Both my 5 year old and 2 year old love this book. It's a short read, with rhyming text, but best of all, the animals seem to rise from the pages because of the pop-up. I also like the book's educational aspects - the biggest and the tallest in each category.

I'm a Children's Librarian and I'm working on my Spanish. I picked up this book because the cover is very cute, and found a wonderful story and the greatest artwork inside! The book is about the day the world split in half and all the animals of the world also found themselves halved. The story follows an elephant who is exploring life with it's new half-body, contemplating the positive and negative aspects of this change, and trying out combining with other half-animals (joining with a half-duck is rather uncomfortable because being in water all day makes for wrinkly skin). The story is very fun and the collage-y mixed media art is wonderful.

There are so few books today (even for kids) that are about unabashed joy, rather than scary things. This is a delightful, refreshing story with suitably adorable illustrations. I want to buy it for all the young children (and even some of the adults) I know!

My grandmother originally read me this book in the original German version. I was so happy to find it after all these years to share with my own children in English!

The best elephant hunting book I ever read. It is better than Bell's. The stories are amazing. Start to read this book and you will not be able to put it down. I have been to some of the areas he writes about and can only marvel at what it was like 40 years ago. If you like Capstick you will love this book.

The stories about the Large family are always humorous with a good touch of reality.

I bought this book for my daughter when we found out Will Hillenbrand was coming to visit her school. She read it twice before she took it to school, and I catch her reading it quite often. This is one of her favorites, even more so after Will signed it for her. She has even made her own book box!

"My Circle of Bears" is the author's tribute to the lives of her vintage bears. Most, if not all of these bears, came to Clise after their earlier lives with their original owners. Clise celebrates them with short descriptive essays, personifying each bear with its likes and dislikes. Most of the accompanying photographs are black and white, although there are a few color photos. Ophelia, who is the star of other Clise books, is one of the bears profiled in this book.

I have owned my copy of "My Circle of Bears" since my teen-age collector days in the early 1980's. It has survived college and numerous moves in my adult life, and I am still enchanted by the sweet and sentimental trip in this book. In these days of busyness and stress it is a delight to visit bears who dress in Edwardian underwear and lace, wear French pastry cones, and have passions for things like piano, heart ornaments, their delusions of grandeur, and each other.
