Peter Kropotkin's 'Conquest of Bread' helps point the way toward a future ruled, not by greed and oppression, but by fairness,
rational division of labour, and humanity. This book is an antidote for the bugbears of state socialism and 'liberal' capitalism.

When I was a young child I made my mother read this book to me just about every night. I love this book so much! I have
noticed the price is rather high for the book and I would like to know why. If anyone knows please drop a message at hoperahmachine@hotmail.com.
This is a great book for preschool to kindergarten aged children. Enjoy it if you can find one.

Alternately sweet, sad, and surprisingly funny ("what is that, a squid?"), this gem of a book portrays the forgotten trials
and tribulations of deaf elephants. Plighted by their companions and shunned by zoos, our heros still manage to fall in love,
share their thoughts, and face the world with grace and dignity. It'll take you a minute to read, and less time to decide
you need to buy 10 more for your friends.

"Deaf Elephants" is a picture book for gentle persons of all ages, based on a little fib about elephants that you'll quickly
forgive. The simply told story of their lives is filled out by the author's ink drawings, swinging easily from the elegance
of the "Little Prince" illustrations to goofy humor. This is a wonderful book full of love and encouragement. I'm sending
it to all of my friends.

I have ordered this book twice. It has great illustrations and paintings to enjoy. I really enjoyed the way that Welleran
Poltarnees writes this blessing with the wonderful pictures on each page. I recently gave this to our veterinarian when she
saw us through a most difficult time. We lost our most beloved dog and we felt it would be such a beautiful gift in thanking
her. It is a book that every dog lover would love to read and have.

In "Duckling's First Spring," Little Duckling has just hatched. (He's the firstborn -- there are two other eggs in his nest.)
Now that he's hatched, there are so many friends to meet. And meet them, he does. He meets a Bluebird, Mr. Fish, and many
other animal friends. Together, they have a great time, frolicking and singing.
The text is simple enough to appeal to the youngest readers while still being interesting and engaging. The illustrations are vivid and cheerful. Even the book itself is shaped like a flower, for added fun.
This review is the fourth in the series "Agent0042 Goes Ducky," in which I review books featuring cute duck or duckling characters. The third was "Baby Duck and the Bad Eyeglasses."

EATING THE IT ELEPHANT: MOVING FROM GREENFIELD DEVELOPMENT TO BROWNFIELD provides a complete approach to evolving and transforming
Legacy IT Systems, and will appeal to any advanced computer collection strong in IT management. The problems involved in legacy
systems are clear: the authors here identify root problems, offer up approaches that feature balance and more efficient communication
and transformation programs, and take a slower and more methodical approach to change than others. Highly recommended.

In preparation for my upcoming trip to The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee to take photos for an article that I'm
writing about these incredible animals, I purchased this book and others by Cynthia Moss. This one will help to make people
aware that elephants were not created for human entertainment. The rich among us saw them as the path to greater wealth, and
left dead and abused elephants in their wake. The readers of this wonderful book will see elephants as the sensitive, caring,
creatures that they are and always have been. We humans could learn much from reading how they bond together and watch over
their young and each other. After reading this book, I hope many do as I did. Toss a check in the mail. These people who are
helping these elephants are often doing without, to better serve a cause that they're very dedicated to. The many terrific
color pictures made this book come alive.

I bought this book a couple of weeks ago because a friend recommended it. I didn't think much about it until I got home from
work and was going about my nighttime ritual with my 4 year old daughter. (she gets to pick a book for bedtime.) She had received
her new book in the mail and wanted to read it. Boy, saying she loves it is an understatement. We've read it every night the
last two weeks, and she still asks for it every night! She even wanted to take it to school as her "share toy". Just based
on my personal experience, I'd say this is definitely worth the investment. My daughter is eagerly awaiting the sequel to
"Eddie and Edna".

important message anyone can learn. I hope you read this book! =]

This book is awesome. It teaches children how to be compassionate in caring for others, sharing things, and the joy of giving.
This book put an end to arguments about sharing between my 3 and 4 year old. When they are not sharing, I just say, What
would Edsel do? Compassion, sharing, caring, and giving is something that needs to be introduced at an early age, so it will
come natural as they get older and enter into the real world.

Edsel the Elephant who learned to share was about an elephant who wanted to help someone or give someone something special,
little did he know he was going to meet someone who much needed his help. I thought the book would be appropriate for 5 to
8 years old. I think every child would enjoy it because it shows Edsel sharing something special with an animal.

The Conquest of Bread is one of Kropotkin's contributions to anarchist theory. Kropotkin posits, like Marxists, that the concentration of wealth which is the basis of a capitalist economy is the root cause of poverty. Unlike the Marxists, however, Kropotkin does not suggest a centralized state as the solution to workers' exploitation. His solution is autonomous collectives in which produce what they can and barter for what they need and want. In essence, Kropotkin is suggesting an anarchist market economy.
This market is not profit driven, as it would be in a capitalist market, having no regard for the basic needs of the individual. Kropotkin believed, instead, that the productive system is efficient enough to produce not only the needs of the population, but also enough of the luxuries that make life pleasant. What prevents the general enjoyment of these goods is not lack of production or inability to distribute them, but the determination of production by profit motives rather than social consumption motives.
Kropotkin's divides his book thematically, looking at basic human needs and wants. He examines why despite the ability to produce enough for everyone, people live in want. He looks at the need for luxury and sees it as an understandable and necessary part of being human. And despite being written over 100 years ago, his analysis is still fresh and relevant. The same problems that limit the lives of the working class in 2008 limited them in 1905. The difference is in scale and scope.
Charles Weigl's Introduction is well-researched and gives important insight into Kropotkin's life and context for his work. For someone unfamiliar with Kropotkin, it will prove invaluable. Weigle takes the reader through the ideas and critiques of Kropotkin without the pedantic idealizing of many who write about the people they admire.
The Conquest of Bread is an important contribution to anarchist economics and anarchist theory in general. This edition by AK Press is well presented and of high quality. I highly recommend it.
