I got hooked on Ashleigh Brilliant back when his books were in the bookstores. Then I packed the books away after memorizing them. Then one day I finally remembered his name and went online. Yeah!!

To me, he's even funnier than back then. My husband became hooked and then a friend. Better order your copy because I am stocking up for Christmas presents soon!

Suitable for framing, for bumper stickers, for epitaphs, for anyone who thinks. This collection of "Pot Shots" inspires the reader to laugh out loud while simultaneously nodding in wise agreement. The brilliant Mr. Brilliant succeeds in arranging his pot shot thoughts into groupings which are then introduced with equally astute mini-essays on his observations of the human condition. He seems to say so much with so few words. Can we elect him to some public office?

I have had very depressed and/or bitter patients who break out laughing in the reception room after 3-5 minutes of reading this book. I mean tears coming out in a cathartic relief.
My own "Ashleigh Brilliant" is:
"I like you so much I miss you even when I'm with you".

This book is very humorous. It brings to mind many of the bits of life I have lived. The best part is that it is not isolated issues. In addition, the sketches add a great deal to the total humor. I just happened to come across it in the library. Such a treat. Thank you for brightening my days.

I'm glad this has been in print since 1996. I hope it is available for a long time. It appeals to the imagination of LD children and other children. It is supportive, encouraging, and most of all fun. I didn't see a place to recommend other books so I'd like to mention Little Lemon - Activities for Developing Motivation and Memory Skills by Betsy B. Lee. It has specific strategies along with the story. I think these two books are a helpful combination.

I-Operations: Insightful and Informative Book
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.

This book rates highly with me because: 1) it's brief and to the point, 2) it treats I-Operations in the larger enterprise operations context, 3) it deals with the nuances of I-Operations in a thorough, clear manner, and 4) it's well written in manner accessible by non-IT executives as well - I can give it any reasonably IT-literate CxO to read.

The last section incorporating the "10 F's" is especially welcome and well done.

I had the pleasure of meeting Brett Johnson recently and it's always reassuring to know that an author can "walk the talk", as is the case here.

I strongly recommend this book.

I find Brett Johnson's book full of substance that is pertinent to the issues being wrestled with in business today. This book is also very accessible, with a clean writing style that makes it easy to grasp the content. Highly recommended for business leaders.

The missing link for a methodology around IAM implementation

Review Date: 2008-09-30
I have worked in the Identity and Access Management space since 1999 and have seen so many books focused on technology. This is the first book I have read takes a different approach that is based on a more practical angle focusing first on the business process, people, and requirements. I like how the book has been put together because it is practical, makes sense, and to the point without a lot of fluff. The book is not bogged down with technical jargon and specific technologies. It is focused on real world practical experience and being in the field of IAM I can certainly agree with all the information and am going to be leveraging it for my own engagements with clients. Well worth the big price!!!

Wish I'd had this book for my last Identity project

Review Date: 2008-06-06
We had just run through an identity project and it tanked - badly. Our company was given all sorts of advice by "Industry Analyst" firms and inbound consultants from several large service delivery companies. In the end, none of it made a difference in our politically charged environment. If our stakeholders could have taken a more measured approach, such as outlined in "IAM Success Tips: Volume1", the results could have been so much better.

Having read "Digital Identity" and other well-known books in the space, here is what I can say about "IAM Success Tips: Volume 1"

--It is not designed as the standard techie or business book. If you're looking for detailed, bit-level discussion of Federation standards, Kerberos, configuring connectors, agents, integration issues, adapters and the like, this book is not for you. On the other hand, if you're interested in getting everyone on the same page and designing a long-lasting successful program that has a good chance of staying on budget and on target with manageability, this book *is* for you

--The book seems to be designed to follow in a course of subsequent volumes, and this is referenced in the book as well. Project Management, Implementation Details, and other facets of the "Six Stages" discussed in this book, will be covered in later volumes

--The book is clearly written, and contains useful examples. Moreover, it attempts to reduce the mystery surrounding identity management acronyms. I shared this book with a couple of non-technical managers, and they were able to follow along easily

--The book starts with a detailed introduction, then gets right into the tips. The tips in this book are written in mostly consecutive order, with a strong emphasis on how to start the right way before even beginning. In some ways, it reminded me of Sun Tsu's statement of "every battle is won, before it is ever fought." So true with large IT projects!!

--Following the tips, is an appendix section which covers a plethora of issues, from identity-related regulations, to role modeling. I found this section to be especially useful for additional background information I had not seen covered elsewhere on the web

Favorite parts of the book:

--The Appendix - as noted above. Provides some useful background from someone who has obviously done this in the real world, instead of philosophizing about "best practices"

-- Tip #10: "Identifying the Stakeholders With the Most to Win or Lose"

This is one of the many valuable ways in which the book tackles tough political topics. Few seem to understand, my company included, that politics and culture make or break projects, not technology. (Though technology can cause its own set of issues.) The stakeholder tips were well worth the read and will be useful in my next project.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book. It is concise, well-written, useful, not too long and not too short, and easy to follow.

I bought this book from another site but am now buying it for a colleague of mine as a gift. I can't say enough about this book. I had a project with a Fortune 100 company with a limited budget and time line so I needed all the advantages I could get to complete the project successfully. I used tips and advice from this book which literally saved me countless hours, headaches and meetings with demanding project managers on just how to successfully complete my project. This book helped me understand the crucial "preplanning" steps required for a program of that size, and with the advice in this book, I was finally able to convince management to send us offsite for a few days to come up with the right program concept to understand the real business value and goals. A great tool with an easy to understand format. I'm looking forward to the next book.

The author is a former elementary school teacher and it shows. She really knows what makes children's imaginations. She addresses their dreams, anxieties and curiosity with this collection of poems ranging from the humorous ("I Want My Teacher Fired!") to the comforting ("My Pet Died").

Every school library should own this book, but it's especially wonderful for a parent and child to share together.

Mr. Schmookler does an excellent job critiquing conventional economic theory of all stripes in this book. He shows the virtues and flaws of markets in good detail. The finest part of this work, though, in my opinion, was its fine rejection of libertarian economic ideas, especially since it utilizes the words of the libertarians themselves in doing so. Mr. Schmookler has obviously studied the views of numerous conventional and alternative economists and he does a fine job of explaining their views and problems with them. Just an excellent work - easily the finest text I've seen on economics yet. Highly recommended.

The book itself is a well structured process of developing a business plan that has served me well. By adding the downloadable software, it greatly enhances the process, making it easy to use and improves the likelihood that users will create a professional business plan. It is so much easier to tailor something than to start from scratch. I think the book is an excellent value.

We have been recommending that the attendees to our seminar purchase "The Instant Business Plan." The book has been found to be one of the best presentations for new entrepreneurs. It is easy to make a business plan by answering the numerous questions presented. This framework of a business plan is then organized to make it a finished presentation following the sample plan as a guide. --Alex Grossman, Seminar Chairman, SCORE, Chapter #29, Miami

I'm an American based in Japan and working all over Asia. I found this book to be an outstanding analysis of the relationships between Americans and their foreign colleagues or customers.

It's written from a business perspective more so than an academic perspective. Although the style is a bit heavy, I still found many of the anecdotes entertaining.

In the past four years, I have used Intercultural Communication in the Global Workplace with over 500 community college students interested in cultural differences from a business perspective. This book provides a useful structure for thinking and talking about both the theoretical foundations of global diversity as well as the practical implications of working cross culturally - - whether from a desk in the USA or traveling and working abroad. The book is well-organized and includes thoughtfully selected, real-life examples of cultural differences (which I, as an overseas expatriate of 20 years can verify). The real value of the book is in these multiple examples which give readers a sense of the rich diversity of our globalized world and the importance of encountering business people from other cultures (both within the USA and abroad) with an awareness of, and sensitivity to, their cultural priorities. The case study in the chapter on negotiations with other cultures is particularly well-conceived and useful.
