For those carvers who cannot get enough patterns for Christmas carvings, I wrote this book just for you. I designed it to be easy enough for a beginner to complete the project, and challenging enough for advanced carvers to add their own interpretations to the patterns. I have tried to provide as much information as possible regarding the type of tools to use, when to use them, and paint colors to use to finish the project.

These books are great fun and reading through this three book combo was like eating literary ice cream. I only wish my college days had been half as much fun as reading about Keith's after he discovers the little people and their magic hiding on campus. Read these well written romps when you want to be in a good mood, they'll get you there.

This is an awesome read!

I recieved this book as a gift for my twelfth birthday. I thought it was way too long, so I put off reading it for a few months. Finally I picked it up and almost immidiately fell in love with the story. This series is one of the best fantasy series I've ever read!

The main character is hilarious. I read so much (about a book a day) that not many stories surprize or delight me anymore. Not so with this novel. I was laughing out loud, again and again. I'm now twenty and this is still one of my favorite books.

Fun enough for the kids, yet interesting and mature enough to not throw off the adults.

And don't be thrown off by the overall rating. It's just look cause some numskull forgot to include his rating with the book description.

Read this book! You will not regret it.

I had met the author at Noreascon last year, and after reading The Impending Storm, I was quite impressed (see my review under that listing). I was hoping to get Book 2, but it wasn't out yet. I read some of the information on the publisher's website (www.SilverLeafBooks.com if you need it), and considered trying the "young adult" series. I'm in my 30's, so the thought of buying something geared for teens made me hesitate, but I did breakdown and order the three books available. It may sound cliche, but boy am I glad I did!

Book 1 (The Child of Prophecy) and Book 2 (The Awakening) have certain elements that were familiar after reading The Impending Storm. But, Bowyer expanded upon the Kyria / Kai storyline, giving us a broader background and more detail. Even though a lot was similar, I did not feel like I was reading the same thing again and again.

The books were all only 192 pages, which made it a bit longer than some of the other Young Adult books that I have to admit I've read over the years (such as the various Star Wars Y.A. books). However, they were quick paced, grabbed my attention, and definitely helped fill in some of the gaps (not that The Impending Storm left a lot of gaps, but these books definitely brought out more of the series and displays Bowyer's brilliance at being able to juggle both without making it seem repetitive to people that read both).

I strongly recommend this book and series to you. You won't be disappointed!

This is the best story of elves ever. What could you have asked for more when "a mop of elves" was in your house helping you do all the housework and offering you delicate fairy bread for breadfast? (the house owner prefered sandwiches though)

First choice for a bedtime story--on a second thought, not. This book is too funny and fun to send any child to dreamland. Words alone cannot describe this book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has been told to clean their room before. This book is great!

A complex world of memorable characters, scenarios, & action that engage and keep the reader's attention from first page to last

Review Date: 2005-11-12
The second volume in Clifford Bowyer's "Fall of the Imperium" trilogy, The Changing Tides continues the story of an ancient tyrant returning to the Seven Kingdoms and those that would have confronted him have been deftly eliminated. Continuing a complex saga begun with "The Impending Storm" (the first volume of the trilogy), Empress Karleena has been abducted, and with her gone the hopes for the unification of the races is dashed. Warlord Brakis has been slain by his past. Admiral Morex, hero of the Imperium is lost at sea. The Madrew elf Kai is sent into a fold in time and space, leaving the one child that could possibly defeat the tyrant. The true intentions of Zoldex have yet to be revealed, but it seems that the Imperium is doomed. The Changing Tides finds that only the little band of heroes that include Solar (a mystral warrior sword to serve and protect Braksis), Thamar (a dwarven hero), and Adonis (the leader of ISIA) who have survived in the aftermath of all these disasters are all that the Seven Kingdoms have to stave off total disaster -- and they each of incredible obstacles they must overcome. Clifford Bowyer writes with originality and imagination, creating a complex world of memorable characters, scenarios, and action that engage and keep the reader's attention from first page to last -- and looking eagerly toward the third and concluding volume of this impressive and enthusiastically recommended heroic fantasy story arc.

Just like 'The Empire Strikes Back,' part 2 is arguably the best!

After reading Bowyer's The Impending Storm, I thought I was hooked, but that was before I got and read the second installment of the "Fall of the Imperium Trilogy," The Changing Tides. This book took me only three days to read, and it is about 100 pages longer than book 1, but the flow is so quick paced that I found myself reading it far more quickly. After a prologue that reintroduces you to a few characters that had been mentioned in book 1, the book picks up right where the first book left off (the abduction of the Empress). The palace is in chaos, hope seems to be lost, and Bowyer brings you right into it and before you know it, you're 150 pages into the book! It doesn't stop there though. You follow two basic paths, that of Solara, and that of Thamar (along with his brother Theiler, the Madrew elf Arifos, and newcomers Mylvannan, Heirn, Ashwin and Baldock - you'll love Baldock!). Unlike book 1, where every three chapters resumed the story of the same characters, you actually follow these groups (and a few others, like Ferceng, Adonis, Winton, and a character I hope to see a lot more of in the future: Kabilian!) for a time. The flow is perfect, and you seriously will not want to put the book down. I hate to say that The Changing Tides is BETTER than The Impending Storm (just because I had enjoyed it so much), but after reading it, I couldn't help but think of how great it was. The only problem now..... Do we really have to wait a whole year for book 3, The Siege of Zoldex? I strongly recommend this book and series to you. You won't be disappointed!

Young Emmy, while visiting her grandfather one summer, creates imaginary friends in the form of elves. These tiny creatures with flower petals surrounding their face, have names such as Fool-Around, Big-Time-Charlie, and Talk-too-Much.They enjoy the Enchanted Stream by such things as water skiing behind a tennis shoe serving as a boat and using paddle pop sticks as skis. In the end, Emmy's fear of making friends is conquered by her own imagination. Kristina Wasmer's illustrations beautifully capture the elves in all their activities.

The Elbo Elf History By The Author

Review Date: 2008-12-16
I, Joe Burke, am the principal author of Elbo Elf. The idea behind this story was a simple one. I was aware that Rudolph, The Red Nosed Reindeer had (at that time) 167 products licensed as well as the original song and thus that author made tons of money. My idea was to replicate that success by doing a musical Christmas movie with EIGHT songs (hopefully making 8 times the Rudolph loot). I got a musical partner, Ralph Romano. I created the character and the plot. I wrote the words and music to three of the eight songs. I wrote the lyrics to seven of the eight songs. Ralph wrote the music to four songs and both words and music to one song. I wrote the movie script. We could not find enough money to make a movie, so I rewrote the script for sound (an LP record at the time). Ralph functioned as a producer and assembled a team to make the recording of Elbo Elf.
Pete DeAngelis (formerly director of ABC network) arranged and conducted a full orchestra. Artist Chic Laganella designed the album cover from my sketches. I directed Souply Sales as the story's narrator and we had New York actors and singers as well as a sound effects expert to complete the ensemble. We recorded at Bell Sound in New York.
Although we successfuly completed the Christmas album titled "Elbo Elf," we soon discovered that we could not get record distribution unless we gave most of the earnings to some recording company, At that point we we stymied.
Years later, someone from The Henson Company (Muppets) heard the recording and optioned it for a movie. The Hensons paid for the option for three years and then dropped it. I am told that, instead of using the original story and songs, the Henson writers wrote a whole new story for the character. There is little-to-no value in Elbo Elf unless the original concept, characters, and songs are intact.
Ralph and I hold the copyright but we allowed Ralph's brother, Tom, to publish the "book" now advertised on Amazon. All the book does is print excerpts from my audio script. The book redefined the "look" of Elbo Elf because Tom got less expensive illustrations, etc, by using a Hong Kong publisher. Our original album cover appears on Amazon's "hardcover" advertisement of Elbo Elf.
My Elbo Elf is still worth billions if made into a movie BECAUSE (1)it is a solid piece of work which needs only a little update, (2) it will "play" for 50 years every Christmas just like Rudolph has, (3) it is about Christmas, brotherhood, Santa, etc, AND it is very entertaining for children of all ages.

Kids LOVE this story!

The Elbo Elf story is funny, heart-warming and happy with a strong moral ending. It stresses never losing "faith in what you can do." The songs are wonderful; you'll be singing along with them in no time! Great gift for kids of all ages!

I initially puchased this book for its wonderful illustrations, but when I got home and read it, the story is quite entertaining. Tingle the elf gets into some trouble while perfecting an airplane for Santa to give to the children on Christmas Eve.... he falls asleep inside the airplane and ends up in the hands of a child! The adventures continue as he tries to make his way back to the North Pole. The pictures are bold, bright, and vivid... they actually held my son's attention! I highly recommend this colorful Chirstmas tale.
