This is a great book to prepare you for the pharmacy technician certification exam. It has enough information to prepare you without overwhelming you too much data. I studied this book for 4 weeks and passed with flying colors in December 2008.

I took the March 2006 PTCE and began studying for it in November 2005. Over that time I aquired many different books (as I suggest you do if you already haven't) to study for the test (Check out the rates of passing on ptcb.org).

When used with a multitude of other books it will obviously take a lot more time to get through all of the books in entirity.

this book in particular is a bire more of a review over many things you may already know. So I wouldn't necessarily reccomend this as the first book you begin study with.

I found this to be very informative and helpful. Every chapter is like a review and it is followed by a series of quizzes.

But if this is one of the books you are using to study (keep in mind studying for more than 20 minutes at a time is considered cramming and you absorb less of what you read) you may just possibly want to begin studying sooner than I had.

This, is no small book. You need a very fair amount of time to properly read through then review all you should have learned by books end.

the only text you'll need =)

A gift to the planet

As I read 'The Sacred Awakening of Light Warriors', a lot of things started to make sense. Suddenly I understood the loneliness and disconnection that I had felt all my life; the aloneness was actually an illusion, but an experience which was essential in order to know the pain of humanity. In their teachings, The Counsel of Light gently remind us that it is necessary to know this pain so that we may fulfill our world task, a task unique for each one of us and yet always related to the healing of ourselves, one another and the Earth.

The lesson which I found to be most insightful is that on 'The Gifts of The Seven Sacred Awakenings'. This gives an overview of the spiritual journey from the first faint rememberance that we are all here with a purpose, to the knowing that we are already enlightened beings, radiating love, connected to all that is and embodying this truth in every moment. It has been a source of guidance to be able to recognise as I experience the early stages of awakening in myself.

The lessons in this book resonate as profound truths and I sense that this text will play a vital role in the expansion of conscious awareness which is happening on the planet right now.

I have read the book several times and every time I receive a different and even deeper message. The book is very simply written with very simple examples but very profound and enlightening. It is very inspiring and gave me the hope that I was not alone, I was looked after and there is a bigger plan. The energy of the author and the counsel of light comes through the book and fills you with love and light. This is a book with a message for everyone.
For anyone interested in understanding their purpose and walking the spiritual path, this book is a must. It gives courage to those who are scared to take that first step and is a wonderful guide.

I bought this book because I like the introduction. Upon reading, I feel a rush inside of me. Somehow while reading this book, you know that what she is saying is true, yet you are not sure what it is. This book is an awakening, it will guide you to your path. Let me just put it in a small sentence : its a book which will show you your spiritual path and also whats in your life.
I gave it 4 stars due to the context of the channeling. Sometimes it is a bit repetitious, but in the end, its a beautiful book. Its more of a spiritual awareness book. I can't comment more on this, since every one is different, and everyone's path is different, but with this book, it will let you be aware of whom you are and what's for you ahead.

I am an avid reader of memoirs and I must say after all the memoirs I have personally read over the years THIS one took me the least amount of time to get through. It was a book I simply couldn't put down!! Mr Silber is a man with a definite story to tell and in the only way a man who was actually THERE can tell it! Simply fascinating! Bravo!!

I have worked professionaly with Mr. Silber and I believe him to be a truthful storyteller without ulterior motives. Reading this book is like listening to his stories just as he has recounted them to me. I enjoyed the fact that this book is not "as told to", nor is it glossed over with happy endings and filled out with sordid details. The photographs are marvelous, the majority being taken by the author himself while on the job. This book reminds the reader that an era is gone and what passes for entertainment these days is sad in comparison.

I like this book because the author, Arthur Silber Jr., was actually there during the so called "Rat Pack" days, and witnessed these events first hand. Also, I come from a long entertainment background, and his show-biz vernacular is right on! It is interesting to get a bird's eye view of this history, and this is a fabulous book.

This is an easy read and an excellent book defining the struggle of Sammy Davis Jr. as he worked to become a superstar, written by his best friend who shared the life experiences with Sammy. No one else has written a book on Sammy Davis Jr., that I am aware of, who has actually experienced a relationship with Sammy. The book has over 300 photographs most of which are obviously from the personal photo album of the author. They give a wonderful validity to everything written in the book. People of Co lor today may be surprised to learn just how much Sammy did to make their freedoms possible. This book is an excellent read. By the way, I notice on your website that you list publisher as unknown. In fact, the publisher is Samart Enterprises, as stated in the book, the company formed by Sammy and the author and still owned by Mr. Silber.

Me and My Shadow is a story filled with all the joy, love, pain, happiness and sorrow one could possibly live in a lifetime. Being a black women and growing up in the era of racism and Jim Crow, I could feel the pain I was reading about. To color Sammy's love for another and to label humans for sharing, showing and giving their love is the demarcation line that ran through Sammy's life.
Through it all Arthur Silber gave me a glimpse of what true but sometimes complicated, unconditional love was all about.
My first thrill when I opened the book was to see all the spectacular photo's. I got a clear picture of Arthur and Sammy's life. The pictures were a treat for my eyes and it provided me with a window into their soul's.
Thank you Arthur for letting me in on the good, the bad and the ugly. Thank you for showing and telling me about Sammy's persuit of love and acceptance, in a world where being the proper color was everything and no matter how much talent Sammy had, he still was not able to walk through the front door.
To see two people share a relationship that was as close as a family member's without being blood is a true testament to Arthur and Sammy's character, in a time when being black meant, you stay on your side of the trackes.
The read was tasty, the pictures delectable and the story is Golden.

R.A. Winters is an amazing writer! No matter who you are this book is so much fun to read......one minute your laughing the next your crying. The journey of Alida (the main character) is completely engrossing I couldn't put the book down. Through R.A.'s descriptive writing you walk with Alida during her trials and conquests, you hurt when she hurts, you laugh when she laughs and most importantly you find yourself completely lost in this fantastic world that R.A. has created.

The only thing I have to complain about is...... When is the next book coming?!

When someone who is successful and has the experience to back it up shares their secrets, we should all listen. Craig Cortello shares his experience and expertise as well as his secrets of selling professional services. Even if you sell products, this book can help you be a better sales person. Every business should have exceptional customer service, something that is mostly overlooked. With Craig's book you can exceed your customers expectations, make more sales and therefore, more money.

Great Overview

Selling the Fuzzy Widget is a great overview of what is involved in selling professional services and the differences involved from selling tangible products. Selling a professional service is probably the more challenging with less material out there to guide one. This book is a very welcome addition to the field.

As a consultant I work with many alternative healthcare professionals and technical professionals who have to sell their services to others. Few are even vaguely aware of what this means and how to go about it. Selling yourself is even harder than selling a tangilbe product for most people.

In Selling the Fuzzy Widget, such professionals can find a basic primer to learn what it means to sell themselves and what they can do in an effective manner step by step. It also is full of practical tips on what not to do...which is sometimes even more essential to know!

With 30+ years experience, I still found Craig Cortello's book illuminating and interesting. I particularily like his chapter on Trade Shows. Trade shows are the hidden gem often in selling yourself and few know how to do so effectively. The advice he gives in every chapter is practical and proven to work long-term...I know because I teach it.

This is a book I will definitely recommend to my own clients and also to those who work with me in support services...eveyrone needs to know the basics...from the person answering the phones to the mail room clerk. It is a fast read and can be used to refer back to again and again.

I'm impressed.

Anyone who sells professional services or is preparing to enter that field will treasure the knowledge and finely-tuned information throughout this book.

Rather than set out to preach marketing techniques and brag about his accomplishments, the author provides you with the equivalent of a four-year marketing degree in a 160-page book, and he accomplishes this masterfully.

I found all of the examples on prospect mining, sales development, relationship building, and competitive management to be both engaging and smart. Because of my 18 years in business, I frequently nodded my head in agreement with much of the text, arranged in a 50-principal format that allows you to easily digest each lesson.

One of the most informative sections is Principle 2, which covers developing client relationships. This lesson is best read numerous times if you're not familiar with the process. But don't stop there. The other principles are equally adept.

You'll appreciate the balance between each problem, example, and solution and will consider this book as a blueprint to keep your new or current plan to sell professional services on track.

If Craig M. Cortello's book, Selling the Fuzzy Widget, is any indication, he is not the stereotypical long-winded, wear-you-down kind of salesman. He presents fifty principles in chapters of two or three pages each. The titles and subtitles of the chapters are even snappier and draw on pop culture to make their points. For example, a chapter using the Joan Rivers phrase "Can We Talk/" is about building relationships through communication and one using Yogi Berra's "Déjà vu All Over Again" is about the importance of repeated exposure to one's prospects.
Cortello refutes the myth of the born salesman. He asserts instead that people must build on the foundation of their own observations of human behavior. By using principles from experienced sales professionals, they can avoid common pitfalls and improve their skills more rapidly than they would through trial and error.
Cortello's book focuses on selling professional services but is an excellent tool for anyone who sells anything. And in this day and age of image and branding, that includes just about everyone who has any kind of job and hopes to keep it.

Doesn't Craig Cortello know that telling his secrets will hurt his success? No he doesn't because so many sales people won't use the magic in this little book that there's no problem. He knows that success comes from within, from doing what is necessary, and from doing what is right at the right time. He knows that putting down the competition is pure poison. (Why can't politicians figure this out?) He knows to be there, even in the presence of the competition and clients he doesn't represent - right now. He knows to make friends with others who surround his main contact. They will be his next contacts. He knows how to "work a convention." He knows that any sale is all about building relationships. Listen and put into practices the messages in this book. You will be a success in sales, no matter how fuzzy the widget.

Have you identified the human element of SOA within your organization? Service Oriented Enterprises provides an in-depth look at how SOAs are affecting various facets within the enterprise - both organizational AND cultural. Dr. Khoshafian has done a tremendous job making the argument that SOA is only part of the puzzle toward change and that the second major layer of SOEs, called service oriented business process integration, is key to success. I especially liked the ideas he presented on how service orientation can narrow the gap between business and IT, as I can implement some of those ideas at my company. This book will be helpful to both the IT-focused people within your organization as well as the business people who are actively trying to lead in today's service-computing world.

Race Relationships in Bruhwiler's "Simon Philipe"
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-01-24
John Bruhwiler has written an interesting novel that deals with love for the women in Simon Philipe's life, and Simon's love for horses. But what makes this tale intriguing is that Bruhwiler weaves the taboo subject of race and interracial dating into the story. Though the subject of race is certainly not new in American literature, especially Southern literature, it is not often that the venue of racism is filtered through such a self-proclaimed enlightened individual.

Perhaps Simon Philipe is merely the epitome of those contemporary middle-class Southern whites who pride themselves on being `liberals' simply because they have one or two black friends. The kind of liberals that leave their proverbial Utopian suburbia and grunge down on Beale Street or an all-black blues club because it's the cool thing to do. No one wants to be thought of as being unhip. It is not the fact of having friends of another color that places one under suspect, but the mere fact that one cannot forget or even forgive the fact that the person is of another race. Simon Philipe is obsessed with color; and what makes it a tragic case, he has no idea of his obsession. He not only notes that his kids have friends, but his kids have black friends. He arrogantly feels that he was one of those individuals who "granted" blacks equal rights, though he "...never met one he wanted to be close friends with..." (33).

Bruhwiler brilliantly uses Memphis, Tennessee as the backdrop for his novel, a city that has had a history of racial tension, and where every political decision is tattered with race and racial allegations. It is now the twenty-first century in Southern towns, and though racism might not be so blatant, Bruhwiler still takes notice of individuals who accessorize their lives with a person of another color. Sybil, Simon's love interests, has him pegged: "I don't think you're really in love with me. I'm probably just another challenge to you. Another adventure. You're intrigued because I'm black. You want to show your colleagues, your friends, your neighbors, this racist town, how progressive you are" (347). Simon admits that Sybil is probably right.

It is ironic that Simon Philipe places so much thought and emphasis on race, being an outsider himself. Perhaps he does have an outsider's eye to what is happening in Memphis and how Memphians interact with one another. No one--black or white--can explain race relationships in Southern cities, not even those who were born and bred here. Yet, Simon has the audacity to teeter on the verge of trying to single-handedly bring the races together in a patronizing effort. This won't happen. Only liberals and the upper-middle class believe that everybody is happy and content with race relations in Memphis.

Betrayed by his young partner after an adolescent sex act, the orphan Simon Philipe is brought before Sister Elisabeth, who explains the four kinds of love as understood by the ancient Greeks. John Bruhwiler's recent novel "Simon Philipe" finds its center of gravity in this compassionate scene. The kind, wise nun in small town Quebec is a loving mother figure -- the moderating feminine influence required to save Simon from descent into the self-destructive violence and sexuality of unmitigated masculinity. Sister Elisabeth also represents the best aspects of Catholicism, from which Simon develops a genuine Christian morality.

Strong tensions between male and female, Nature and society, sex and religion underly the novel's themes and permeate the adventures and characters of "Simon Philipe". During his first 30 years, covered in flashbacks, Simon's life follows a series of arcs through the violence, danger and sexuality of masculine life in rural Canada, the far North, urban ghettos and the north-central US plains. Each arc, extending further than the last, brings him back to the relative safety of Sister Elisabeth or, after her death, the temporary comfort of a woman's arms, the last of these belonging to his wife, Ellen.

Attending university leads to an appreciation of French literature, offering Simon an intellectual outlet for his energies and the hope of escaping from his troubled past. The novel's present tense takes place in Memphis of the 1970's, where Simon is now a divorced professor at a small college, with partial responsibility for three teenage children. Bruhwiler's engaging story deftly weaves the visceral flashbacks into the present day action. However, it is Simon's love of horses, a passion that defines him to a greater extent than career or family, which fully integrates past and present.

Simon's horses provide an essential connection to the unforgiving Nature of his youth. They bring vitality, joy and danger into his life. Bruhwiler's prose reaches great heights in the many horse scenes -- evoking the poetic energy of these mysterious creatures, while remaining grounded in realism and a straightforward honesty that delivers the excitement and pain to the reader, unfiltered.

This same honesty benefits the rest of the novel. Race and racism are seen from Simon's point of view, without regard for modern sensitivities. Many female characters are also introduced from Simon's point of view, with lustful attention to their physical appearance. In every case, characters are allowed to speak for themselves in dialogue that rings true. Likewise, Simon's flaws and virtues are allowed to reveal themselves throughout the story.

"Simon Philipe" provides the reader no easy answers, but like all great tales, it unfolds a compelling plot with interesting characters and pulls important themes effortlessly from the darkness into the reader's view. Still suffering from his divorce, engaging in dysfunctional behavior and enduring new troubles that echo his turbulent youth, Simon finds his life following yet another arc. This arc may never close, but it is converging hopefully towards his new love, Sybil.

John Bruhwiler, in his 400-page novel, reveals a title character who is so deliciously flawed that the reader receives a wondrous tutorial in tenacity in addition to the transforming story. The story is beautifully woven with the past and the present, with creatures and humans, and with a slow pace, ending in a furious rush of hooves and relationships. Readers will love the way Simon continually makes mistakes with everyone from nuns to trappers. Every time Simon gets beaten up physically and emotionally, the reader gains another opportunity from the author to urge him to get up to try another day. We never tire of shaking our heads about Simon's inabilities to see himself alone and separated in a world that is predictably unstable (no pun intended). Bruhwiler gives us a hero whose innocence and transcendence are immersed in a writing style that clearly shows a love of horses, women, children, and all things on the earth that urgently struggle with pain and possibility. This is a great read for everyone who understands horses, loves travel and Memphis, and yearns for some answers about relationships. Book clubs will find great fodder (pun intended) for discussion.

Simon Philipe

This first novel has many of the best qualities of a good memoir. It's readable in two ways-- generous margins and type size, plus a fast-paced narrative that's hard to put down. Even if you don't ride horses, you will enjoy the sensations of sitting higher, moving faster, and leaping over things with ease-- and with a bit of risk. Socially, Simon's horses help him raise his kids, gather with like minded friends, and court a new woman.

We learn in flashback that Simon is an orphan, left in a cardboard box on the doorstep of a nunnery in Canada. Sister Elizabeth, his early mentor, is really the most important woman in his life. His early life ranges from Toronto to Hudson's Bay, Detroit to New Mexico. As a boy Simon gets beaten up a few times, then enjoys a few liaisons before marriage. He grows up to be a college professor in Memphis, teaching French and keeping horses. He loves horses and women. If your book group includes both women and men, you will find no shortage of things to talk about.

When his wife Ellen wants him out of the house, he becomes a single father caring for two boys and a girl. The anguish of a sudden divorce is rendered in convincing emotional detail, and so is Simon's loneliness that follows. He meets Sybil, a younger woman of a different race, at a Catholic bible study group he is leading in the midtown home of a friend. And then. . . .

SIMON PHILIPE is a literary novel-- no formulas, no detectives or murders-- but a vivid evocation of a time and place as a very human story unfolds. Recommended especially for Southern progressive church folks; a must read for Memphians and horse lovers. You'll be glad you read it, and you'll tell your friends.

The Sober Enterprise originally began as an advanced recovery plan I was writing for myself. After trying conventional means of treatment including rehabilitation centers, detox clinics, methadone, and various doctors, I found myself still slowly dying from a full blown heroin addiction. I had lost almost everything I loved and decided to give recovery one more try after realizing that death & prison were all that awaited me. I abandoned everything I had been told about addiction & recovery, and began an intense process of re-educating and reinventing my self. Along the way, I completely redefined addiction as essentially an identity crisis of immense proportions, discovered methods for reconnecting with one's own authentic conscience, and even realized the key to curing anyone of substance abuse through further development of recovery skills taken from various institutions accross the country and merging these with my own newly invented tools for permanently defeating any form of chemical dependency. Slowly but surely, a dazzling journey of self-discovery and a virtual textbook manual for understanding the cure to drug addiction emerged out of this personal recovery plan, one that placed great emphasis on self-reliance and making this lifelong cure customizable to anyone suffering from this horrible affliction. I can actually say with certainty that this book saved my life. Furthermore, I believe it has the potential to save many more lives as well as revolutionalize conventional methods for drug addiction treatment forever. For I now live comfortably & happily, free from drug addiction, without suffering any relapses or implulses to use, and without having to attend anonymous groups. I feel very lucky and grateful to be alive, and thank the Lord everyday for helping me write this powerful book.

I love this book! As a licensed professional counselor I am floored by Sweeney's clear understanding of the underlying issues regarding addiction, the eloquence of his writing, and his clear, step by step plan for recovery. The Sober Enterprise is a shining example of the power of words to motivate others and change lives. If you are ready to slay the dragon of addiction, Mr Sweeney is ready to show you how and will be there every step of the way, page after page, cheering you on, bravely baring his soul in a genuine effort to help others. If you are effected by any type of addiction, whether your own or a loved one's, I urge you to buy this book. I have no doubt that this book will save lives! Bravo, Mr Sweeney...you are a gifted writer and the world is a better place because you and your book are in it!

WOW! What a book. As the parent of a 28 year who has been addicted for over 10 years this is the first book that really touched my mind and my heart. It not only describes what an addict does when addicted but how they may have gotten there. Then it goes on to teach an addict how to work their way out of the morass.
As a parent having attended Hazelden and many other rehabs family programs this book is certainly an adjunct to their modalities. It is a must read for all family members who are being affected by addiction of another family member. The sooner you read this book the better you will understand how an addict thinks and operates and it will enable you to not only cope with the problem but be armed with the hope and courage to do something positive for yourself and you addicted loved one!!! Not only is this book totally original, thought provoking, and uniquely interactive, this book actually has the potential to save lives! Finally a book exists that's written for people struggling with addiction or alcoholism, who've been alienated from anonymous groups and are sick of going to rehabs. There are so many penetrating exercises throughout that by the end you not only know the author better than his own mother probably does, you know more about yourself than ever before. Brilliantly clear and deceptively simple, this book transcends the topic of sobriety altogether and ventures forth into the realm of humam potential. Two major thumbs up and 5 stars on top!

This is a great step-by-step book for the SolidWorks user who is a beginner. I've been using SolidWorks for approximately three months. The book provides a solid foundation and a straight forward logical procedure to follow. The enclosed CD-ROM is priceless. The CD provides a solid foundation to learn the fundamentals of SolidWorks. Read, watch, learn, and do. Great book.

Im new to Solidworks, and after going through the book, I feel pretty comfortable using the software. In the exercises the book covers, you build various parts and sub-assemblies. At the end of the book, you put it all together and end up with the assembly shown on the cover of the book. So basically, you'll be able to do that when you're done with the tutorial. Nice book, I only wish it covered Importing from AutoCAD. It completely ignores the subject. Other than that, I was happy with it.

Look no further for a great SolidWorks Book

I`m a Mechanical Design Engineer by profession. I have over 20 years in the CAD industry primarily with AutoCAD, SDRC, and Pro/E, and the last three years using SolidWorks. SolidWorks, by far is the most intuitive 3D CAD package out there today!

A few years ago, I decided to leave industry, and I now teach at a mid size college in Texas. I teach four freshmen sections of SolidWorks, along with evening and weekend SolidWorks classes.

I, like many instructors who are teaching a software class review numerous books, for potential classroom text and lecture notes. Last year, my local VAR recommended the SolidWorks Tutorial book by Planchard & Planchard. The book provides an excellent foundation in a timely step-by-step procedure with numerous illustrations to clearly enforce the chapter desire outcomes and objectives.

The book is suited well for a classroom / learning environment. It is also great as a self learning tool either for a student or an adult. The material is clearly presented, in a very logical manner. It starts with the SolidWorks Interface, moves to 2D sketches, and then progresses to 3D features: Extruded Boss/Base, Extruded Cut, Extruded Revolved, Loft, Swept, etc. The features are then applied to build parts, assemblies, and drawings.

Part, assembly, and drawing fundamentals and foundations are addressed. This is a great book for the beginner in SolidWorks.

I like the book, but I wish not all of the versions of this book are the same because this same book written in 2005-2008 have the same exact projects with only small changes for the version. I do think it is a good book to get students prepared for larger scaled projects.

This book was published too soon to contain any details from THE SWORD OF KHALESS (DS9), TRIALS AND TRIBBLE-ATIONS (DS9), FLASHBACK (VOYAGER), & the FIRST CONTACT film. Otherwise, it's a great book with alternate titles and references to all of the classic & cartoon episodes and films

For those of you who liked the original "Fan Produced" edition and/or the 1977 professionally produced one, YOU ARE GONNA LOVE THIS ONE! BJO has completely revised the book, not only including info from the moveis, but also info about both the live-action and annimated seriese from Gene Roddenberrys and others files that she did not have access to before. The book has got to have at least 10 times the info in the 1977 edition and she has also corrected the errors that cropped up in the older editions and added a lot more "fan art" than before. I can not emphasise this enough! This is a must have for all trekkies. Even Gene Goddenberry himself use the oleder version of this book to keep track of his universe. The star trek Encycolpedia pales in comparison to detali to this one. so if you love your Classic Trek, order it now.

NUMBER ONE ITEM FOR ANY STAR TREK LIBRARY

When Bjo Trimble did her first CONCORDANCE in the 1970's it was FANTASTIC,a really good book that covered everything at that time. Now,with the final STAR TREK film done, there is the closing out of the great STAR TREK era and this book covers it very well. There are other good STAR TREK history books, but this is one that stands out. This is a NEEDED part of ANY STAR TREK collection,a well done job.

Great book for the Star Trek fan...

...but be aware that this book is from 1976, so you will only get information on the original series from the 1960s and the often neglected (but often bizarre) animated series from 1973-74. So you won't find any info on any of the movies (since the first Star Trek movie wouldn't be until 1979), The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, or Voyager. This is basically those who enjoy the original and the animated Star Trek. The 1976 version of Star Trek Concordance came with a gimmick cover, which you use as an index for each episode, stardate, and other things, and it guides you to what page the episode and stardate are. In the book itself is a description of each and every episode, both the original and the animateds. Description of the cast members are also given in every episode. Near the back is a glossary giving details to each and every character such as Spock, Dr. McCoy, Kirk, Sulu, Uhura, Scotty, etc. (and who played them, like Shatner, Nimoy, Takei, Doohan, etc.), as well as discriptions of various alien life like Vulcans, Romulans, Klingons, etc. The glossary even goes as so far as describing terms that might be a bit over some people's head. They even mention haggis, since there was a famous episode where Scotty said, "The haggis is in the fire now". In the very back is Star Trek fan art, where various people submitted their own artwork of different Star Trek characters and aliens. It's a great and useful book, if you bear in mind when this was published. If you're looking for info on the Star Trek movies, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager, you will obviously need much more updated material.
