I found this book very helpful in getting started with my first Biztalk 2006 application.

However, you will need to consult other materials for more advanced Biztalk development.

A Treasure Trove of BizTalk Knowledge

I thank my lucky stars that I got a hand of this book, just before embarking on my first large scale BizTalk project. It is a veritable treasure chest of biztalk goodies! Exception handling, reliable messaging, operational best practices - this is just the tip of the iceberg.

While a lot of the information is available on the net, nowhere is it more clearly explained and categorized than in this book. Look no further!

Advice for the Architect

Review Date: 2007-04-23
The authors know what an architect needs to consider when designing and implementing a BizTalk 2006 solution. They wrote a readable, compact book packed with their wisdom. Not surprisingly, it does not cover every (most?) BizTalk feature.

My only beef with the book is the code - all VB.NET. ;-)

Excellent reference

This book expands on the introduction to orchestrations and other key BizTalk components given in the Foundations book. Personally I think that this combined with the Foundations book sets you up nicely to start doing some serious BizTalk work.

Pro BizTalk 2006 for the Novice and Expert
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2007-02-26
Every so often a book comes along which transcends the technology that it is intended to explain. If you are a BizTalk novice, this seminal work is for you. With a self-deprecating style, the authors guide you through the wide and deep integration waters. They tell you just enough so that you can be proficient and yet feel comfortable that you have chosen the correct course. What you might not know is that the authors are building a framework for you to develop the best solutions going forward. For the expert, the authors have redefined what it means to orchestrate the integration space and to use a product to its maximum utility and purpose. I support both small and enterprise BizTalk customers every day. I can't recommend this book enough!

When I first read this book, I didn't have much experience in life and had a very short memory. As I grew in experience I realized that many of the positive changes in my thinking were seeded by ideas I gained reading this when I was relatively barren emotionally and intellectually. The person I was when I first read this book is now but a memory. But the amount and the kind of guidance I got along the way or continue to get from various sources is regulated by my own readiness to understand and eventually accept. I credit this work for giving me a place to start.

Review Date: 2007-12-23
Dr. Peck's landmark book "The Road Less Travelled" is a well-used book in our home library. With an open mind and the desire to help oneself, this
book is of enormous assistance. It enlightens, examines, provides a
plethora of goals and aims for one trying to find his/her way through a
maze of psychic pain, emotional distress, and/or true depression.
It was recommended to me by a physician who is board certified in
Adult and Child Psychiatry. The book is a gem! Buy it, borrow it. . .
but, read it again and again.

"Project Management for Modern Information Systems" offers a thorough examination of Project Management for project mangement professionals emphasizing information systems, but definitely not limited to or constrained by IS. Development of each topic includes technical, business, and strategic perspectives, building clear imperatives for "best practice". Each chapter is well developed and easy to read with excellent examples throughout.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Brandon and hearing him speak multiple times on the subject of project management, and I feel confident in saying that you ll have a hard time finding anyone with the depth and breadth of experience Dan possesses. Furthermore, through his academic and industry experience, he has learned to write about project management principles in a manner that is both rigorous yet easy to understand.

New information taught well
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2004-06-08
This book conveys information technology aspects in a serious maner. How the information technology relates to business is elucidated very well. Case studies are provided at the end of each chapter and are applicable to real-life problems.

At the end of each chapter are discussion questions to help review important points presented in the chapter.

Answers to the chapter cases and the questions can be acquired from the publishing company.

I appreciate this book since it has taught me how business and information technology depend on each other to produce a profitable company. This book presents information technology aspects in a clear and concise manner, as compared to other IT books that delve into lingo and the like.

Applied Data Communications - A Business Oriented Approach
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2001-04-26
Unlike many books, written on today's technology issues, Jim approaches this topic from the business perspective. This top-down approach allows one to understand how a set of technologies maps to the business drivers. This books looks at business impact from a business management perspective. Moreover, this book covers a range of topics that allow the reader to understand the complexity, and interrelationships, of today's distributed internetworking environment.

The reader will be exposed to layered architectures - understanding how they interrelate, yet remain separate. The topics range from an overview of Data Communications - including voice, through local area networking - protocols and OSs, WANs, internetworking and remote access. The book closes with coverage of the network development life cycle, network management and security.

What sets this book apart from many is the way Jim approaches technology solutions based upon business drivers and criteria. Technology, in and of itself, does not enhance a business' ability to deliver value. However, when one approaches technology solutions, or innovation, based upon business criteria they are more likely to add value to the bottom line. Jim encapsulates the concept of value added technology solutions in his presentation of data communications. This book is well written, concise, and understandable - a must read for individuals focused on technology and business!

Prolific views that come packed in a single volume

Review Date: 2007-12-15
Ahead of its time, this book predicted the shape of things to come. The regulatory framework for electronic commerce has largely been plotted along the lines presented in this book back in 1997. Some missing elements are likely to become reality soon, as a result of Web 2.0 technologies. Great buy.

Beyond electronic commerce

Review Date: 2004-03-03
The emergence of electronic procurement, the UN/CEFACT BCP model and XML based transactions, have brought open EDI back into the monitor of e-business developments.

The stakes are high for those legislations that have not sufficiently embodied electronic means of B2B transactions. To those that have, though the challenges are ahead of them, since there have been no functional examples of legally binding on line negotiation models as yet that could facilitate true automated B2B transactions over open networks.

This book presents a superb overview of a subject matter that is here to stay and reviews potential solutions.

I just finished reading this book and recommend it enthusiastically to anybody interested in how B2Bs and extended enterprises must work in the future. The book is broken down into 3 parts: Part 1 explains how B2Bs interact and how trust plays a critical role, Part 2 discusses the concept of e-Trust and business processes by industry, and Part 3 discusses e-infrastructure, security, and controls on a more technical level. Overall, the author manages to provide clear and comprehensive coverage on an exremely challenging, constantly evolving subject.

Probably the first Internet Law treatise
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2000-06-22
Providing a treatise on Internet and Online Law is not easy. It is almost impossible. The range of topics to deal with includes all the main substantial law subjects and intersects with various elements of International Law and Jurisdiction just to name a few. This book does it egregiously. I used it for research: the only limit is that focuses mainly on U.S. Law (despite other countries are coming up with interesting solutions and answers). As far as the rest is concerned, it is all positive: updated, wide range of case law fully explained, easy to read (with at least a basic understanding of the law and the internet jargon). It also provides practical examples and solutions for those who are engaged or wish to engage in the Internet Business. I also found very interesting the Chapter regarding Securities Law and Copyright.
