Great book, for everyone who is trying to find God in their life

This is an incredible hands on account of someone who has God in their life, and who seeks God for everything. Through her faith and trust in God, she was able to reconcile her faith with Christianity. Although I have already been down this path, it was quite refreshing to hear someone "write" about the subject. Excellent book. My hats off to Jen for having the courage to write, and for God to publish it!

Fantastic Story!

Jen's story is so much like many others. The exception, she tells hers. Many other GLBT persons don't do that. She is very candid and honest about her journey. Whether you are Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered or Straight, everyone can find something to like about this book. So many people struggle with their faith and becoming who they are. It doesn't matter if you are gay or not. I think that by reading this book, maybe, at least one can hope, that at least one skeptic will come away with a changed opinion. Being Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual or Transgendered is NOT a choice. Jen proves that. Again and again. If she didn't have the internal struggles that she had with accepting herself, one might see it as a choice. Why would anyone go thru that kind of self evaluation only to be rediculed and spat upon by member's of society, by choice?? No one.
Read this... maybe you can help change a mind.

I just finished this book and loved it! For anyone struggling to be gay and christian, Coming Out Christian is the perfect book for you. Jen Austin fills in the gaps with her own personal struggles of life. It was an easy read filled with so much. Because of this book, I am looking at my own relationships differently: with God, with my parents and friends, and with my comitted lover. I highly suggest picking this book up.

This short novel is a great read with interesting plot twists and turns. The idea of the committee is brilliant and relates to everyone of us. It's a new age version of Hawthorne's, Young Goodman Brown, and gives reassurance to anyone battling substance abuse and lack of faith.

A great story!

This book is written very well, and provides an insightful look into the mind of someone who abuses substances. I read the book in four hours! I had to know what was going to happen next.

As someone interested in entrepreneurship this book was very helpful. What really sets this book apart from other popular books on entrepreneurism is that Sortino gives a very balanced presentation of its ups and downs. He doesn't pretend that it's all golden, unlike other authors (i.e., the "Rich Dad" series). Sortino explains what it takes to be an entrepreneur and what you have to do to set your business in motion. He gets into the psychological aspects of being an entrepreneur and explains that you have to want it for more than just money. This book is a great read for a novice and I recommend it to anyone interested in entrepreneurship.

I'm currently launching my first company and in the process I've read TONS of books on marketing, accounting systems, business management, etc. I've had a subscription to INC. magazine for the past two years and I've read each issue diligently.

But in this book, John Sortino encapsulates much of the information I got from those sources and added a great deal about topics like taking your company public, keeping your relationships healthy while you're growing your business, and the opportunities available to you after you've become a successful entrepreneur.

I recommend this book to any one making there way as an entreprenuer. If you're reading this, John, thanks for sharing your experience with me. Oh, and I bought my mom a Vermont Teddy Bear! She loves it!

Fine resource. Much more practical than most how-to books, and filled with really valuable advice. Best parts are the "tips sheets" that pass along useful how-to information without a lot of chit-chat. Book is very well-written throughout.

The Complete Small Business Sourcebook is the state-of-the-art guidebook for small business owners and managers. More than five years in the making, it was the brainchild of three book publishers working jointly to devise its format, select personnel to work on it, and chart its course of completion. The Sourcebook was compiled by three authors, four researchers, and other publishing experts. For small businesses, it is a gateway to information and counsel, and as reliable a source of information as can be found anywhere in a single volume.

Esther Hershenhorn makes Howie Fingerhut a memorable character who will live a long life in the minds of his readers. With never failing optimism, Howie bumbles his way through various business fiascos as his 4th grade embarks on a themed year of learning: How to Run your own Business. Third fourth and fifth graders will wish they went to this school! Howie, who bills himself as the Boy for all Seasons, never loses his energy, enthusiasm or buoyant spirit, as he carefully records his experiences for his self help book which will be published when he wins the H. Marion Muckley Junior Business Person of the Year award. Even when his parents, classmates and neighbors have doubts, he knows that Howie stands for Hopeful, Original, Willing, Intelligent and Enthusiastic.
A real page turner, the hilarious Confe$$ions and $ecret$ of Howard J. Fingerhut is not to be missed!

This book has a wonderful voice, a warm tone, and a main character that you fall in love with on the very first page. For a book aimed at this age group, you can't ask for much more.

In one of the cleverest presentations I have ever seen, the author leads us through a contest held at school for businessperson of the year. The book is Howard's chronicle of that contest, including - as the title brazenly states - his confe$$ion$ and $ecret$ that will cause him to win the contest. Because, as he tells us very pointedly in the beginning of the book, he is absolutely going to win. He has tremendous, enviable, and infectious confidence. I would very, very much like to see more of Howard J. Fingerhut, and fervently hope that the author will write more about him. I firmly believe that this is a character that should be in the canon of "great characters" in children's fiction.

This book had it all for me. Life lessons, learning lessons (a character must grow, and we watch, affectionately, as Howie grows), and several sections of side splitting laughter. I haven't actually laughed aloud while reading a book since reading almost anything by Terry Pratchett, so this is, from me at least, very high praise.

I can't recommend this higher. If you're considering buying this book for your child - PLEASE, PLEASE do so. You will not be disappointed, and you will find that you will enjoy the book as much as they will.

Howie is a funny kid with a great sense of humor and lots of ambition. He thinks like a kid, so he's very believable. His class mates are real, too. It's just nice to find a children's book that is not fantasy bound or problem-centered, but one that deals with a real kid's world- probably a suburban kid. Children will identify with Howie or recognize him or one of his classmates. It will bring a smile to every reader's face- both young and old. This book proves sometimes reality can be a pleasant experience.

Cooking Across America
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2002-02-17
I purchased this book after watching the show on PBS for some time. I just finished serving the World-Famous Pumpkin Rolls to guests, and from the look on their faces and the 'mmmms', I think it was a success. This is 'Cuisine Americana' with a peek at a host of cooking genre. The book is very well laid out with many mouth-watering illustrations (the photo convinced me to try the Pumpkin Rolls). What I especially like is that most of the ingredients can be obtained at the local grocery store. The instructions are broken down into very easily understood steps which will please most people, especially persons with limited cooking experience.
The Cook-Off America series has traveled to various culinary festivals across the country. The book gives the reader a delightful sampling of the best of each. It will give you an opportunity to experience the essence of American cuisine. Your family will love the gastronomic voyage!

I have enjoyed watching the "Cook-off America" show on public TV and decided to order the companion book from Amazon. Why didn't anyone think of this series sooner? They traveled from one food festival to another around the country and selected some of the top winning recipes.

The book is packaged very attractively in a bright-red cover and presents a lot of background material about the different cook-offs.

I have tried 3 of the recipes. The lemon sour cream custard pie was outstanding and well worth making again in the future. The catfish stuffed with basil-olive pesto was very good, as was the fork-tender stuffed pork roast.

There are a number of other recipes I want to try. I did think some of the ingredients in some recipes were rather exotic, but I feel I got my money's worth from the book.

I'm disappointed now that I was unaware of the PBS Series from which this book came. The title intrigued me, and I just had to see what kind of recipes were winners.

There is some down-right good cooking going on here in this collection, if the several I've tried are any indication.

Right off the bat I had to try the cover recipe, being a craver of Stilton, the Stilton and Toasted Walnut Burgers with Grilled Tomatoes and Spicy Leeks. It is oh so gooood! Next came my craving for cashews with the heavenly combo of "Cashew-Crusted Catfish with Tomato-Basil Cream." Only other entree attempted so far caught my attention from a favorite whitefish with cream cheese topping recipe I have which this recipe modifies for flank steak called "Flamboyant Flank Steak with Fragrant Filling" made with mascarpone and a sweet-sour style marinade. Yummy!

The Grilled Bratwurst recipe is one I've got in the wings to try as well as a delightful "Grilled Salmon in Tequilla-Lime Marinade with Tropical Fruit Salsa and Caribbean Wild Rice."

There are some great looking desserts going on in this collection, especially "Chocholate Chip Pecan Bread Pudding with Whiskey Cream Sauce."

This is a broad sweeping book of winners, with enough diverse variety to please most palates, with ingredients and techniques I'm sure most cooks will have no problems with. This is great cooking fun!

This book carries a powerful message that not only brings forth some issues that I need to confront and be healed from. But it reminded me of God's great concern and love for me even in the midst of my pain. This is a must-read with a mesmerizing and direct message: God is still concerned about us even when we think all others have forsaken us.

I was thoroughly blessed by this book. It was very reader friendly, just like sitting down and having a chat with Lynn. Even though it deals with past events in her life, it speaks to situations we deal with every day. Reading how Lynn overcomes the obstacles she faced gives such encouragement to those of us dealing with issues and struggles right now, and I believe that it will bring healing and deliverance to those who read it.

Ryan Bernard's book (published title "The Corporate Intranet"), is one of the best technical books I read lately. It is very clear, useful, well written and practical. The book answered many of my lingering questions. Its "cookbook" approach, well selected and presented examples make it very easy to follow. Unlike in many other books, no new terminology is used before it's explained. I highly recommend it to anyone starting to build an Intranet. Susan Farkas, NYLCare Healthplans, N.Y.C.

Cracking the New E-conomy has been a great help in developing strategies for my new company. I really like the fact that I was gathering advice from 60 plus professionals rather than just one. It was like attending a weeklong conference without the cost. A great investment!

Not only would I have done things different - I would have done them smarter and quicker. This book contains, in a very easy read, everything you need to get your business venture up and running. The writers know their stuff and are happy to share it. They address issues that I did not even know to look out for, and they do so in a very readable way. Buy this book - even if your venture is not in high tech.

Although it serves as a site planning and design guide, it has an excellent quick-reference section and HTML concepts are boiled down as well as any 'Teach Yourself' book I've read.

If you are interested in providing freelance web design skills (including graphics) or starting your own firm, this book will serve you well as a launching pad to a new professional career.
