The above reviewer missed the whole point of this book.
Doesn't everyone know that children can see things that adults can't see?
I happen to believe the pictures in this book are enchanting The colors are muted shades of blue and purple which i found delightful
At the end it explained that the child takes the time to notice things around him, He is AWARE, more than the adults around him..precious

The literary roots of fantasy

Published in 1969 as a companion to Lin Carter's anthology of modern fantasy writers, "The Young Magicians," this equally
superb volume provided an historical context for fantasy. The selections are uniformly excellent: excerpts from such classic
works as "Beowulf," the Norse sagas, Thomas Malory, and "The Kalevela," to such haunting & beautiful poems as "Tom O'Bedlam's
Song," Browning's "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came," and Tennyson's "The Horns of Elfland."
As always, Carter's notes & introductions are informative & enjoyable. And he makes a strong case for fantasy as a central part of literature, not merely frivolous & disposable trash. Clearly the most powerful works of fantasy deal with mythic material, drawn from the very depths of the psyche -- there's a connection here between Carter's thesis and, say, the work of Joseph Campbell.
Once again, I'm reminded of just how much the modern fantasy reader owes to Lin Carter. His enthusiasm & determination in getting so many classic works reprinted (or even collected for the first time) in the Ballantine Adult Fantasy series was a watershed event -- although he shouldn't be held responsible for the flood of formulaic, mass-produced junk that's flooded the bookshelves in the decades following, alas.
Much of this material can be found elsewhere, of course. But this paperback original, nearly 40 years old now, remains a seminal volume in the creation of a modern genre -- and it's one of high literary quality, as well. If you should come across a used copy, it's well worth picking up -- recommended!

What a nice story. With all the craziness in today's world, Earth 2010 helps bring the important things in life to the forefront.
It makes you laugh, cry, scream out in anger, and hug your neighbor. What if? Is the general theme, and the story surely makes
you wonder.

Hilarious Movie Novelization

One Christmas Eve, while Santa Claus is visiting a children's orphanage, Buddy, a tiny baby, crawls into Santa's sack while
looking for a stuffed teddy bear, and ends up being taken back to the North Pole, where he is kept, and raised by elves. Thirty
years later, at 6'2, Buddy still believes that he is truly an elf. That is, until his adoptive elf father tells him the truth,
that he is actually a human, and that his biological father lives in New York City, but is also on the naughty list. Buddy
decides to set off to find his father, and to not only convince him that he is his son, but also to help him make the big
leap from the naughty list to the nice list.
After seeing the movie ELF, I just had to read the movie novelization. Identical to the movie, this book will offer laughs for children and adults of all ages, as they follow Buddy on his crazy adventures all over New York City. A must-have novelization for the holiday season, or any time of the year.

If your childs name starts with the letter E, they wil love this book!

We picked this up at our local library and my daughter loved it! This is the story about a little Elf named Elfin who lives
in Alphabet Town. He's apartment is shaped like the upper case letter E, and Elfin likes everything that starts with E except
Eels! Elfin has a friend Elephant who is his best friend. They loved to eat eggs, especially Easter eggs. With the next day
being Easter, Elfin, Elephant and their friend Eagle go to visit the Easter Bunny. The Easter Bunny needs help to color 800
Easter Eggs and put together Easter basket and asks Elfin, Elephant and Eagle to help.
What I also liked about this book is at the end there is 3 pages of extra activities to do with your child. 1. how many names start with the letter E and does yours? 2 Elfin's word hunt - how many words start, have an E in the middle or end with a letter E. 3. E word / picture search on page 7.
This book is part of a series of Alphabet town. Here are other books in the series. This was the only book that I saw at our library so I don't know what they are about except each character lives in an upper case letter apartment and focus on that letter. This would be a great way to introduce your child a letter a week and just focus on that letter and then move to the next book.
Here are the other books: Ape's, Bear's, Cat's , Dinosaur's, Fox's, Goat's, Hippo's, Ichabod's, Jack and Jill's, Kangaroo's, Little Lady's, Mouse's, Nightingale's, Owl's, Penguin's, Quarterback's, Raccoon's, Squirrel's, Turtle's, Umpire's, Victor's, Walrus's and XYZ Adventure.
This is a really cute book, I'm glad we found it and now will have to get a copy for our home as well!

Orivon had the misfortune to become the slave of cruel Taerune of the powerful house of Everdoom. She tortured him until she thought she broke him. Instead he knows he will only have one chance to escape so he patiently waits for the proper moment. That occurs when the rival House of Ouhlor breeches the magical wards and fierce fighting ignites. While in battle Taerune loses with her only chance for redemption being suicide. However the freed Orivon has other plans for his former mistress; as he needs her to guide him to the surface in return he will let her seek protection from other Nameless deities.
In this exciting stand alone fantasy, Ed Greenwood explores the culture, social mores and customs and strengths and weakness of the Dark Elves in their life underground. The dark elves believe the humans are unintelligent animals with a primitive culture that fails to neither appreciate beauty nor understand magic. Orivon and Taerune are diametric opposites who believe the other's civilization is totally barbaric. He has loathed her for a long time for hurting him, but needs her as they share the same enemies. They reach a truce and he comes to see she is not evil by nature but a product of her environment. DARK WARRIOR RISING is a magical treat that will please fantasy purists.
