Friendship means much more than anyone would tell you. "I'm Not Too Busy" is a collection of motivational wit and wisdom, looking at the world and focusing on the simple subject of caring between friends, between family, and just plain caring. Poetic and inspiring, "I'm Not Too Busy" is a fine pick for parents to read along with their children, highly recommended.

I bought this book because I own other great works by Jodi Hills. She is a brilliant author. I do have to say that this book was a hit. I showed it to my grandmother, whom can get very busy in her life. She loved it so much that she purchased 13 books and gave them to her dearest friends that she has had a hard time keeping in touch with due to the craziness of life. They all are raving about the book now as well. For all of the busy people in the world..I reccomend "I'm Not Too Busy" to anyone.

Another anointed teaching from Dr. Myles Munroe. This teaching reminds us that we are born with a "gift"and once we discover our "gift", we are to serve it to the world. A reinforcement of our being here for such a time as this.

Wonderfully Empowering!

"In Charge" by Myles Munroe is an insightful non-fiction read about servant leadership. The perspective is refreshing. These short, inspiring chapters are designed to help the reader discover that we're all created to serve and to lead. Systematically divided into three sections, this wonderful book begins by teaching us about that destiny, moves onto the principles of servant leadership and finishes with practices of servant leaders. I would recommend this book to anyone regardless of their current leadership role.

This book is not only a riviting read, but the principles of leadership are brought to light in the arena of in extremis which is compelling and informative. The interviews and reports from soilders in combat, fire fighters, free fall jumpers, FBI SWAT teams and even a father caught on the horns of a dilema with his 18 year old daughter bring clarity to the message. It's leadership principles are applicable to all walks of life. I wish I had this information years ago. It is so cogent. Roland Peck, Business Owner.

In Extremis Leadership is a great read! If you have leadership responsibilities, or are in a position to influence people, this book will help you think in new ways about the subject - regardless of whether you are actually leading people in life and death situations. I highly recommend reading Tom Kolditz' latest contribution to the art and science of leadership.

Must read for public safety leaders

My team and I recently had the opportunity to hear Colonel Kolditz speak at the 2007 Water Rescue Conference. We were so impressed with his presentation that we ordered a few copies for the team when we got back. Once I picked this book up, I found it hard to put down. It is by far the best leadership book I have ever read. I have read dozens of them and picked up some leadership tools from each, but none compare to the valuable lessons to be learned in this book. It made me cognizant of countless improvements that I could make in relation to the way I lead my people. Unfortunately in the public safety business you have to be prepared to deal with internal tragedy. The chapter in this book that covers what to do when internal tragedy strikes will leave leaders prepared for the unthinkable.

I find this book to be a very usefull and insightfull introduction to the scene which exists behind our normal work experience.

It investigates our basic motivations in serveral areas connected to the field of work. It relates them different to world pictures we can hold. It also dives deep into several main beliefs we normally have about work.

In this book, underlying driving forces and fears are brouht up to the level at which one can deal with them in a helpfull manner.

Fantastic Work of Truth

Review Date: 2001-05-26
This book describes wonderfully how to apply the principles of Truth as illuminated in "A Course In Miracles", as well as other great works of Truth, to your career. Although the author doesn't refer to ACIM directly, the principles of Truth are constant and never changing, and this book, and ACIM illuminate the Truth.

This book gave me a deeper understanding of ACIM principles. Like Truth, it will show you the way to happiness. There doesn't need to be any conflict in your career and what you are. Doing what was meant for you to do is the challenge, and once you know the Truth of What-Is, it becomes very easy - and natural. I applaude the author for sharing his insight into this important area of our lives here on earth.

The last chapter entitled "How Does The World Work?" is one of the best pieces of spiritual writing I've ever come accross - truely inspired.

I am highly fascinated by this book. The author felt and spelt the emerging directions of the convergence--media, telecommunications, entertainment and technology.

The world continues to converge day by day, and this "revolutionary" perspective, as Koelsch rightly worded the emerging convergence in one word, amazes everyone, everywhere, everytime.

A glance at the contents gives a feel of what is this all about:
Part I: The Infomedia Imperative, Part II: Home Sweet Electronic Home, Part III: The Information Superhighway, Part IV: Infomedia: Revolutionizing Business, Industry and Government, Part V: Changing Our Lives.

An enhancement of 'The Art of Innovation: Using Intelligent Fast Failure' by the same author!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-10-04
In reality, this is an enhancement of 'The Art of Innovation: Using Intelligent Fast failure' by the same author. The latter was originally published in 1991 by The Penn State University (The Leonard Center for Innovation & Enhancement of Engineering Education).

I had read it enthusiastically (I got it directly from the author) during the early 90's when I felt, as a mechanical engineer by training, I could relate readily to the author's teaching philosophy. I also felt that the author's unique concept of experimenting with creativity would empower me to go forward & experiment with other aspects of my life - research, consultany, training, coaching & personal hobbies. I then moved on, with further inpirations from other authors/books, to establish a strategy consultancy business, run a newsletter as well as operate a small retail outlet in early 1992.

To this day, I still think that this is an excellent book about creativity & innovation in action. It is based on the author's personal experiences in exploring creativity & innovation with some six hundred students who took his 'Failure 101' course at the university. His premise in the book is this: "No issue is more important to the engineer, or entrepreneur, than intelligent failure." He has taught students to unlearn years of practising risk aversion, stressing the connection between creativity & risk. He has encouraged them to realise that failure is essential in developing design skills & judgement.

I strongly recommend reading this book if you are serious about wanting to learn how to manage failure & to develop an appetite for risk in your life &/or your work.

Failure is essential to innovation

Before I read Jack Matson's book, I felt that innovation was a term very foreign to me and something that I could never really do, perhaps because it was too risky. He does a wonderful job breaking it down so that anyone can understand what it means to innovate and how to utilize failure to get ahead. I now realize that innovation is something that I use in my life without even thinking about it. He introduced many concepts to enhance my innovation techniques and now that I have followed his advice, I found that I accomplish more. So far I have passed this book onto many of my friends and they, in turn, have passed it along to others, including CEOs of companies. Make the time to read this book, it will change your perspective on everything!

Excellent advice for greatly expanding your influence
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 1998-09-27
This book helped me understand that ideas are like goods and services - they can be sold- indeed they must be. Prior to reading this book, I didn't understand this and was frustrated with my efforts to share ideas I have to improve the way my organization functions.

This book provides clear and productive ways of selling your ideas. Organizations and individuals tend to be defensive and reluctant to consider new ways of doing things. The Internal Sell describes typical rejections an individual will face and how to overcome them.

Here's what you can expect from this book:

Lack of understanding of the RESISTANCE of three important realities - organizational defensiveness, differences in personality types, and misinterpretation of power and authority - causes people in many organizations to "give up", get frustrated, "moan and groan", or just take their ideas elsewhere. You can expect from The Internal Sell a new sense of CONFIDENCE in a proven approach that will allow:

* Creativity to abound

* Productivity to increase

* Morale to improve, and

* Innovations to occur at a rate that will surprise you.

The concepts and methodology of The Internal Sell work equally well whether you are INSIDE an organization trying to get your good ideas adopted or OUTSIDE as a sales person dependent on someone in the customer organization to be skillful in selling your idea.

The principles within The Internal Sell are also perfect for the organization that has committed millions of dollars for SAP or some other comprehensive enterprise-changing system. It's still the PEOPLE, their CREATIVITY, and their COMMITMENT that will make these massive investments pay off. The Internal Sell will help you to understand how to make your organization OPTIMIZE individual contributions.

I highly recommend this book to readers in all types of organizations and all levels of the organizational hierarchy.

This is a good one!

If you have ever wondered why your ideas aren't embraced by your peers and superiors, you need to read this book. I have always been amazed at how often my ideas either get ignored or worse. This book tells how to put your ideas forth so they will be recognized, accepted, and implemented. If you want to do more than just survive in the corporation you must learn to manipulate the system by "selling" your ideas internally... and the book lays out just how to do that. Friesen makes it look easy.

Give this one a quick read, it was worth it for me.

Excellent, practical guide to critical skill.

Review Date: 1998-11-05
Michael Friesen has identified a skill and function that doesn't show up on job descriptions or performance reviews, but is probably the most critical tool in determining an executive's job satisfaction and career success. That function is selling internally--to others within your own organization. Anyone working in corporate America will recognize the importance of this function as soon as they read Friesen's thesis on it. But more importantly, readers will learn how they have done with this skill in the past and what they can do to sell internally more effectively in the future by reading this book.

Friesen outlines a very clear, logical and systematic process for selling ideas within a company. He gives real-world hints on completing each of the steps within the process, so that readers can develop clear plans for selling their own ideas in a very methodical fashion. The approach is common-sense, but one that most do not employ because of a myriad of reasons Friesen identifies, including organizational defensiveness, egoism, personality traits and just plain ignorance of its importance!

Friesen's book includes lots of anecdotes and cases that we all can relate to easily. These illustrate the fact that one of the most amazing things about this book is that it wasn't written before--the topic is so critical, that one would expect others to have addressed it before this. But Friesen's is a first, and the guide is so definitive that others will not be needed. This is it! A must read.

A must read!...if you are serious about making a major career or life change!
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2006-07-20
This is one of the most pivotal books in my mid-life transition during the early 90's. I was then a corporate rat. I was working in quiet desperation.
I also knew that I would still continue as a rat even if I have succeeded in the corporate world. I was 43 years old then...looking damned good but actually going nowhere!

Together with the Richard Leider's other books (as well as Frederic Hudson's, plus Richard Bolles' books), it dramatically
changed my life for better as I am now doing what I love & loving what I do.

This book introduced me to the authors' Inventurer process model - an excursion into self discovery, during which it
helped me to clarify my inner values, through a series of structured exercises, checklists & reflective questions. Many of the questions were soul searching for me.

Trained as a mechanical engineer, I naturally found some minor parts of the book somewhat esoteric, but on hindsight
I think they are relevant if one is seeking deeper understanding of oneself.

Here are the relevant chapters of the book:

Section 1: The Life Inventure
1 The Inventurers
2 The Postponed Life
3 The Inventurous Life

Section 2: Life Extensions
4 Adult Life Stages
5 Life Cycle Review
6 Alone Toegther

Section 3: ifestyles
7 The Balancing Act
8 Body
9 Mind
10 Spirit
11 Dreams & Goals

Section 4 Work Styles
12 Making a Living Work
13 The Scorecard
14 Skills, the Root of All
15 Survival Skills
16 What Species...?
17 You only Go Round Once
18 Step 1 Your Excursion Map
19 Step 2 Conclusions
20 Step 3 Getting Feedback & Ideas
21 Step 4 Reality Testing

For the uninitiated, an inventurer is just one who is willing to take a fresh, hard look at oneself & consider new options,
venture inward & explore. An inventurer sees life as a series of changes, changes as growth experiences, & growth as positive.

At the onset, what struck me most about this book are the important assumptions which the book is based upon
& the Inventurer process reflects these assumptions. Let me share them with readers as follows by paraphasing the authors:

1 Coping with change: We all have different styles of coping...you need to learn what your style is & how to use it effectively;
2 Untapped abilities: ...you possess much untapped potential that could change your life considerably;
3 Self-direction: The basic ingredient in life & career renewal is choice - the choice of taking responsibility for yourself.
In any situation, you have basically two options: change the situation or change the mindset that is perceiving the situation. The choice is yours alone...
4 Organised planning: Effectively assessing life & career renewal options requires more than new insights...Your reflections must be organised & focused into an action plan...& self discipline is a virtue...
5 Risk taking: Choices involve risks. Risk is the element in career or life...

This is one particular book you have to read it carefully & work with it systematically if you really want to evaluate your life & make it better.

To conclude my review, I strongly recommend this wonderful book to anyone who is thinking about making a major career or life change or anyone seeking just to understand themselves better!

My most recommended book....

The subtitle of this book, "Your Guide to Never Retiring," is misleading. Compared to other books in the field of the lives of older citizens, this is not a guidebook. This volume will not tell you how to deal with taxes, medicare, sex, or estate planning. The other phrase on the front cover is the true description: "65 Inspiring Stories That Can Renew Your Life."

The stories illustrate that people after (you pick the age) have all sorts of opportunities available to them to live life to the fullest. There's no reason to stop-or even slow down-when you reach some chronological milestone. Each of these stories is inspiring unto itself, so you can imagine what a whole book of these anecdotes must be! I enjoyed reading page after page, finding myself eager to return to bed each night to lift this book from my bedside table to learn more.

While the stories are inspiring, they are also instructive. As you learn what people have done with their lives, and look at the positive difference they've made, you'll find yourself challenged to emulate them. Considering carefully the lessons of what they have accomplished-and how they did it, you'll see some stepping stones to the path into your later years. Each of us can make a difference-some large, some much smaller. Reading this book might energize you to make a more significant difference than you believe is possible at the moment.

Enjoy "It's Never Too Late to Plant a Tree," then take some action to make a difference in your life and in the lives of others.
