourself, not straining yourself. One quick and dirty test I measure the quality of a book by is in answering one question, "did it change my behavior?" The answer to the question after reading this book for me was, "YES IT DID."

A good read for entrepreneur facing current issue
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-11-25
The current uncertain economy is giving many entrepreneurs and business executives many sleepless nights. Worried about the declining sales, huge payroll and the unpredictable future, what should companies do?
Many businesses choose to lay off employees and cut down expenses. Is this the best decision for the business? Naked Entrepreneur addresses this issue.
If a business layoff people because they just want to cut their expenses, then they are making a decision based on their fear, not the truth (fact). Naked Entrepreneur wants you to "get Naked" and facing your truth. Making an important decision based on fear might solve your short term problem but it creates more headaches down the road. Do you layoff your people because they are "high expenses" or they are "non-productive"?
Naked Entrepreneur is an interesting book to read for entrepreneurs and business executives during this recession. It makes you think about now and your future.

Troy's journey makes for an incredible read!

Troy's journey is certainly one any current or up-and-coming entrepreneur should consider reading. I actually saw Troy speak recently, and in 1 hour he made more "real" sense about client relationships and how to really look after clients than any marketing degree, seminar I've attended or book I've read. His thoughts are so simple yet powerful and you know he's coming from a place of freedom, heart and power all at the same time. His book will really make you think about what's important in your business and personal lives.

Boiling down mentorship into bite sized analytical pieces

I think I consumed this book from a different perspective. As a repeat entrepreneur, I see what makes the technical workings of a functional business starter.

I liked specifically
- being able to learn from another person's mistakes
- confirming what needs to be addressed before even starting a business
- once in a while taking inventory (I never define success so I am never successful)
- focusing on the important (and not just the urgent)

I recommend this book to people in the midst of running a business (or those that can take downtime to re-read the book over the holidays). If you're travelling with the book you might want to check it because it does weigh a ton.

I require this text in my graduate New Venture course at Western Michigan University. The real life cases and fundamental concepts covered provide a great foundation for New Venture teaching. I also require my start-up consulting clients to read Chpt 1,2 & 3 along with the case study "R&R". Good way to find out if they have what it takes. I first used and enjoyed this book from the other side of the class during my MBA studies at the GSB - University of Chicago.

Wow! I couldn't believe this book. The hardest part of being in network marketing is bringing in new people. And I especially want to interest professionals. But they are so hard to get past their own prejudices. This book does it all for you. It is factual, heartwarming, and compelling. If you are a professional looking for some alternative outside of your current work, or if you are a network marketer looking for some means that will help you make a better presentation about our industry to your professional prospects, this book is the answer. Believe me, I have never found anything that answers people's questions and addresses their concerns about network marketing better than the messages and stories contained in The New Entrepreneurs.

I connected with the words of Joline Godfrey. Her evaluation on what women are doing in business, helps all of us see the opportunities to do things differently. The first chapter where she talks about the right stuff struck home - women needing connection with others, seeing people as whole individuals, wanting balance in life, seeing business as a creative outlet, are all principles she dives into - they make sense for those seeking to more than financial goals. There are many bottom lines in life - the women business owners the book reviews get it and are designing business with a bigger picture in mind. Thank you Joline for shifting my thinking - I was already headed in that direction - your book help me get there a little faster.

This book was a life changer for me. My entire paradygm shifted about my own potential to be an entrepreneur after reading this book. It was instrumental in my decision to leave my public school teaching position and start my own business. I found the specific stories of women's successes and struggles encouraging. I had often given up on ideas once problems started to arise, but after reading this book, I adopted the mantra "Every problem has a solution." It has helped me through many a seemingly crisis situation. I have reread it several times. The most valuable piece for me was the perspective that we women can do something that we love, have fun AND make a living. My husband also enjoyed this book, so it's not just for women.
