Life Experience as QuotesReview Date: 2006-09-03
The Quotable Manager is a wonderful collection of high-quality quotes for business managers and anyone seeking to advance in life through wisdom gained by those who have lived through a wide variety of experiences.
The quotes are divided into logical chapters: Attitude, leadership, perseverance, patience, managing, trust, faith, fairness, planning, career, success, failure, integrity, initiative, focusing, innovation, self-discipline, communication, effort and change.
I love the first two pages where a poem by Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936) immediately presents inspiration. The famous individuals featured in the chapters include: Margaret Thatcher, Winston Churchill, Bill Gates, Albert Einstein, Oprah Winfrey and many more.
"You have two choices in life: You can dissolve into the mainstream or you can be distinct. To be distinct, you must be different. To be different, you must strive to be what no one else but you can be." ~Alan Ashley-Pitt
As I read through this wonderful book I wrote down about 10 quotes I wanted to keep close at hand. There is also a lovely ribbon marker so you can keep your place while reading through this collection of inspiring quotes. This would make a perfect gift for your boss, friends, business leaders and anyone who wants to be more successful.

Style simply done for our fast paced livingReview Date: 2002-02-27
The recipes are not forboding or complex, but yet are very sophisticated, rich and easy to find ingredients and prep techniques. Some that especially attract my tastebuds are: Roasted Game Hens Stuffed under the sking with Herbed Ricotta; Duck Breasts with Cherry-Cabernet Sauce; Crown Roast of Pork with "Triple a" Stuffing; Beet and Champagne Risotto.
This is extremely well-organized which makes it simple and easy to use. Divided into major sections of Casual Suppers, Big-Deal Meals, Parties (with five listed) and Ways with Take-Aways. What is also an attractive feature throughout is Primers on various topics such as "D-I-Y Bar" Caviar, etc., Style Notes where thoughts on plates, centerpieces, etc. are shared.
Those looking for entertaining aid will find true, stylish relief from this delightfully done resource.

Do you feel healthier when you call in sick?Review Date: 2008-05-30
Of course, it just might be that you need another job more than you need this book! However, the truth is that no matter where you go -- there you are! Stress follows you from one job to another. There's always another crazy co-worker. The people on the subway or highway will be every bit as crazy no matter what workplace you are headed for.
What to do? Learn to handle the stress and reduce it with the tools in Reducing Stress (DK Essential Managers.) Wether you are in management or the lowest person on the corporate ladder, you'll find this book to be a useful tool for life. It's simple, to the point, and addresses issues that will change your life.

The more I minimized it the more it grew. I never were more confused until I re-read the book only to find the line I thought I've read and there it was saying "Stress is infectious".
Soon after, I said bad-bye to the job of my dreams which shocked
the world around me when they knew how madly in love I was with that workplace. Then as I have felt it in the beginning it turned
up to be that I was drowning and that if I didn't quit that job I would have refused myself the lifejacket So my advice to all of you who deal with stupid stress generator people is :
BE BLIND, DEAF and ignore them IF YOU are that strong,
or If you're weak like "I was" create a lifejacket
for yourself,
grab it, swim to some other place. And as you know it the biggest
city on earth which must have billions
of work positions available is not even bigger than your smallest nail - when you look at it in the globe and an usual globe
is bigger than thousands of nails put together :) Think about it!
Something else that may help you too is Charlie Chaplin's
saying
"Life is a tragedy when you look at it in close up but a Comedy in long shot".
This could help anyone in the workplace!Review Date: 2001-05-08
Let's admit it. Work and life in general can be stressful. How we cope with stress can be a key to our success. This book will show you how to reorganize your work practices. It also explains how thinking positively can reduce stress.
"Make sure your home office is separate from your living space." -pg 25
Well, I fail that one.
"Start each day stress-free by straightening up the night before." -pg. 40
This works!
Learning to say no is something I really have to work on. Some people do find it difficult to say no because they are afraid of causing offense. Sometimes you just have to be assertive, after all, it is your life!
There is a section on making a time to relax. there are exercises and relaxation techniques you can use and this makes the book very practical. Deep breaths, deep breaths....there, see you feel so much better now. If anything helps, breathing will!

Another Stress BookReview Date: 2005-10-12
I opened this book with an expectation that I might find some new secrets...perhaps a whole new approach to how workers-individually and collectively-could function much differently. What I found was another book on stress. Others may see some new ideas, but I've read a lot in this field so my expectations are probably higher than the average reader.
The text is organized to explain resilience-essentially having the inner strength to cope because you're doing a good job at managing change. The authors describe this as developing hardiness, the foundation of their Hardiness Institute. The book reports on a 12-year longitudinal study of employees at Illinois Bell Telephone. The stress of all the change over the years caused the departure or failure of two-thirds of the workers. The survivors practiced effective stress management techniques. The keys they promote include approaching change as a challenge, developing sound problem-solving strategies, resolving conflicts, and building commitment.
Readers will find an abundance of case studies that make points for the authors, teaching techniques and offering examples to stimulate thought.

HAS THE POTENTIAL OF OFFERING YOU PROFOUND PERSONAL GROWTH.Review Date: 1999-04-02
Central to Branden's insights for leading and managing are six practices (ways of living) essential to building self-esteem: being at a high level of consciousness, self-acceptance and acceptance of others, self-responsibility, self-assertiveness, purposefulness and personal integrity. This book is geared to self development-for helping anyone develop the qualities that underlie a healthy sense of self and effectiveness in living. Branden provides the reader with a 21 week personal development program that has enormous potential, provided you approach it with commitment and sincerity!
Branden's ideas offer the prospect of profound personal growth. The implications of his thinking for creating a highly effective organization should be thought about deeply by leaders. If you are embarked on organizational change, you should read this book before charging forward. Recommended. Brilliant, effective guideReview Date: 2006-01-17
I was introduced to Dr. Caliandro by way of Marble Collegiate Church in NYC, an inclusive Christian community that he leads. Before reading "Simple Things" I read a number of his sermons and articles, drawn by his consistent voice of love and encouragement. I found "Simple Steps" to be equally inspiring; reading it is like having a best friend and cheerleader by your side.
Dr. Caliandro's message is a simple one of happiness, freedom, and personal growth; the fulfillment of our birthright. However, the real power of his words is in putting them into action; like other worthy endeavors, it's not easy, goes slow at times, but is ultimately rewarding. In other words, he provides a great map for the journey that is ours to take.
This is a great book to read through quickly (like a story book), then open up again to absorb and practice the 10 simple steps.
In style, you can hear/feel the influence of Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, his predecessor. And like Peale, Caliandro's voice rings with energy, inspiration and great love. Though not a religious book per se, the principles of various religious beliefs are apparent.
PS - I also watched the video, "Simple Steps: Ten Things You Can Do to Create an Exceptional Life" which was a good compliment to this book. If you're not ready or willing to commit to both, check your local library and preview before you buy. Whatever you decide, it's time --and money -- well spent.
