This book is an excellent overview about Probabilistic Safety Assessment. In this case applied in Chemical and Nuclear Industries.
The references are complete, but in some cases are not updated. A very well overview about data, methods and software used
in this analysis is done. The relevant incidents in both industries are explain in special chapters.
Finally, this book is a powerful source of information with a lots of links to useful and more specific information. A complete startpoint in Probabilistic Safety Assessment.

This is a high quality, practical book that presents an integrated approach to risk management making safety and production
compatible company goals. The way in which the author explains that safety systems can degrade with time is a major breakthrough
in safety management thinking. This book is a must read for safety practitioners, human resource management professionals
and managers responsible for production and safety.

Dr. Kerzner made an excellent synthesis of project management from a practical point of view.
Pure experience sorted and regrouped alongside topics of excellence. The book is rich of diagrammes, graphics,
screen copies and all sort of illustrations which helped thousands of project actors to grasp and retain the notions.
I appreciated the European touch as well.
If you manage projects, this book is a must.
If you manage projects for over 10 years, take it with you even during your holidays.

An unique guide for Project managers

This is an unique guide on Project Management giving a step by step build up methodology. of a Project from a one line requirement of a CEO. The first part of the Book is developing the project documentation from the concept. It is demonstrated in simple terms how to build up the initial project constraints and how to present them to the stakeholders. The next part of the book shows how to examine the feasibility of the project once the project basics are finalised. The book demonstrates each step in detail including why it is necessary and could be an useful reference guide or handbook for project managers like us to develop their core project documentation.
One important part of the book is that it demystifies the jargon involved in project management and lays them bare not only with detailed explanation but examples.
Some aspects of the book are only relevant to major projects. The author attempts to cover a very wide range from Retail, IT Services to Infrastructure Projects as well as incorporate futuristic techniques, some of which may not be part of one's daily project plan. . As a middle manager I would not be able to use some of the unique methods of treatment of risk, time and resources suggested by the book as I am not the key decision maker and our company would take a long time to adopt such futuristic techniques .
For me the utility of the book lies in the methodology. The detailed analysis of each step we take in a project with the reasons behind each of them is the key benefit to be derived from this book. I would use it as a reference manual while monitoring as well as planning future projects.

This is the 5th edition of DJ Smith's excellent book on reliability in the real world. Having worked in this field for a number
of years, I can honestly say that Mr. Smith has provided a perfect means of understanding the principles behind basic reliability
calculations, in a way that is neither condescending nor unneccesarily complex. I recommend this book in the strongest possible
terms to readers interested in gaining a greater understanding of the world of reliability engineering without having to
trawl through pages of postgraduate mathematics.

I took the professional course associated with this text (from RiAC) and I high recommend it. If you have the need for understanding
risk in your product, this is a well organized step-by-step process for accomplishing that. I also recommend the professional
course. It solidifies the process in the text when you hear it being applied to real life projects from someone that has
experience implementing it.

Two years ago when I started my masters in structural engineering, I had to learn about random field theory. The books that
I found, considered the "must reads" for random field theory, might as well have been in Chinese (I don't understand Chinese
- just for the record). It was extremely painful and frustrating trying to understand the completely not clear or easy to
understand concepts - as they were presented in those books. Upon searching the internet, I found some papers written by
Gordon Fenton. His description of random field theory and his work in general, was like an oasis in the desert. This is
one very rare person who can explain complicated concepts so that they are easy to understand and apply. So when I found
out he was publishing a book, I thought, this is a must have. And I haven't been disappointed. The first section on probability
theory is without a doubt, the best explanation of the theory I have seen, with simple examples to help me concrete my understanding
of the theory being presented. Therefore, this is the first textbook that I would recommend for people trying to understand
the concepts of probability theory. Similarly, all other sections in the book are equally easy to understand and can make
even me look intelligent - as he enables me to really understand the concepts being presented, because of his fantastic ability
to communicate I like in particular, how he explains the practical reasons for why the theory can be simplified or assumptions
can be made. Most boffin writers of textbooks don't explain "the obvious" which is not so obvious to the novice person reading
their books. Sometimes I think that they don't realise that not everybody has done the mathematics degree required to understand
some of the intricacies, which if not clearly explained, can stump the reader for days until they find out why they have assumed
this or that. That's where Gordon Fenton is a real a gem. He doesn't leave you scratching your head, scrambling for other
textbooks to fill in the gaps before you can continue with his explanations. So I highly recommend this book to anybody
trying to understand probability theory, random field theory, estimation, reliability, Monte Carlo simulation and all other
topics he covers in his book.
