A good study guideReview Date: 2006-04-11
When used with a multitude of other books it will obviously take a lot more time to get through all of the books in entirity.
this book in particular is a bire more of a review over many things you may already know. So I wouldn't necessarily reccomend this as the first book you begin study with.
I found this to be very informative and helpful. Every chapter is like a review and it is followed by a series of quizzes.
But if this is one of the books you are using to study (keep in mind studying for more than 20 minutes at a time is considered cramming and you absorb less of what you read) you may just possibly want to begin studying sooner than I had.
This, is no small book. You need a very fair amount of time to properly read through then review all you should have learned by books end.
the only text you'll need =)Review Date: 2007-05-03
Highly recommend!!!

A gift to the planetReview Date: 2002-10-21
The lesson which I found to be most insightful is that on 'The Gifts of The Seven Sacred Awakenings'. This gives an overview of the spiritual journey from the first faint rememberance that we are all here with a purpose, to the knowing that we are already enlightened beings, radiating love, connected to all that is and embodying this truth in every moment. It has been a source of guidance to be able to recognise as I experience the early stages of awakening in myself.
The lessons in this book resonate as profound truths and I sense that this text will play a vital role in the expansion of conscious awareness which is happening on the planet right now.

Beautifully writtenReview Date: 2002-09-13
I gave it 4 stars due to the context of the channeling. Sometimes it is a bit repetitious, but in the end, its a beautiful book. Its more of a spiritual awareness book. I can't comment more on this, since every one is different, and everyone's path is different, but with this book, it will let you be aware of whom you are and what's for you ahead.

Forever joined by loveReview Date: 2003-10-04
Through it all Arthur Silber gave me a glimpse of what true but sometimes complicated, unconditional love was all about.
My first thrill when I opened the book was to see all the spectacular photo's. I got a clear picture of Arthur and Sammy's life. The pictures were a treat for my eyes and it provided me with a window into their soul's.
Thank you Arthur for letting me in on the good, the bad and the ugly. Thank you for showing and telling me about Sammy's persuit of love and acceptance, in a world where being the proper color was everything and no matter how much talent Sammy had, he still was not able to walk through the front door.
To see two people share a relationship that was as close as a family member's without being blood is a true testament to Arthur and Sammy's character, in a time when being black meant, you stay on your side of the trackes.
The read was tasty, the pictures delectable and the story is Golden.

Great OverviewReview Date: 2008-08-08
As a consultant I work with many alternative healthcare professionals and technical professionals who have to sell their services to others. Few are even vaguely aware of what this means and how to go about it. Selling yourself is even harder than selling a tangilbe product for most people.
In Selling the Fuzzy Widget, such professionals can find a basic primer to learn what it means to sell themselves and what they can do in an effective manner step by step. It also is full of practical tips on what not to do...which is sometimes even more essential to know!
With 30+ years experience, I still found Craig Cortello's book illuminating and interesting. I particularily like his chapter on Trade Shows. Trade shows are the hidden gem often in selling yourself and few know how to do so effectively. The advice he gives in every chapter is practical and proven to work long-term...I know because I teach it.
This is a book I will definitely recommend to my own clients and also to those who work with me in support services...eveyrone needs to know the basics...from the person answering the phones to the mail room clerk. It is a fast read and can be used to refer back to again and again.
I'm impressed.
A Winning Plan to Succeed, No Matter What Your ProfessionReview Date: 2008-08-04
Rather than set out to preach marketing techniques and brag about his accomplishments, the author provides you with the equivalent of a four-year marketing degree in a 160-page book, and he accomplishes this masterfully.
I found all of the examples on prospect mining, sales development, relationship building, and competitive management to be both engaging and smart. Because of my 18 years in business, I frequently nodded my head in agreement with much of the text, arranged in a 50-principal format that allows you to easily digest each lesson.
One of the most informative sections is Principle 2, which covers developing client relationships. This lesson is best read numerous times if you're not familiar with the process. But don't stop there. The other principles are equally adept.
You'll appreciate the balance between each problem, example, and solution and will consider this book as a blueprint to keep your new or current plan to sell professional services on track.

Concise sales pointersReview Date: 2008-07-26
Cortello refutes the myth of the born salesman. He asserts instead that people must build on the foundation of their own observations of human behavior. By using principles from experienced sales professionals, they can avoid common pitfalls and improve their skills more rapidly than they would through trial and error.
Cortello's book focuses on selling professional services but is an excellent tool for anyone who sells anything. And in this day and age of image and branding, that includes just about everyone who has any kind of job and hopes to keep it.
They're All Fuzzy WidgetsReview Date: 2008-07-24
Doesn't Craig Cortello know that telling his secrets will hurt his success? No he doesn't because so many sales people won't use the magic in this little book that there's no problem. He knows that success comes from within, from doing what is necessary, and from doing what is right at the right time. He knows that putting down the competition is pure poison. (Why can't politicians figure this out?) He knows to be there, even in the presence of the competition and clients he doesn't represent - right now. He knows to make friends with others who surround his main contact. They will be his next contacts. He knows how to "work a convention." He knows that any sale is all about building relationships. Listen and put into practices the messages in this book. You will be a success in sales, no matter how fuzzy the widget.

Race Relationships in Bruhwiler's "Simon Philipe"Review Date: 2007-01-24
Perhaps Simon Philipe is merely the epitome of those contemporary middle-class Southern whites who pride themselves on being `liberals' simply because they have one or two black friends. The kind of liberals that leave their proverbial Utopian suburbia and grunge down on Beale Street or an all-black blues club because it's the cool thing to do. No one wants to be thought of as being unhip. It is not the fact of having friends of another color that places one under suspect, but the mere fact that one cannot forget or even forgive the fact that the person is of another race. Simon Philipe is obsessed with color; and what makes it a tragic case, he has no idea of his obsession. He not only notes that his kids have friends, but his kids have black friends. He arrogantly feels that he was one of those individuals who "granted" blacks equal rights, though he "...never met one he wanted to be close friends with..." (33).
Bruhwiler brilliantly uses Memphis, Tennessee as the backdrop for his novel, a city that has had a history of racial tension, and where every political decision is tattered with race and racial allegations. It is now the twenty-first century in Southern towns, and though racism might not be so blatant, Bruhwiler still takes notice of individuals who accessorize their lives with a person of another color. Sybil, Simon's love interests, has him pegged: "I don't think you're really in love with me. I'm probably just another challenge to you. Another adventure. You're intrigued because I'm black. You want to show your colleagues, your friends, your neighbors, this racist town, how progressive you are" (347). Simon admits that Sybil is probably right.
It is ironic that Simon Philipe places so much thought and emphasis on race, being an outsider himself. Perhaps he does have an outsider's eye to what is happening in Memphis and how Memphians interact with one another. No one--black or white--can explain race relationships in Southern cities, not even those who were born and bred here. Yet, Simon has the audacity to teeter on the verge of trying to single-handedly bring the races together in a patronizing effort. This won't happen. Only liberals and the upper-middle class believe that everybody is happy and content with race relations in Memphis.
A powerful storyReview Date: 2006-07-09
Strong tensions between male and female, Nature and society, sex and religion underly the novel's themes and permeate the adventures and characters of "Simon Philipe". During his first 30 years, covered in flashbacks, Simon's life follows a series of arcs through the violence, danger and sexuality of masculine life in rural Canada, the far North, urban ghettos and the north-central US plains. Each arc, extending further than the last, brings him back to the relative safety of Sister Elisabeth or, after her death, the temporary comfort of a woman's arms, the last of these belonging to his wife, Ellen.
Attending university leads to an appreciation of French literature, offering Simon an intellectual outlet for his energies and the hope of escaping from his troubled past. The novel's present tense takes place in Memphis of the 1970's, where Simon is now a divorced professor at a small college, with partial responsibility for three teenage children. Bruhwiler's engaging story deftly weaves the visceral flashbacks into the present day action. However, it is Simon's love of horses, a passion that defines him to a greater extent than career or family, which fully integrates past and present.
Simon's horses provide an essential connection to the unforgiving Nature of his youth. They bring vitality, joy and danger into his life. Bruhwiler's prose reaches great heights in the many horse scenes -- evoking the poetic energy of these mysterious creatures, while remaining grounded in realism and a straightforward honesty that delivers the excitement and pain to the reader, unfiltered.
This same honesty benefits the rest of the novel. Race and racism are seen from Simon's point of view, without regard for modern sensitivities. Many female characters are also introduced from Simon's point of view, with lustful attention to their physical appearance. In every case, characters are allowed to speak for themselves in dialogue that rings true. Likewise, Simon's flaws and virtues are allowed to reveal themselves throughout the story.
"Simon Philipe" provides the reader no easy answers, but like all great tales, it unfolds a compelling plot with interesting characters and pulls important themes effortlessly from the darkness into the reader's view. Still suffering from his divorce, engaging in dysfunctional behavior and enduring new troubles that echo his turbulent youth, Simon finds his life following yet another arc. This arc may never close, but it is converging hopefully towards his new love, Sybil.

Simon Philipe-- don't miss itReview Date: 2006-03-26
This first novel has many of the best qualities of a good memoir. It's readable in two ways-- generous margins and type size, plus a fast-paced narrative that's hard to put down. Even if you don't ride horses, you will enjoy the sensations of sitting higher, moving faster, and leaping over things with ease-- and with a bit of risk. Socially, Simon's horses help him raise his kids, gather with like minded friends, and court a new woman.
We learn in flashback that Simon is an orphan, left in a cardboard box on the doorstep of a nunnery in Canada. Sister Elizabeth, his early mentor, is really the most important woman in his life. His early life ranges from Toronto to Hudson's Bay, Detroit to New Mexico. As a boy Simon gets beaten up a few times, then enjoys a few liaisons before marriage. He grows up to be a college professor in Memphis, teaching French and keeping horses. He loves horses and women. If your book group includes both women and men, you will find no shortage of things to talk about.
When his wife Ellen wants him out of the house, he becomes a single father caring for two boys and a girl. The anguish of a sudden divorce is rendered in convincing emotional detail, and so is Simon's loneliness that follows. He meets Sybil, a younger woman of a different race, at a Catholic bible study group he is leading in the midtown home of a friend. And then. . . .
SIMON PHILIPE is a literary novel-- no formulas, no detectives or murders-- but a vivid evocation of a time and place as a very human story unfolds. Recommended especially for Southern progressive church folks; a must read for Memphians and horse lovers. You'll be glad you read it, and you'll tell your friends.

Look no further for a great SolidWorks BookReview Date: 2007-04-10
A few years ago, I decided to leave industry, and I now teach at a mid size college in Texas. I teach four freshmen sections of SolidWorks, along with evening and weekend SolidWorks classes.
I, like many instructors who are teaching a software class review numerous books, for potential classroom text and lecture notes. Last year, my local VAR recommended the SolidWorks Tutorial book by Planchard & Planchard. The book provides an excellent foundation in a timely step-by-step procedure with numerous illustrations to clearly enforce the chapter desire outcomes and objectives.
The book is suited well for a classroom / learning environment. It is also great as a self learning tool either for a student or an adult. The material is clearly presented, in a very logical manner. It starts with the SolidWorks Interface, moves to 2D sketches, and then progresses to 3D features: Extruded Boss/Base, Extruded Cut, Extruded Revolved, Loft, Swept, etc. The features are then applied to build parts, assemblies, and drawings.
Part, assembly, and drawing fundamentals and foundations are addressed. This is a great book for the beginner in SolidWorks.
