Scott was a compatriot of mine in the California school system, and I learned first hand what a meticutlous researcher, and to-the-point writer, he is. Buy this book. It is a gold mine of information and very well written (and I can say this because I am his "English" buddy from WMS).

Scott did a very good job bringing out the Americans whom we would normally not know anywhere else. The characters, history and places kept me on this one. A fun and interesting book I am glad to share.

Mr Baron presents facts on hundreds of famous Americans in a fast paced and enjoyable manner. He puts each veterans service within a historical context, and the pictures alone are worth the price of admission.

If there is a criticism, it is that the book goes too fast. Lets hope that there is a volume two. A really fun and educational look at the military life of celebrities.

From Abbott, Bud---longtime screen comic---to Zanuck, Darryl---famed film producer and writer--here are reports on what the famous and infamous did in the service. Written interestingly, succicently, to-the-point no padding briefs of 500+ people you have heard of and admired. This IS a book that's hard to put down, hard to stop reading until you've checked every entry. Enjoy! (You WILL!)

If you train, be it for a goal race or a charity run, then you, like me need motivation to keep going forward. We all need tried and true tips to change things up, this book is full of those. Nobody can or should run everyday, so why not hit the gym on off days? we all need something different and we all need to stay injury free, a different sport, something to cross train with and something to challenge us beyond where we are. Time off keeps the injuries at bay, extra training and working the muscles does too. This book offers examples (through word and picture and charts) of different training exercises for in season and off. It is filled with suggestions on how to mix different exercises up, I love and you will too!

My husband has motivation to workout everyday and requested a book for Christmas that would help him get faster running and do the right kind of weights before a race and when he is not in the race mode and this book was an answer to his prayers because it has all the right formulas for what he was looking for. EXCELLENT BOOK!!!

I'm a multi sport athlete who trains all year round regardless of what sport I play. I bought a few of these Ultimate Guide to Weight Training books, and they definitely helped me train specifically for the different sports that I play. Then about a year later I received an email from amazon that there was a new edition out. These upgraded editions are even better than the originals, with more articles and a lot more sport-specific information. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who plays a lot of sports or wants to specifically focus on training for one sport in particular.

Every swimmer knows that strength and conditioning is everything. The stronger and better conditioned you are, the better swimmer you will be. That's why i bought this book, and it did exactly that. It improves your strength, conditioning, stamina, and endurance, and reduces injuries too. The weight training programs in this book hit the nail right on the head for what I was looking for - a swimming specific workout.

This is the third in a series of books the author has written. While some of the concepts in e-commmerce are outdated due to the dotcom crash, the architectures, data management and functional aspects are still useful for e-business and e-commerce. The author discusses many of the challenges in managing databases on the web and shows the need for this technology for web data management.

This is an excellent book on e-commerce and databases. However it is somewhat outdated as the book was presumably written during the dotcom boom. Nevertheless many of the ideas are still very useful. I would suggest that the author updates this book to reflect the recent developments.

Very broad but useful book

Review Date: 2002-11-23
The book covers a great deal and provdes a broad overview of web data management and e-commerce. It starts with a lot of background material on database systems, the web, data mining, etc. and then focuses on web data management technologies in Part II. Finally it describes how the technologies may be used for e-commerce. I like the writing style of the author, rather casual and takes a building block approach. He sort of tells a story about supporting technologies, web technologies and e-commerce. My one concern is that the book was written during the dotcom boom years. While the technologies are all still valid and useful, although they have advanced quite a lot today, the idea that the web and e-commerce will take over is long gone. At one time we may have thought that we will be doing all of our shopping even buying groceries on the web. But this has still not happened in large scale. Therefore, it may be time to take another look at the ideas and perhaps get another edition out reflecting what is real today. But then one never knows what the future will be. Maybe once the technologies mature and our approach to the web evolves, the dotcom ideas may take off again.

One of the first and best in the field

I found this book extremely useful. The author starts with some excellent background material on web data management and then goes into more details on architectures and models for web databases. Finally, she discusses their applications to e-commerce. At times I thought the book was too detailed (e.g., in data management) and at other times I felt that the book ought to have given more details (e.g. in e-commerce). Nevertheless the book emphasizes on web data management and all aspects of this topic. It was very easy to read and as a newcomer to the field I found it very thought provoking. I thought the author explained the security aspects extremely well, partly because she is an expert in database secruity. At times she dwelt more than it was necessary on security as the focus of the book was not on security. I would have liked to have seen more discussions on how specific organizations carry out e-commerce. Since the field is evolving so rapidly I would love to see a follow-on book giving details and examples on e-commerce and the applications of web data management to e-commerce. On the whole an excellent, easy to read book.

I had the privilege of teaching 30 years ago in the same Eskimo village that is central to this story, Selawik, AK. I found after returning to the "Lower 48" that I could not adequately describe what it was like there to anyone who had not spent time in the Arctic. Cheryl Schuermann has found a way, using the first person, to tell her Mother's story so well that I felt I was back there fishing with my friends on the banks of the Selawik River. I thank the author for so effectively preserving this story and the feelings it conveys. And I praise her Mother for having such a good memory for detail.

I sat down just to read the introduction and I never got out of my chair until I had read the whole book. The story of a family in frontier Alaska provides wonderful insight into the lives and character of native people of Alaska and the early pioneers who went their to seek their fortunes. Even if you are not interested in history or frontier Alaska, it a delightful story about real people with whom anyone can relate.

I was fascinated as I read Audrey's adventures growing up in the heartland of the Alaskan frontier! Written in first person, I felt I was there as each chapter shared incredible adventures, hardships, and celebrations of growing up in this pristine landscape. The author does a great job of including stories about native peoples and, through a child's eyes, explored building relationships with children and families very different from their own. This would be a great piece of literature for teachers to include when teaching about this region.

This is a fantastic story! It is great for a "bed time story", but is also fantastic in a preschool, children's church, or any children's program. It teaches on a level that a small child can understand, yet it can capture an older childs interests. This is a book FULL of character traits that everyone wants there child to learn. My daughter LOVES the book and I LOVE to see her eyes light up with curiosity as I read each page. I am a preschool teacher that is ALWAYS looking for ways to build character and show God's love to children. I am also a Children's Pastor. I use this book in my toddler & preschool rooms. The story stimulates a childs curiosity and encourages questions. This book is a teaching tool and I am HIGHLY impressed by it and would recommend it to anyone.

My 9 year old daughter has ADHD and is dyslexic. She reads at a 1st-2nd grade level. She is reading two pages of this book on her own every night before bed. When we first received it, she read the entire book in one sitting.

It is well-written and she is able to understand it easily in spite of her reading and attention struggles. It has sparked several bedtime discussions on everything from grandparents and RVs to stars and frogs.

I would highly recommend this book.

This book is a must read for any Operations Manager of Project Leader looking to mitigate the difficulties facing most organizations when it comes to systems integration. Dr. Eichorn's smooth writing style coupled with "real life" applicable examples made this a positive reading, but more importantly, a positive learning experience. Highly recommended reading for a person faced with mitigating integration in their organization.

The reason I started my own small business
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-12-01
I bought this book at a used book store a few years ago because I was intrigued with the concept of starting my own small business. I was (and still am) a young, budding entrepreneur. I despised the 9-5 daily grind that seemed to be sucking the life out of me each day and longed to have something of my own where I could eventually have financial freedom.

I've read many business books for inspiration, insight and motivation and this one still remains (after almost 4 years), the most important book in my library- even over the small business textbook I own from taking a class at the University. I have found with these kinds of books that they are really "hit or miss." The importance of the information you read in these books is subjective and cannot help everyone equally, but this is one of the most thorough books I have read on preparing to start your own business- whether it home-based or whatever.

It charged me up and kept me inspired consistently, and if I lost faith or put too many obstacles in my mental path along the way, this book was right there to talk me down and knock out any negative thinking. This book is ultimately what helped push me over the edge and start my own successful small business over 2 years ago. I've grown 50% in the past 12 months and I keep this book at my side at all times. I would recommend it to anyone considering starting a business- or even those who are afraid to take risks in their daily life- it has changed my life forever.

You know you have to get started, so get rid of the excuses!

Feeling job stuck and investigating the need to go out on your own? It's time to just stop all the theorizing and get started... Over the years I have bought scores of entrepreneur/business books and most of them, more or less, teach what they claim. Additionally, I rarely ever write reviews. However it would have been very selfish of me if I didn't write one for this book - learning so much from revewers on amazon every day. This concise, inspiring book is yet another commendable effort from these authors. The book is a fantastic resource for any self-motivated budding businesss person who has ever been stuck, for any reason, in the bringing to life of their business idea, it contains very relevant and practical advice. Get this book and you should have no more excuses. I certainly now don't.

Paul and Sarah Edwards founded the Working From Home Forum on CompuServe back in 1983 (that's 20 years ago, folks!) and they have been going strong ever since! Not only were they the first to spell out the necessary steps to start and run your own home business, but they have also proven to be the far and away leading mentors in pursuing a dream to become your own boss. They meticulously detail steps you need to take, questions to honestly ask yourself, and strategies to ensure your success. And, as with every book they have written, they include many interviews with people who have gone through the rigors of self-employment and pass along advice to those just starting out.

If you are serious about finding out if you can make it on your own, then this is the book to start with!

The three authors of this book have written at least 19 books on business between themselves. I have a feeling they may know what they are talking about.

The book focuses on what you need to do to start your own business. It covers the main excuses most people use as to why they have not started their own business yet, and what you can do about it. Lack of money? Lack of health care? bad economy? I'm scared? There is a way around all of these issues and the authors talk about each of them and more.

One section in the book I liked was "what if I want to start a business but do not know what kind of business I want to start?" I did the exercise listed in that chapter and came up with two good ideas that I had never thought about before. Now I need to follow the book and put them into action.

This book is great fun and very useful...short, clearly written solutions to everything in your Motorhome from funny smells, drawers that won't stay shut, Microwave turntables that move, noisesetc. The solutions are easy, cheap and really show some very resourceful thinking!

To rephrase Ratty's famous comment to Mole in "The Wind in the Willows": There is nothing- absolutely nothing- half so much worth doing as simply messing about in an RV.

By even the most charitable of definitions, I am not what anyone would call "handy" when it comes to fixing things about our sticks-and-bricks house. I am not good at it and I hate taking the time for even the most basic of repairs.

Having said that, I also note that I love puttering around our 5th wheel and could happily spend hours at a time on RV related projects! I guess that's why I think the 10 Minute Tech books are so terrific. More than 600 practical and money-saving ideas in each of the three volumes . . . clever, practical solutions to both everyday challenges and to obscure situations the average RVer will never come across. Each idea presents a practical, real-life solution. Each has been developed by an RVer. The projects are presented in language which is brief, understandable and to the point . . . and the illustrations do a great job of clearing up any questions left unanswered by the text.

The books are conveniently divided into sections on Livability, Safety, Appliances, Maintenance, Automotive, In Camp, Systems, Storage, Towing, Accessories, Sanitation, Doors-Hatches-Handles, Cleaning-Protecting, and Tools. Only a brief perusal is needed to start the creative juices flowing - to send the reader, tool box in hand, off on another project. A fun read when you are nowhere near an RV. An indispensable reference when you are on the road.

Loved it! Totally recommended. And when you are done, DO go an buy the previous two volumes! They are still very useful even with the changes in RV technologies. If only three of the 600 presented ideas come in handy, the price of the book is a bargain. I bought mine here, read it, and returned it to this site, and it sold in two days. It's an easy read, great pictures, easy concepts, wonderful. eMail me if you know of a similar source of clever/useful ideas for RV owners or Full-Timers.
