"My Friend Harry" is a favorite of my grade 1 and 2 special education students. With each re-reading, the friendship between James and his stuffed animal friend, Harry, becomes more special and real. Although Harry says no words, he is personified beautifully by Kim Lewis. It's a wonderful, warm tale to help bridge the transition between home and school and all the emotions, happy and sad, that that entails. James wants to bring Harry to school until he adjusts to James' being gone but one suspects the separation is equally traumatic for both. "My Friend Harry" is a great vehicle for classroom (and home) discussion regarding feelings, love and friendship!

A mouse named Nicholas Alexander was making a home in a toy chest. Nathan and Nicholas Alexander were fighting. They stopped fighting and Nathan liked the mouse.
I liked this book because I liked the colors and pictures.

This book is by far the best I have ever read on the topic of foreign econimcs. I made a deal to order several hundred of these for the Harvard Business School becuase of how helpful this is. I have made thousands of dollars based solely on the advice and wonderful insights of these two authors, being Scott MacDonald, and the always intelligent Jane Hughes. Buy this book now for your own good.

What can you do with a nose like a hose? You can decorate it with bows and other moves, or read all about it in this fun picturebook story which pairs a rollicking rhyme with an elephant's dilemma, and ends with an unexpected celebration of a hose nose's benefits.

About a town that never seen or heard of an elephant

Splendidly written by Bruce Robionson and enhanced with the softly impressive artwork of Sophie Windham, The Obvious Elephant is a whimsical children's picturebook about a town that never seen or heard of an elephant, until one day an elephant happens to arrive! Everyone has different guesses about what the elephant is, but only one young boy knows for certain in this picturebook featuring earthy, shaded color illustrations.

This lovely book was such a hit with our family when we checked it out from the library that we just had to buy our own copy.

Ollie is a lovable elephant on a quest for a baby brother. This is a wonderful book for families planning additional children. It really models positive feelings about brothers and sisters and general warm loving feelings about babies in general - a good thing for all children that we hope will grow up to be parents too!

This is a great find!

Ancient philosphies for use in our modern world.

Most of you recognize the parable of the blind men and the elephant. After touching various parts of the animals body, the men who could not see were asked to describe the creature. Eventually they began to argue about their perceptions.

On The Elephant's Knee ($14.95, 1998, Triple "e" Productions, South Lake Tahoe California) is authored by local resident Thomas M. Easley. Many of you know Mr. Easley, or know of him. Born in Oroville California, Thomas was raised right here in Lake Tahoe with one of his earliest jobs being a deliverer of the Tahoe Daily Tribune. Easley has led an interesting life since leaving and coming home to Lake Tahoe. He has been a professional skier, a monk, a photographer, and artist in addition to being an author.

This is a slim book, full of information based on "foundation knowledge" and "universal wisdom." Ancient philosophies, traditions and concepts are the core of this work. The understandings and insights included here help the reader to examine and learn the five foundation "principles" or "laws." They are (1) body type, (2) alchemy, (3) chief feature, (4) center of focus and (5) essence.

Each of these principles is fully described in these pages. According to foundation knowledge, these laws constitute the basis of who we are. On The Elephant's Knee is a fascinating work. You will want to own it so that it can be used over and over to help you identify yourself and others. I found it much easier to determine the traits of my friends than to recognize myself. Introspection is not an easy task for most of us and yet, knowing oneself is the most important job we have in this life. I want, I like, I hope are the concepts that allow us to live well. Mr. Easley's compilation will help, but it is up to us as individuals to embark on our own journeys.

These pages are guaranteed to help the reader "become more aware of what we are, as human, not to change what we are." "Man is multidimensional" is Easley's recurring pronouncement. Readers will learn about many things in these pages, if only they are brave enough to look.

One Fourteenth of an Elephant is a haunting and deeply moving account of a "memoir of life and death on the Burma-Thailand railway" as told by a survivor. Ian Denys Peek was captured by the Japanese in Singapore in 1942 and along with his brother and thousands of others was forced to build the Burma-Thailand railway (as also depicted in The Bridge on the river Kwai). The title comes from working along side an elephant that refused to pick up a log that was too heavy and as result 14 prisoners were forced to manually move it instead. Written with frankness, passion and a remarkable eye for detail, this book should become one of classics of the Second World War. It is written in the first person present tense and describes the author's memories of those events is great detail. I originally expected it get repetitive after the first 100 pages, but there are only a few minor repetitive passages.

The only disappointment with the book is that it ends with his release and journey back to England. I personally would have loved to learn more about the process of returning to the 'real world' and what life had in store after that. I guess that was just too personal to include.

A must read.
