This book contains concepts that I had to learn 'the hard way', over many years. It explains office politics, how to understand what your boss wants/ needs from you, why hard work doesn't always get you ahead, and more! I have bought this book for 25 of my employees. I recommended it to the head of the engineering department at my university - they have used it for a senior-level seminar. I can't say enough about how readable, applicable and useful this book is! It is a refreshing change from most management books which spout terms like empowerment, and fill themselves with charts and grids. Barry tells it like it really is... find yourself a copy! Someone needs to pick up the paperback rights... it would be a top seller

I Said Yes! is a true testament to the power of one individual's determination to make a change in our inner-cities. I liked this book because it was written in a very genuine and honest way which I found completely refreshing. Ms. Kantor's personal anecdotes were very engaging and reflective of the changes working with those trying to get out of poverty made in her life. She truly cares about young people and knows how to motivate them to succeed as entrepreneurs. Striving businesspeople, teachers, social entrepreneurs and those who want to make a social impact should definitely read this book. It's a primer for anyone who wants to get out of their comfortable armchair and make a difference.

Elisha Cooper's artwork is delightful--reminiscent of James Stevenson's sparse illustrations. Yet they evoke so much in their simplicity. This is a fun tale of how ice cream comes about, where it goes, how it's processed, and how it comes full circle back to the farm and cows again. Cooper adds some fun humor to his illustrations, and the tale is simply told. A great nonfiction book.

"It starts with a cow." So begins Elisha Cooper's entertaining and inventive picture book, Ice Cream. From the cows grazing on grass in the pasture, to the yummy final product being delivered to stores, Mr Cooper details each fascinating step in the creation of everyone's favorite treat. His engaging text, that often winds its way creatively around the page, is informative and filled with simple, straightforward explanations, marvelous machine sound effects, and subtle humor, and is enhanced by charming pencil and watercolor artwork. Perfect for kids 7-10, or for reading aloud to younger children, Ice Cream is non-fiction at its very best, and a delicious little masterpiece you don't want to miss.

"Cubicles" is absolutely awesome. I wish it had been out when I graduated from college. Now, I send a copy to every young college graduate I know who is entering the working world. This book is all about guidance and is hillarious to boot. The author has found the perfect "voice" to get her message across to young adult women and middle managers about ALL those things that no one ever told you about the workplace but you REALLY need to know. Kim Beamon's style is blunt, funny and best of all...useful. The companion book, "The Game", provides the same direction for men. There are TOO many people that I have worked with over the years who should have read these books, myself included!

The author may be your saving grace!

A Classic, Updated

I read this book in its first edition back in 1974 or 1975, when it had just been published for the first time. I'd completely forgotten about it all these years, but then came across a copy in a used book store, instantly recognized it, started reading it, and realized how much it had influenced my life these past 30+ years -- for the better. I just bought a copy of the revised edition for my daughters, one graduating high school, the other mid-way through college. This is probably the best book I've read on how to rationally plan one's life, emphasizing the probable outcomes of different choices, how to make the most of one's assets, and the importance of forging ahead while making sure to create options because while life is fairly predictable in its general outline, it is highly unpredictable in its specifics. The balance of optimism and realism in the book is perfect. This book should be required reading for every teenager. The revised version updates this classic making it even more valuable. I recommend it without qualification.

I LOVE this little primer about planning an effective and satisfying life. I first discovered If You Don't Know Where You're Going, You'll Probably End up Somewhere Else about 15 years ago and can well recall sitting on the beach and sharing passages from it with a friend. She liked what I was reading to her so much that she borrowed the book from me, and within a week she and her husband had resigned from their jobs, put their house on the market, and sent out resumes to potential employers. The message of Dr. Campbell's book is that powerful!

David Campbell's book is easy to read, sprinkled with neat quotes, and packed with practical advice written in an engaging, upbeat style. I recently reordered and reread the book and was just as delighted this time around as I was the first time, especially with certain passages. The one in which he describes life as a pathway with paths off to the side is a favorite, and I've always remembered his admoniton to make certain the choice is in your hands, not a gatekeeper's. Speaking of choices, Dr. Campbell says that the greatest tragedy in life is to have no options, and this book is all about helping the reader find and develop them.

To repeat, I loved it. How could anyone not like a book that ends with this quote by Henry Van Dyke? "Be glad of life because it gives you the chance to love and to work and to play and to look at the stars."

An Interesting Synthesis

This is a book that integrates many disparate themes into a surprisingly coherent whole. It is, first and foremost, a systems approach to social science. But it is more than that. It is also a unifying evolutionary framework and a plausible world view. It provides an intuitively satisfying integration of biological, mental and social processes. It is also well written. And I would have to agree with the reviewer who called it one of the best books he had ever read. It is truly a little jewel.

This book is interesting and well-written. It answers one of the most difficult questions facing managers today - How does one manage creativity? I first saw this book at the British Council Library in Bangalore, India, and have been trying to buy it ever since. Thank you, Amazon Books, for helping me locate it.

Provides great structure for creativity and problem solving.

The authors provide a wonderful context in which to understand both creating and problem solving in business. The book provides an excellent review of some of the best cutting edge creativity technologies, as well as many useful new tools that I have used sucessfully in my own creativity practice. I highly recommend the book to newcomers to the growing field of business innovation and creativity, as well as seasoned veterans. I'm imagining the authors' British roots are partially responsible for their fresh slant that adds to the body of knowledge provided by American authors. A great read, lots of fun, and packed with helpful tips and resources

Practical models for Corporate Environmental Strategies
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2006-11-20
I bought this book while writing my under-graduation final project in "Corporate Environmental Strategies", which was later published in a Brazilian magazine called Industrial Ecology. The book changed the way I see environmentalism in a very important way: it made me stop discussing about the real state of the world and start worrying about improving it (in those times I had read 'The skeptical Environmentalist' by Bjorn Lomborg and 'The Ultimate Resource 2' by Julian Simon, which are great books in my opinion). I started to understand that the most important is not to define where we stand, but to make the world a better place.

Graedel and Allenby propose practical and detailed strategies in order to 'green' the production process. They start the book with a really unbiased discussion about environmentalism and slowly provide the context for the introduction of environmental processes into the industrial world (full table of contents below). The text is written in a very clear and didactic way, and the technical terms are explained from A-Z.

I strongly recommend this book for engineers, environmentalists, managers, biologists, and people who want to improve the world's environment.
