At one time or another I am sure all of us have wondered, at least once, how you would go about buying an elephant. Well after reading this book you will know exactly how to make such a purchase should you be so inclined. This book is actually a collection of articles on various subjects and while most were written in the 1800s there are some articles as recent as the 1970s and all of them are highly enjoyable. Among other useful skills you will learn how to signal a crane, fly a plane (at least a 1917 version) and cast a statue. The social etiquette articles are particularly interesting as they provide a window into our ancestors views on such subjects as how to shake hands and whom and when to marry. While many of these articles must be taken with a grain of salt they are all quite enjoyable.

This is a wonderful collection of the most random things you would want to know about from using your bedroom chair as a gymnasium, to making sauerkraut, to learning to skate. Entertaining and informative, Krausz makes this a great book to get. The drawings in here are beautiful too.

My daughter stumbled across a stuffed Humphrey elephant, and it quickly became her most prized possesion. Humphrey is popular is Great Britain, but harder to find here. We were thrilled to find out that there's a series of books too. The illustrations in the books are just precious. The colors are soft, and the details are darling. Humphrey's Birthday is very sweet. The author puts you back into the mind and innocence of being little and having a special day. My daughter has enjoyed this book for more than a year, and she still wants to read it all the time. This book makes a GREAT birthday present/keepsake book. If you like this one, check out the whole series!

I absolutely love this book, and so does my 2-year-old! I got it for her just before her 2nd birthday to introduce the concept to her, and she is completely captivated by it. Like all the Humphrey books, it's so beautiful to look at, the characters and their little dilemmas are easy to identify with, and the story is just warm and lovely. Classic Humphrey and Lottie fun!

I Am a Little Elephant is just another addition to the fabulous big-board large-sized series by Francois Crozat! The pages, that are filled top to bottom with amazing, full-color illustrations, will fascinate old and young alike! These are great books to start your child's growing library. Be aware - they are not all available anymore, and that is truly sad. Don't bother with the smaller version of the large-format books. The impact (in the tiny books) just isn't there. Go BIG.

Love the illustrations

All the "I'm a Little..." books by Francois are incredible. The pictures are detailed and are very engaging. Our 20-month-old looks through them very thoroughly and you can make a fun game out of saying "where's the butterfly" and then he points, and so on and so on. The format is really nice...big large hardcover pages (board book) with very colorful illustrations. You end up wanting to own the whole series as they will be excellent "first reader" books as well. Kids just love the animals too. Excellent value (priced very reasonably for the very good quality of the product).

My son loved the beautiful artwork. He listened intently to the story, and I was amazed how much information it cleverly contained. If your child would like to learn about the life cycle of the butterfly, this book does an entertaining and detailed job.

Paid a hefty price for the Out of Date book, but my wife will definately love it. We own the "I Love My Daddy" book by the same Author as well and it is one of our child's favorite books!

My wife cried the first time she listened to me read this little gem of a book to my daughter. The heartwarming animation portays a little elephant expressing why it loves its mother. I Love My Mommy profoundly convicts every parent that true love can be shown through simple yet frequent acts of thoughtfulness. Also, the thick-cardboard pages are easy for our toddler to turn! Only a few bucks was a small price to pay for so many heart-warming smiles! We will definitely purchase I Love My Daddy and I Love My Teddy by Kate Gleeson.

I would highly recommend this wonderful and enchanting book. It is a gorgeous adventure story about a little elephant, who is learning the ways of africa and being a small brave elephant! You feel the author lives and breathes the African way of life, and also his love of the small elephant is tangible! I defy any adult whether reading it to a child, or just to themselves (like me) not to love this book and have a smile on their face at it's conclusion. I am certainly buying it for all the small people around me!!!

This book is fantastic. For anyone who has not had the privilege of meeting elephants in Africa, this book is the next best thing. The descriptions are so sympathetic to the character and nature of these wonderful creatures and the story told so beautifully that this will be a timeless book. Perfect for children and grown ups alike. Lets hope that there will be more from this author.

An informative resource, but I urge every one who has hemochromatosis to read the Bioinitiative Report at [...]
and then to search for cell phone towers and antennas on [...]because this is why you have the disease and the gene. Too many manmade electromagnetic/microwave/radiowave fields in the environment, especially with the Telecommunications Act of 1996. There is a cell phone tower on every corner nowadays, and this is likely why the honeybees and bats are dying, too.

This book is great for those adventurous toddlers. It's just the right length and not too wordy. They travel through the jungle as the book asks the question, "Is that an elephant over there?". The kids love to lift the flaps to find a zebra, tiger, and hippo before finding the elusive elephant. Fun for everyone!

Terrific early flap book

This is a simple book, but sturdy and interesting to really small children. The animals are cartoonish but they are rendered somewhat realistically with respect to color. They do appear warm and friendly. The book is very sturdy and will last a while. After a few reads, kids will know the story and have fun with the q & a format. This is a good value and an entertaining, if short, book.

I had this book when I was very little. Now I'm 20 and I still remember requesting to have this book read to me over and over, and then later reading it myself over and over. I still sympathize with Kate (although now it's because I want a car and can't afford one). My 17 year old sister fondly remembers the book too. A definate classic.

I grew up on the movie so it was quit a shocker to read the book. As stated in the beginning there are no petticoated women in this book. It is a men's adventure written by a man for men. You can not miss the hand of H. Rider Haggard as he has a unique sense of humor that pops up at the strangest times. He may be a little verbose but every word has a use. And as with written stories this one is much more intricate than the movie adaptations. You will find many assumptions of the time such as any complex construction must have been built by white people and natives on their own may turn savage.

The story is told first person by Allan Quartermain. Nevil is off to make his fortune by finding King Solomon's lost diamond mines. Allan sends him a 300 year old map to help. This is the last anyone heard from Nevil. Turns out that Nevil is really the estranged brother of Henry Curtis. Sir Henry Curtis now wants to make amends and he with his friend Captain John Good, bribe Allan Quartermain to take them across an endless desert and trough impassible mountains to an adventure that will hold you to the very end. Along with them is their self imposed helper Umbopa who carries a secret of his own.

If you get a chance to also hear the recording, an added plus is narration by John Richmond; He brings the characters to life and adds to the mystique that this story has been passed down.

Excellent adventure!

I thought it was an exciting story, thrilling and educational. I was propelled to keep reading. In depth scenery, almost feels like you're in Africa. The built in dictionary is very helpful with some of the word translations and editor notes help explain complex parts. Good book if your an adventure fan of Allan Quatermain or Indiana Jones.
