I'm so glad I bought this book/cd because I love fairies. The graphics are black and white, however, that shouldn't distract
you from buying it. If you want to use the pictures for arts and crafts such as stenciling and rubber stamping--there are
enough of them with simple to trace details. Also, the images could be used for coloring book projects for your kids. I will
use my projector to size an image and trace it on the wall and then paint it in. There are playful images surrounded by nature--leaves,
flowers, animals--mostly birds.

This is a beautifully illustrated book about a girl named Lucy and her encounters with fairies on her magical journey into
fairyland. Each page contains an envelope with fairy secrets inside. The envelopes themselves are cleverly blended into
the illustration, giving them a wonderful magical flair. This is a lovely book for dreamers of all ages.

I could not put this book down. I fell in love with the characters of Tryffin and Aelfrida and was disappointed when the
book ended........I hope the author is going to continue writing books with them included.

ELVEN LORE 101

Kingdoms of Kalamar continues to be one of my favorite RPG settings and one that still seems to be flying under the radar
of many gamers. The designers over at Kenzer & Company have made a great effort to produce a rich fantasy world with thorough
histories and backgrounds on all its races. Continuing that effort is Friend & Foes which takes a look at the elves and bugbear
races of Tellene in enormous detail. The elves are comprised of four major racial types: High Elves, Gray Elves, Wild Elves,
and Wood Elves. The book kicks off with an introduction of Elven history before dedicating it's next four chapters to each
of the four types of Elves.
Each chapter provides both the player and DM everything they could want to know about Elves...and more... From their Physiology and Psychology, to their social and family structures, systems of laws and governance, military and battle strategies, languages, dress, religion, etc...The writers point out a fact that most gamers never considered: if Elves gave birth as often as say human, Elves would soon overrun the world. With their incredibly long life spans it's noted that Elves would end up producing 200 offspring! That's a mind-boggling fact I had never thought about! Each Elven type has certain racial attributes that make them excel in certain classes. Gray Elves get a +2 to intelligence making wizards one of the preferred classes while High Elves get a +2 to dexterity, making them well suited as thieves or rangers. The book is really like reading Elves 101. The amount of material is really staggering! Following these chapters the designers provide tips on playing each type of Elven race, numerous new magic items and feats, and four new prestige classes including the Prophesized Hero and Forest Warder. There are also tables for generating an Elven PCs starting age and other traits.
Next up the Bugbear race gets the same treatment with detail on all of the things mentioned above. Bugbears have their own race types such as the Arctic Bugbears and Bugbear mages. This is the most fascinating treatise on this overlooked distant cousin of the Goblins that I've ever read. The Bugbear has long been an underrated monster as goblins, hobgoblins, ogres, and orcs have always received vastly more attention from game designers over the years. Finally, the book wraps up with several valuable appendices that provide adventure hooks to help jumpstart a campaign and Elven word translations.
Like all products from Kenzer & Co., a lot goes into the production. This is sturdy, hardcover book, 224 pages, and handsome illustrated by a group of talented artists. A must-have if you are adventuring in Kalamar and if you aren't, then I suggest you get on the ball as this is one magnificent setting.

A nicely illustrated, well written Elfquest children's book

Review Date: 1997-04-17
This book was clearly written for children, but I nevertheless enjoyed it. The author was skilled enough that the simple nature
of the plot did not detract from my enjoyment of the book. Wendy Pini uses simple language to evoke impressively complete
scenes and characters.
The art is wonderful, with the possible exception of the front cover, and the colors are beautiful. Familiar friends among
the wolfriders are rendered in the best Elfquest tradition, and the scenes are well constructed.
