Enhancement Books

I just bought this with my new Cingular phone. I was pretty pleased with it...until I had to charge it. The second or third time I disconnected the charging cord, it pulled off the entire top of the unit and exposed the underlying electronics. I stuck the piece back on, but it now comes off EVERY time I disconnect the charger. I'll be taking this back for a refund or replacement.

If I read correctly, I think the previous reviewer is confused about how the Jawbone works. The Jawbone does not reduce your background noise level. What you hear in the background remains the same regardless of environment. However, the Jawbone does reduce what the person on the other end of the line hears that's in your background. Using the previous reviewer's nightclub environment as an example... whoever he talks to (a) will not hear the nightclub music as loudly and (b) will be able to hear his voice more clearly (as noted by the previous reviewer).

In all honesty, I have been very dissatisfied with my Aliph jawbone. I work in a nightclub and invested in the Jawbone in hopes of the claims of noise reduction being true. I tested it in my car, with moderate stereo volume in the background. There was no reduction in the background noise level with the Jawbone noise reduction on or off. The only difference I noted was a slight improvement in the clarity of my voice. I thought I had a defective one. The same night, I talked to one of our doormen who also had one, but keeps it in his pocket, due to his dissatisfaction with it. Buyers beware, you may be victims of one the best orchestrated scams I have ever seen. [...]. Until then, all I can say is the product DOES NOT reduce background noise, unless maybe you are using very sensitive measuring equipment than can measure DB fractions. Sorry Aliph, thus far it looks like you took this risk and now your busted.

I experienced the method from the author. It was more like laying on of hands than acupressure. The research she did was on five subjects and there were no long-term outcome data. The study's results may be from inducing relaxation because they are immediately after a session. She also claimed to treat me for allergies, but I noticed no difference. Most of the sessions involved listening to her complaints about other's personalities. The theory of the method is that she is working with energy. She expressed misunderstandings about psychology.

This book is at best a beginner introduction to digital photography and Photoshop. The author shows how he "enhanced" a range of photos using Photoshop. In many cases, the enhancements are questionable and/or so subtle as to make little difference to the result. I learned nothing from it. There are far, far better books available for digital photographers who wish to learn how to use Photoshop to enhance their photos. Give this one a pass.

This book is basically a pamphlet for the Buteyko method and those that teach it. It briefly describes the Buteyko theory behind asthma, a bunch of testimonials, a history of Dr. Buteyko and the practice of his technique, and the goals of the technique. This information is freely available in equal or greater depth on the internet. I don't find testimonials to be terribly convincing. This book does not teach one how to do the Buteyko technique, claiming that it must be done under the close supervision of a properly trained person. As such, this book is worthless.

This over advertised speed reading program is no better than others 1/7 it's price. It's just a standard speed reading program marketed by corporate pigs that say you arent allowed to resell it after you buy it. What's even worse is that you cant make a copy of the CD for backup.

Sad to say this book is not large enough print. Pages 61, 72, 149, were printed wrong and the type is microscopic even for me. I bought this book for my gma and the text of other books are actually large type. This book is not. Also the clues are spread out over 3-4 pages so the constant flipping of pages is too time consuming. I urge people to buy crosswords where the clues and puzzle are all on the same page. The author probably had no say in the matter of the poor printing. My 2 cents.

I am a home computer software tech, and am always trying for better security. I read the glowing security test reviews on Outpost Firewall, and decided to try it?
WRONG! My tale of woe!-

I thorouglhy uninstalled my old Sygate free firewall- then ran 5 GOOD system cleaners... (and the Outpost forum suggested JVpower..., also!). By the book!, with Startup Group programs/internet... Disabled!

I "finally" just got my computer running (down 7 days!), after crashing it with this Outpost Firewall (kept getting MANY DIFFERENT blue screens of death! Common thread on Outpost forum!)!
Outpost wrote a hidden protected security file (would not uninstall/delete...!) to my startup kernel memory/motherboard... that prevented an easy Acronis 9.0 full system backup restore (2 minutes!).... It also partially disabled... my XP CD, from fully writing to kernel memory (an advanced security measure)!

After MANY tedious full system restores (20 hours each!)- each with goofy PROBLEMS...! HUH???!-
I'll bet D... Gold tech support is glad to be rid of me!- The 5th puzzled senior tech, finally suggested the drastic solution... (they were going to replace... my newer 9150 computer next!)!
He suggested wiping my motherboard/system/hard drives... clean (reset to factory bios...), and got it going (luckily, I had full redundant backups..., on my WD external hard drive!). SHEESH!

Bottom line!- Even if you installed this successfully, right after a system restore...!- The kernel memory security file, prevents you from doing a boot system restore... later!
