Like the level 1 book, this presents some interesting information, but not in a format that you could actual do the practices. Perhaps this would be of value to people who had taken courses in this tradition, otherwise I did not find it of practical value.

This book is okay. I found others that are better written and more descriptive of the terrible tragedy in Cambodia. I would suggest When Broken Glass Floats instead.

Why is this called Science?
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 13 total.
Review Date: 2005-03-05

When I bought this book, I thought I might get some real concrete facts in the debate of evolution.I must admit,I was disappointed.
The problem is that Biology is not a Science like Mathematics or Physics where theories are subjected to the Scientific Method and a truth or law is proven;and once done does not change based on the pressure of factions or schools of thought. So, if you accept the stuff in this book as science;let me quote Lavers:(page 56)
"McNab's theory involves a few assumptions, but it is ingenious and at least consistent with the broad pattern of body-size variation known from the fossil record. It has received surprisingly little attention from scientists, however, partly because it is rather complicated but mostly because one year later,in 1979,a radical different theory was proposed that caught the imagination of most researchers in the field and seemed to offer a more general explanation for the evolution of warm-bloodedness in both mammals and birds."Since when is science based on how much attention ,how complicated or how much imagination a theory catches?
Then again,on page 101:
"The total number of species also declines towards the poles. The reasons for this are complex and not yet fully understood-at least twenty-eight theories have been proposed-but some factors are clear."Take your pick, get a few to go along with you,now you have a school of thought. But don't wait too long, there'll be some more theories shortly.
This is more like Archaeology where things are collected, measued, named, classified, catalogued, and so forth, but if one expects to get the origin resolved;that will depend on the school of thought in vogue at the time.At least they don't try to pass it off as science.

Although printed on better-than-average paper, this English import is only fair. I cannot imagine toddlers being that interested in the book; it appears most valuable as an early reader (the book contains only 21 unique words). The pictures are big and bright, something an infant might like. There's nothing that bad about it, it's just not very unique and certainly not worth the price.

okay but not the best in series

I agree with the other reviewers that Anja did act a little out of character, thanks to being written by a different author. Gold Eagle does that with all their series. They will use ghost writers throughout a sries run. But I did enjoy this book as a good, rapid paced action adventure and would give it more than a measly one star. I hear the next book in the series is better and just ordered a copy. So I hope it is as good as one reviewer siad.

I love this series but have to agree with the other reviews. I love to re-read this series but this one will not be included. The character was changed too much and not for the good.

Worst in the series

This was easily the worst in the series. As a huge Rogue Angel fan, I hate to say it, but this installment by Victor Milan was awful. Annja is completely out of character - acting like a silly school girl, crying in a strangers arm about a dead woman she met once, laughing and hugging a woman she couldn't stand minutes before. And the rest of the characters were completely lifeless. The story iteslf was random and disjointed, and the badd guys were completely predictable. The only surprises were the bad dialog.
I usually don't write negative reviews, but I had to warn other fans against this one.

Whoever had the idea to use a second writer on this book has a few screws loose. Amazing how Alex Archer changed accents when writing the book. The fight scenes were week, plus the dialogue was chopped up to the point it felt like two heroes were in the plot development. It was confusing when reading to jump from one version Annja to another. I wish I never purchased this book. If Alex was responsible for this mess then I hope he was under the weather; any other excuse will not hold water.

Please stop messing with our favorite heroine!

PLEASE ... PLEASE .... PLEASE ... Bring back Mel Odom!

Doesn't Viktor have a clue about what we LOVE about Annja Creed?!

I have loved this series. I HATED this book. The publishers have missed the mark using multiple authors writing under the same pen name about the same characters. Mel Odom just gets Annja. Viktor was okay for a couple of books, but he sure messed up this one. I'm trying to give the other authors a chance, but they really need to study Mel Odom's characters. We like character development. However, start from the core values. We do not want a completely different character as our heroine.

In this book, Annja was whiny, unaware, unfocused, undisciplined, lazy ... need I go on? And the protagonists were silly. There is so much more development that can be done with Roux and Braden.

Masterpieces and grandmasters are who they are because they are unique. Derivative works should remain just that, a complement to style, but no more. This is more than a request to this one author, but to the entire publishing industry. Enjoy Ted Geisel's work as it was meant to be, by yourself or with your kids. Trying to re-create it, in particularly, for monetary gains is ethically questionalable. Ted's work transcends markets and brands, it is a reflection on humanity, our strenghts and failures. Failure to understand this makes you no better than the Wickersham brothers.

Although Amazon has listed Dr. Seuss as one of the authors of this book, he is not!

Instead, the other authors/illustrator are attempting to boost their sales by stealing some of Seuss's characters--the Cat in the Hat, Horton the elephant, and the Grinch.

This plodding, predictable story totally lacks the wild plot twists and off-the-wall craziness of true Seuss. The trouble-making Cat in the Hat is transformed into a bland voice of authority lecturing about the importance of sharing. Evidently the authors haven't read "How the Grinch Stole Christmas", or they would know that the Grinch reformed at the end and is not the incorrigible villain he is depicted as in this book. Even the artwork is not a convincing imitation of Seuss, lacking the bold black ink strokes and wild details. The new characters in the book, Megan Mullally and her grandfather, look like Muppets rather than Seuss characters.

Get a *real* Dr. Seuss book.

Not for Modern Children

This 1949 book is inapppropriate for modern children. In one story, it manages to be insulting to both black Africans and Native Americans! The black African characters are referred to as "savages" and described as being afraid of rain, while their medicine man is referred to as a "sorcerer." In a prior related scene, the elephant children dress up as "Indians" in feathered headresses and play with bow and arrow.

This Babar story has become hopelessly dated by modern standards, and should be relegated to collectors.

I haven't seen this edition, but I wonder if they changed the illustrations (or took them out altogether)? I recently saw an old copy from the local library, and one of the illustrations was unbelievably racist. it portrayed the "natives" as "savage cannibals" with the old "jungle-man" stereotype of the African.

This book's cover is beautiful but you cannot judge a book by it's cover! The content, of course, is the beautiful story written by O. Henry but the way it was printed, left a lot to be desired. The illustrations were okay but lacked in depth. For me they evoked very little and I was disppointed, personally speaking, that they were not in color. The printing and such looked like it had been done by a bunch of people who didn't know quite what they were doing. For example, the title page was horribly off-center. Compared with the other publishing of the story which you sell for about the same price with illustrations by Lisbeth Zwerger, this one is really a loser. Honestly, I was surprised that you would offer it--especially at about the same price.
