Reynolds begins by defining what Wi-Fi really is. She then goes on to explain the benefits of Wi-Fi with regards to its freedom and mobility. According to Reynolds, "Wi-Fi use is experiencing an explosive growth." She maintains that the "successful, long-term development of the Wi-Fi industry is contingent upon the availability of spectrum for its expansion." Next, the author covers signal modulation, whereby data is superimposed on or encoded onto a carrier signal wave by means of a process, which is referred to as modulation. Then, she explains why and how all of this is happening; and, how important it is to understand a bit about Wi-Fi's technology, its standards, history, and even its future. Next, the author explains why wireless LAN's foundation is built upon wired technology. Then, Reynolds examines why WLAN deployments are growing by leaps and bounds. Next, she looks at wirelessly bridging, through the use of Wi-Fi technology to provide a perfect way to connect two buildings. Then, the author gives you a valuable insight and practical knowledge of the different aspects of wireless networking technology, some general issues that each Wi-Fi flavor presents, and awareness of specific problems that may arise during implementation of the various Wi-Fi technologies. Next, Reynolds looks at how the WISP industry encompasses all businesses (for-profit and non-profit) that operate under new, although varied, business models with a common theme: providing publicly available Internet access via Wi-Fi technology. Then, she will help you determine what is best for your wireless networking environment. Next, the author provides a quick tutorial on antennae in a WLAN environment. Finally, Reynolds looks at Wi-Fi's open future.
With the preceding in mind, the author does an excellent job of making Wi-Fi an outstanding candidate for building out mainstream data networks not only in the developed world, but also in emerging markets, such as Africa, India, and China, where cost is a very important factor. Finally, with a Wi-Fi-enabled wireless infrastructure serving as the cornerstone, it is now possible for many areas of the world to leapfrog over more developed nations into a high-speed environment.
Everything You Want to Know!Review Date: 2006-02-12
I've researched quite a few books and while many offer insights into Wi-Fi, this is finally a book that offers the depth and coverage that I need.
The book covers the entire spectrum of information (pardon the pun) from the history of Wi-Fi down to the gritty details of just what a radio signal looks like, how antennae function, the nuts and bolts of the various standards, and what it really takes to roll out a secured hotspot for the home, the local café, or the business enterprise.
I especially enjoyed the insights into the entrepreneurial aspects of Wi-Fi. The book covers various business models, how the market was segmented at the time of writing, and who the players were.
The only drawback is that as a hot technology, the landscape is changing quickly. I did find that the book was dated in several areas just because it is already a few years old, and the market is changing quickly.
I do consider this a must-have on the shelf of anyone who either works with Wi-Fi or is managing projects that involve Wi-Fi, and especially those companies tapping into delivery of Wi-Fi solutions as a business model.

User Manual and a Little ExtraReview Date: 2008-06-09
This Google apps book has more of a user focus and a bit more hand-holding than other Google app books I have taken a look at lately. (Google Apps Hacks)
The 13 chapters are divided into 4 parts:
1) Setting up with Google and using the word processing, spreadsheet and presentation creation software.
2) Using Google e-mail, communication and calendar applications.
3) Customizing the Google home page and creating Web pages without HTML knowledge with the new Page Creator.
4) Using Google applications within organizations. This last section went into administering users and facilitating team collaboration. This was interesting and something I had not seen in other books.
This "Missing Manual" is pretty thorough and has a good index. If your goal is to *use* Google applications (rather than program them), this book is an excellent reference and guide.

This book WOULD have been an easy 5 stars but the lack of color really hurts this release, so much so I dropped a star off. I don't understand why some books that need color are denied this at pre-release time while other books that don't need it get the full treatment.
Great book, just could have been even THAT much better.

Great for a business professional.Review Date: 2005-01-04
Work as to the Lord, wherever you are.Review Date: 2007-02-12
This book explores the connection between the current trend of globalization of the world economy, and the methods used to evangelize and disciple people of other cultures. The main theme of the book is the role that business plays in the emerging global economy and the changing face of international missions. "Not long ago many people viewed the term "Christian businessman (or woman) as an oxymoron." (p7). The authors explore this fallacy and develop their argument that business is an important method to further the kingdom of God in today's world. "Globalization is helping to undo the modern dichotomy between spiritual and worldly professions, in part by bringing businesses of all sizes into countries that are in desperate spiritual and economic need."(6).
The authors do not attempt to say that all Christians are mandated to drop everything and start an international company. The point made is that the choices we make are having an impact on the world regardless of whether we pay attention to them or not. We can use these choices to leverage the current climate to allow more people to hear and understand the gospel as well as help heal the inequalities that are facilitated by our current economic system. The book asserts the "...biblical legitimacy of free market economics and the positive impact Christians can have in the market place." They argue that "...business itself is a calling, that the marketplace is a legitimate mission field and indeed is a place that needs Christians who will stem the corrosive economic effects of an unchecked sin nature." (7).
A fallacy of spiritual hierarchy is deconstructed in this book. This unwritten, unspoken fallacy is that those who are truly serious about their commitment to Christ will get special training, change careers, and become professional Christian workers. The authors argue that those who are truly effective at ministering Christ's love and forgiveness are those who are open to being used by God wherever they are and how faithful they are in those varied places.
A secondary theme of the book is related to the first. While arguing for business as a valid means to fulfilling the Great Commission, the authors denounce other ways that `tentmaking' has been applied to business and missions. Here they refer to the practice of using a business only as a cover or platform to gain access or entry to a closed country. A phantom company which does not actually conduct business or only enough business to appear legitimate is the exact opposite of what the authors are proposing. A business used as only a platform in this way is not only unethical, but will be transparent to the nationals as well. The book acknowledges that balancing the business and ministry components of this type of company is not easy. However, they would much rather a company act in excellence and integrity in the conduct of their business. "Combining business and missions is not easy, and it creates a tension that does not exist when the activities are pursued separately. But the fact that it is difficult is not a valid reason for not trying." (7)
The case studies given spend a lot of time recalling the personal and spiritual background of the founders of the companies profiled. The authors explain that this is because, according to their research, the most important factor determining the success or failure of a Great Commission Company is the people involved. While business experience is an important factor and extremely valuable, an attitude of excellence and flexibility along with spiritual discipline and a desire to see the kingdom of God advanced are more important. These case studies proved to be the most enjoyable part of the book.
The experience and wisdom gained in their research has led the authors to propose some guidelines for evaluating the viability of both the business and missional aspects of a potential company. This helps readers look at the practical aspects of successful Great Commission Companies. Some of the most important aspects are: Teams (preferably intercultural), Accountability, Intentionality, and Integrity. (see chapters five, six, and twelve).
Criticism that I have for the book has to do with assumptions about international business and economics. I wish the authors would have expanded their thoughts more on the idea presented in a quote by Larry Reed regarding responsible stewardship of resources. "Christians today earn about one-quarter of all the income in the world. Thus, any effort to correct the ills of our current system must begin with a look at how we acquire this income and how we use it." (193). Christians should be concerned about the industry that their business or purchasing patterns contribute to. Another issue that struck me as potentially difficult to readers was the incredible drive displayed by all of the individuals profiled in the case studies. I can see where after being encouraged by the first section of the book, some may be dismayed to imitate what seems exceptional people and circumstances. These individuals display passion for their vision, and we are reminded that it is not our circumstances that shape who we are, but rather our response to those circumstances.
On the positive side, the authors state their views and biases up front and go on to argue their case for business being a legitimate method of being a faithful disciple of Christ. The book is easy to read and accessible to those even without business experience. Questions for review and further thought were included at the end of most chapters. Overall, I feel that this is a valuable book for gaining an introduction to the changing climate of world missions.
This book could be an important resource to help Christians explore the place they have living in God's Kingdom and playing their part in seeing that kingdom ushered in more fully.

Steve Rundle and Tom Steffen avoid both traps by providing well thought through theory combined with case studies that show that theory in action. They really provide the reader with a diverse set of examples of people working hard and moving God's kingdom forward at the same time. This deserves to be widely read.

A classical of marxian economic thoughtReview Date: 2000-04-20
Critical ReadingReview Date: 2000-04-28
Also, Grundrisse starts in a different place from Capital. There is a reason for this, and a good discussion of this can be found in the writing of Raya Dunayevskaya and a counter discussion can be found in Roman Rosdolsky. The choice to eventually shelve the organization of the Grundrisse for the organization of Capital flows in part from the changes in the intervening years, most notably the U.S. Civil War.
Real life constantly shaped Marx's thinking, hardly fitting the representation we commonly get of him from ideologues and capital's priests (economists). As a result, Grundrisse also has serious limitations in its understanding of the logic of capital. Basing the entire understanding of Marxism and capital on Grundrisse leads to the kind of mistakes made by Italian Autononmist Marxism, esp. Antonio Negri, who find themselves engaged in a very subjectivist understanding of capitalism. A useful, but sympathetic, antidote can be found in Werner Bonefeld and John Holloway's writings.

Bolling has proven herself worthy of writing a series with such strong literary contributions from her characters. The plots are superbly weaved together, just enough to keep you flying through the pages to see what happens next! Kudos to the author and I look forward to reading her next installment in the Heart Series!

An Amazing LoveReview Date: 2008-12-06
Iris Bolling does not disappoint as she weaves an intriguing story of romance, politics, secrets, and lies. I found myself submerged in Ashley and James' story. After a year of dating the couple realize they are very much in love. Once this declaration of love is acknowledged and marriage is their destiny, old grudges and vindictive plots are set into motion to destroy Ashley and James' happiness. I found myself despising the villians and cheering for this couple as I became engrossed in this story. Ms. Bolling also does a wonderful job introducing us to a new cast of characters and family secrets that will have you stunned beyond believe.
If you're looking for an enjoyable read I recommend The Heart of Him.

Romance You Will Enjoy Review Date: 2008-12-03
The Heart of Him, Iris Bolling's sophomore novel, picks up where her last novel ended. The first time Ashley Harrison saw James Brooks, she knew that he was the man she was destined to spend the rest of her life with. He was tall, handsome, smart and funny. He was also ten years older with a very guarded past. James agreed to be the campaign manager for Ashley's brother, JD Harrison. James admitted that there was something that attracted him to Ashley and he simply could not stay away from her. But making her a part of his life meant that he had to make amends with his past. As their relationship grew, secrets from their past began to surface and threatened their relationship. It was also a threat to JD's campaign and political future.
Bolling's story was very intriguing and fun to read. She was able to introduce two characters that were likeable and realistic. I also enjoyed the campaign strategies as James prepared to run for office, very much reminiscent of this year's presidential campaign. Bolling answered questions from her first book and left room for additional stories. Fans of Bolling will enjoy this one as much as her first book.

Even wonder what all those words on food and product labels mean and I don't mean just counting calories or carbohydrates. Well now you will be able to speak this new foreign language. In Holler for Your Health: Be the Key to a Healthy Family, you will not only know what you are reading but also what your food is actually made of. You will never look at a label the same way again. I was aware of some of the topics discussed in this book but there was still a lot that I was surprised to discover that I didn't know. You can bet I will put what I learned about to good use in my every day life.
