BRIGHT AND CHEERY HOLIDAY READINGReview Date: 2002-11-22
Together they watch the snow fall, and help their father shovel the fluffy white drifts. They make brightly colored decorations and hang them on their tree. Decorating a special cake is also part of this happy time of year. Until, finally, it is Christmas Eve and the excitement is just a night's sleep away.
Illustrated in full color and recommended for ages 2 -5, "Humphrey's Christmas" is a bright, cheery addition to holiday reading.

Beautiful and well written...Review Date: 2000-09-18

Great graduation present!Review Date: 2005-03-23
I read this book when it first came out (oh so many years ago). It was my introduction to Sandra Boynton. This is a picture book in (now) classic Boynton style of the proverb, "If at first you don't succeed, try again," Each page has a different word, with most of the pages having the word "try" on it and a different picture. A mouse is trying to move an elephant up a hill. At first the elephant doesn't budge. Then the mouse tries again to get the elephant to move. The elephant moves an inch or so. So the mouse tries again.... and so on. At last the mouse gets the elephant to the top of the hill. And the last page is "again" and you see that he has a dozen or so more elephants to get up the hill.
What a great message, that the seemingly impossible is possible, and not to rest on your laurels, there's more to be done.

Easy read, lovingly writtenReview Date: 2000-04-16
A novel, but mostly factual, about the life and death of the great African elephant known as Jumbo who died in a rail accident at St. Thomas, Ontario, in 1885.
The fictional portion is a story thread about a young English boy who becomes best friends with Jumbo. Well worth reading for any age but ideally suited to be read by children.

beloved blanket.
Kim Lewis has once again brought the delightful character of Harry, the
elephant and his friends to life. Lewis' realistic depiction of the animals as soft plush toys that can be found in a child's room help convey the seriousness of the lost item. The illustrations done in colored pencil and pastels add a softness and create warm feeling to the story.
With open-ended questions like 'Did you leave the blanket outside?', the reader, as well as, the characters can try to help Harry remember where the blanket could be.
Both children and adults will enjoy reading this story together because the children will relate to Harry's predicament and delight in the conclusion of the story.
