This book is a must have for all women who aspire to succeed in any business. It contains numerous uplifting career advice from women in management - a definite guide in dealing with various issues in the work place. Very informative and inspiring; I could not put it down. Highly recommended!

Girls' Guide To Power & Success invites a contemplation and discussion of girls' roles in a male-dominated world, examining the characteristics of men and women and those which could help females become stronger in the business world. Tips are wide-ranging and include a variety of powerful insights.

Interesting and concise read. I enjoyed it but my only qualm is that there are various typos and grammatical errors in the book. Maybe I'm picky because I've done a lot of proofing in my profession but it was very annoying when I came across an error...

Author and consultant Susan Wilson Solovic tells how working women can be more effective in top positions and move up the career ladder. She highlights the differences between male and female styles and cites ways that women often sabotage themselves by showing weakness and a lack of confidence in how they speak and act. Using examples and diverse quotes, she illustrates what women should do to express the power they have, which is the key to being taken seriously as a leader. Solovic challenges many overly optimistic beliefs about how things have changed for women in the U.S. workforce and backs up her assertions with recent statistics and research. We [...] highly recommend this book, which provides a welcome strategic reminder that is clearly directed toward businesswomen - though why call them girls? Oh, that's a little irony from the author or, at least we hope so.

Susan Solovic's "The Girls' Guide to Power and Success" puts it right back in our laps. We have to make the changes in our expectations and behavior. She provides the motivation and the tools.

Little has changed in the last 50 years except that there are more women in titled positions. With these titles came no change in the lack of independence from male persuasion in decision making. We're still doing it their way.

Time for women to step up to the plate, read Solovic's book and march to our own drummers.

How to Succeed in Business Without Being White: Straight Talk on Making It in America

As a journalist, I have spent time professionally with Mr. Earl G. Graves, and he is the embodiment of his values, principles, inspiration and ideas that are expressed in this enduring success book. Readers are guaranteed by Graves' character to be richer for reading the thoughts and actions of the author.

I was surprised and disappointed with the level of bitterness that laced the pages of 'How to Succeed...,' by Earl Graves. That the U.S. remains racially divided is an unfortunate given, it has always been and will always be so. Mr. Graves pays little, if any, attention to the merits of early childhood education and the importance it holds later in life. I came across Black Enterprise magazine roughly twenty years ago and I fell in love with his concept of "delayed gratification," and the level of logic I thought the concept represents. With that in mind, I was expecting a methodical and proven strategy for success in America in spite of racism. Although this book does give the requisite good advice, (debt elimination and education) it's more a treatise of bitterness, than a self-help book of business mobility.

Earl Graves is one of the greatest and Prominent entrepreneurs in America. His business strategies and inside information and wisdom will help advance any aspiring entrepreneur. I highly recommend this book, it should be included in every business persons library.

A Phenomenal read! Earl G. Graves provides African Americans and all Americans effective strategies on what it takes to live the American Dream. I truly enjoyed the section titled, The Top Ten Reasons. A descendent of Barbados, The CEO of Black Enterprise Magazine explains how with determination you can have and become anything you desire in life despite of your race.

I like Earl Graves' message with this book. He is very straightforward in principles of success in business and he is very good about giving credit where credit is due. He gives strong advice and has the track record (and magazine) to prove it.

Lots of solid ideas and a great roadmap for getting noticed, creating a buzz and making sales.

Even if you are an advanced and experienced internet marketer, this enlightening book by Ken MacArthur is a must read.

IMPACT has forced me to make a solid and calmed recap of all that I have learned about internet marketing during two years of compulsive purchasing and avid reading of downloadable courses and ebooks (much of the them not worth the price I paid) about this matter.

With his simple, close and clear tone, Ken MacArthur covers all the key matters that you need to know if you want to impact others in a positive way - especially if you want to make your voice listened by thousands with respect and receptivity.

He gives you the keys to make your "impact" system, the rest is up to you... Once you have read the book, don't stop... you must to take actions that Ken has showed you. You should take lots of notes when reading this book.

If you are a beginner in the internet marketing arena, I have no doubt that you will save an important amount of time and money (not like me) if you read this book. I wish it had fallen into my hands two years ago!

Also Ken's teaching goes beyond the mere book. As a continuation of it Ken has a website that contains quality complementary information and resources. As stated on the back cover of the book, Ken offers ... "A free step-by-step guide with hundreds of hours of audio and video instructions to help you create your personal impact plan."

Although this book has a lot of helpful and interesting information, it suffers from a key problem - it doesn't know what kind of book it is. By that I mean that author Ken McArthur seems as if he was at times penning a self-help book, then a very technical how-to book, or was it a how to make a lot of money book, or maybe it was a book warning about the perils of selling an online product, or maybe it was about the difficulties of making a lot of money - wait no, it's an inspirational/motivational book. All these areas are covered to some extent, and give the book a kind of haphazard feel. When you get to an interesting section, it's like driving on an otherwise mediocre scenic tour and suddenly coming upon a really beautiful site.

The book is also at times a frustrating read because McArthur covers important topics on a general level, leaving the reader thirsting for a very specific example. Take online products. Please provide a specific, detailed example. He gets specific at the end when he talks about his online product, but even there it not detailed enough. Maybe this book was really just promotional material to go to his website and buy his product.

Part of me wants to give it a 4, but I think a 3 is more justified because in the end I am left with the feeling that there surely are other authors with more focused things to say.

One last thing - a pet peeve. I really don't like when authors quote themselves in a book. What's up with placing your own quotes in shaded boxes? If something is really quotable, it should be done by readers and not by the authors.

I'm a teacher, software creator, and internet marketing coach. When I got this book from a seminar recently, I thought it would be a nice addition to my library that I would read "some" day when I wasn't so busy.

One day my internet connection went on the blink. I was annoyed, but decided to spend my time productively instead of whining. I chose to read Ken's book, Impact. After all, he had signed it for me at the Masters Seminar in Chicago.

The book captivated me as did the author.

A few pages into the book, I saw my instant messenger pop back up. I had tons of action steps written for the day, yet to be done, but I was not about to put the book down. I was like a sponge soaking up life for myself and my business. I could relate so well to everything he was saying. He gives solid, usable content, not just concepts or fluff.

It is clear that he is an expert marketer because he understands every aspect of marketing-but he especially gets how valuable relationships are to building a true foundation of a successful business.

It is officially on my "must read" list for my internet marketing students.

The book covers crucial information on publicity, psychology, leveraging, launch strategies, building revenue, outsourcing, automating, and much more that every serious marketer should know. The resources inside the book are amazing, but he goes a step further and adds bonus links to resources online for those who want more.

It doesn't matter if you are a new affiliate marketer or own a thriving business-you'll enjoy and benefit from reading this book. You'll thank me later if you just click the order button now. It's that good.

I have a 1975 copy of this book, with pages that have lost their binding and it doesn't stop me from going over and over the pages for new insights as I move towards my goals and dreams. When I first began studying the mind, this book helped me to understand the incredible powers that I hold within myself. I learned about integrity, resistence, and how to overcome any difficult situation like a true leader.

I learned about the importance of controlling my emotions, in order to be a true leader. I love the question and answer format in this book that allows me to follow along with whatever questions I might be having. The answers hold so much wisdom and direction, that self-change is imminent.

This book is very deep and requires serious thought as you go through each chapter. If you want to rise above life's daily pressures, and use the power of your supermind to move you towards your desired end result, this book is a must read! I think its time for me to invest in a new copy of this gem of a book that will always be on my Top 20 list of "must reads!"

I bought this book used for like 1.50 and some change for shipping. If anyone had any idea that the end of suffering could come about by a transformation beginning from a little book on amazon for 1.50, I think they'd laugh at the idea. This man definately knows what he is talking about and although I have already been practicing work on myself, many new ideas are also introduced. 5 stars get the book.

This book is one of the better books on spirituality, not the best but one of the better. It has heaps of good ideas, thoughts and wisdom. every pages is a new insight. The drawback for me was that it was too much on ideas , so many that I could be thinking too much after about it.I cannot be hard on this book because as I say compared to most others on the market these days it is very good.

After reading "Mystic Path to Cosmic Consciousness", and "Esoteric Mind Power", I thought that any other writtings by Vernon Howard would just repeat what I had already read. I can safely recommend this book along with the other two. Some ideas do overlap, but many bring clarification. Just read my reviews on the other two books to get an idea of what this book has to offer.
There may be more sophistocated writtings on the subject of self awakening, but none written in such plain English, squeezing as much insight into one book as there books by Vernon Howard.

Dr. Misner does a good job of seperating fact from myth for those who use networking as a means to grow their business. While any business can benefit from networking the application is especially helpful for small companies and entrepreneurs. No one is a greater authority than Dr. Misner on the subject of networking. Whether you are an experienced networker or are just starting to build your network this book is an excellent guide to maximizing your efforts.

The authors of this book are experts in the field of Network Marketing. This is a short read full of information that you can refer to over and over. If you are a network marketer you owe it to yourself to purchase this book for your library.

This is a book for relationship marketing or networking for sales. However if you're looking for a broader book on networking in a professional arena then this is not the book for you. I purchased this book thinking the content would cover the later but I was sadly disappointed. Perhaps the term `networking' has other connotations in the US where many of the other reviews were written.

We all have very busy lives and to have a book that will clear up the BIGGEST MYTHS in networking in just 49 points....IT'S GREAT! Taking the quiz and scoring it before you read the book is a MUST! One thing I have learned directly from Dr. Misner is that "you don't know what you don't know!" Do any of us want to be out there networking incorrectly? NO....but what if we dont know if we are doing it right or not? This book is the solution! We can all learn something new, and this book wont let you down! Being involved in BNI and the Referral Institute, it has been great learning from Dr. Misner, Mike Macedonio, and Mike Garrison. This book is a collaboration on items that they teach all the time! It is a GOTTA HAVE IT, GOTTA LIVE IT, GOTTA GIVE IT TO MY NETWORK MEMBERS so they can do the same...type of book. Order it now, and dont forget some for your network too!

Only an absolute madman would give his wife the keys to the family finances!

Unfortunately, I had to learn this lesson the hard way. Growing up in a liberal democrat household, my parents told me all this nonsense about how men and women should co-pilot the marriage. When I did eventually get married, I carried out my parent's instructions. I told my wife she didn't have to change her last name, went to all her feminist happenings, and last but not least, I bestowed upon her the family wallet.

I was a complete rube!

Even though, being a man, I made almost twice as much as she did, she spent all the money! Whenever I would come home from a hard day's work, there would be bags from Bloomingdales, Macy's, Bath and Body Works, and every other store women frequent, all over the house! My wife spent me into the poor house.

If that wasn't bad enough, when she found out my money was gone she split! There I was alone and in debt thanks to my parents silly liberal ideals. I went to them and asked them how their marriage worked with such flawed thinking. Then they sprung it on me. "We never were married, son. We liberals have evolved past that archaic pastime." My father stated sternly.

"Then you never gave her control over the finances?" I asked naively, eyes wide with innocence.

"Me? Give your mother control over the money? You gotta be putting me on. That feminism stuff is fine on paper, but I wouldn't recommend actually trying it out." He walked away with a sadistic chuckle.

Ellie Kay does a masterful job helping families manage finances. In fact, the book should be titled, Family Guide to Finances, because she has the whole family involved! Having been raised by immigrant parents whose values helped me to become a responsible spender, saver, donator, Ellie's book still offers reasons to keep reading--from the eight money-saving/spending personalities (including, Love Ya Louie and Balanced Betty), resources for saving money online, keeping track of what we spend, to the Money Pyramid (starting with 10% FUN money). Most of all, her stories and digressions make this a real page-turner filled with valuable nuggets.

Written with light humor, this book on a serious subject is a delight to read. Ellie writes as if she is sitting across a cafe table, drinking coffee with you. What makes the book fun to read - and interesting so you keep turning those pages - is that Ellie uses experiences from her own life and turns them into lessons for readers.

The advice Ellie gives in her book is rock solid and makes perfect sense, and she doesn't just tell you what to do, she gives the reader steps on how to do it.

This book is not a "How to Get Rich" book. It does not delve into the dark mysterious sometimes boring world of the inner workings of stocks, bonds, banks or international finances. "A Woman's Guide to Family Finances" is a book that tells, step by step, what a woman can do to get herself out of debt and into the black in the most painless, easy to understand methods possible.

Chapters begin with interesting information, usually a personal experience Ellie has had. She then tells the lesson she learned from her experience. Then she lists the steps taken to correct the problem or make the success discussed.

I would recommend this book to any woman, no matter what stage of your life you are in. Young and just beginning to "I'm too old to change" (which I don't believe is ever true).

This book gives practical advice to any woman interested in getting control of family finances, whether she is married, single with kids or on her own.
It also includes help for financial recovery for the deeply in debt and for the suddenly unemployed.
Divided into two sections, Ellie Kay jumps into the hard truth with "Where Did All The Dough Go?"

In this section there are action steps such as Ten Tips to Save Ten Bucks in Ten Minutes (or less) and establishing a household budget, based on The Fifty Thousand Dollar Pyramid
This section is packed with useful information about everything from choosing a mortgage to garage sales and Ebay.

The last chapter brings home the spiritual reason for being financially secure. - So that we can give generously, in very practical ways, to those in need.
I enjoyed Ms Kay's entertaining sense of humor, which got me through even the painful areas of `self-recognition' and 'plastic (credit card) surgery'.

Ms. Kay shows in easy to understand chapters how to budget, how to save on essentials, how to go on a debt diet, and how to weather financial set-backs, including losing your job and looking for a new place of employment.

I don't usually like to read how-to books, but this book reads like a good novel. I had to keep reading. I learned some really valuable tips and relearned others that I'd forgotten and am looking forward to putting my new budget into operation.

A WOMAN'S GUIDE TO FAMILY FINANCES is a book to read through once, but then come back to time and again as you are ready to make more financial changes. She advices you start small and build your way up so you don't go into shock and stop trying to save money. Whether you are a born spender or saver, A WOMAN'S GUIDE TO FAMILY FINANCES is a book for a keeper shelf to be read and studied over and over. I'd recommend having your teenagers read it too, especially if they are soon to be on their own.

It gives brief summary of each book, which can later be used to buy specific books that you want to read entirely.

There's a knee-jerk reaction to think of success as being defined by money and material things alone. This book encompasses that,but goes far beyond it into the realm of defining what real gratification means. The author begins by presenting a list of factors that are elemental to achieving success:
1. Optimism
2. Definite vision
3. Willingness to work
4. Discipline
5. An integrated mind
6. Prolific reading
7. Risk taking
8. Realizing the power of expectation
9. Mastery
10. Well roundedness.

"The 50 Success Classics" are divided into four categories: motivation,fulfilling your potential,prosperity,and leadership. The summaries of the classics themselves are excellent. But one of the real added benefits of the book is the author's astute commentaries, highlighting important points,and providing enhancement to the wise words of each classic. This is a terrific motivational book. I use it not just for my own stimulation, but with my management students also.

"The 50 Success Classics" provides wisdom from those whose names are immediately recognizable: Andrew Carnegie,Steven Covey,Michael Dell, Warren Buffett, Ben Franklin,Sam Walton, and many others. Any prospective purchaser can be assured that in spite of the fame of these and others mentioned in the book that there are many new facts and insights to be gained. (The summaries are far superior to the standard re-hash of the familiar that we've all seen.)

While the names above are common knowledge to most,have you heard of Robert Collier,Les Giblin,Gracian,Richard Wiseman,or in the case of men,the well known women's motivator Cheryl Richardson? All of these summaries contain sage advice and excellent guides for daily living. There are other great lessons to be learned from other "unknowns", at least to many of us.

The book also contains a summary of Sun Tzu's classic "The Art of War", arguably one of the greatest military stategy manuals of all time,which has also been recently adapted for use in management. After reading "50 Success Classics" you'll want to continue in the same vein, with Tom Butler-Bowdon's other "Success Classics" on Inspiration, and on Prosperity.They have all been a great help to me.

There are already a number of views outlining what this book is about, how it works, which books are included. I will skip doing that and try to think now of some of the 'lessons' I learned from reading the author's summaries of these works ( which so far as I can tell are done in an excellent way)
One lesson which seems to be paramount is the importance of attitude. 'Trust yourself, every heart vibrates to that iron string" says Emerson who is I believe one of the fathers of this whole yea- saying business. The 'trust yourself' also extends to having a positive attitude towards others, avoiding argument and criticism. An important lesson is to smile and be upbeat in dealings with others. It is also recommended to be honest and forthright in dealing with others.A third great lesson is the importance of 'seizing the opportunity when it is there' having the courage to do so. A fourth lesson which is repeated more than once is in finding 'opportunity in adversity' and in some transformation in life. The idea is here is that life is changing all the time and some of that change is certainly not for the better. And one has to be continually ready to change with it.
I could go on listing the different pieces of advice here, and they truly are various and interesting.
What I am thinking about is about all those like myself who will never take much of this advice, and probably never be 'successes' in the way the people who write here are.
I too am not sure that the sense of what success is here (It is as I understand it by and large- success in business )is the kind of success a considerable body of people truly long for.
I too think of a different attitude towards success,held by those who long for success, and will not attain it. And the fact that not succeeding may in some ways and in certain ways prove a more valuable experience than success itself. Perhaps this is best expressed in these lines of Emily Dickinson.

by those who ne'er succeed

Author, Your Daily Walk with the Great Minds and Upcoming Release of Eastern Wisdom for Your Soul.

50 Self-Help Classics: 50 Inspirational Books to Transform Your Life, From Timeless Sages to Contemporary Gurus
50 Success Classics: Winning Wisdom for Life and Work from 50 Landmark Books
50 Spiritual Classics: Timeless Wisdom from 50 Great Books on Inner Discovery, Enlightenment and Purpose

In the first instance, I have bought these three books in one go because I have been fascinated by what the author had done: He has practised what is known as the highest level of reading. Mortimer Adler, in his classic book, 'How to Read a Book', written in the forties, had called it 'syntopical reading'. It's actually reading a number of books of the same genre, more or less simultaneously & then synthesising the key points.

Secondly, the author, who is a graduate of the London School of Economics, somehow impresses me with his ability to synthesise the big picture of each of the books that made up the entire collection. For apparently a left-brain thinker i.e. economist by training, this has been a very remarkable feat, as his synthesising endeavour has been essentially more of a right-brain activity. Well, I must compliment him for a job well done.

Before my final decision on buying the three books, I have been thrilled by the prospect of reading three books, which in turn will give me access to one hundred & fifty books.

For each book, the author has very artfully as well as skillfully selected fifty books to made up one collection. I may not agree with his selection, but I must admit that I can't default him at all.

Take the first book, '50 Self Help Classics', with timeless wisdom, as an example. Out of the fifty books he has selected, I have read only seventeen of them. I have those books in my personal library.

For the second book, '50 Success Classics', I have read & still own sixteen of the landmark books on winning wisdom selected by the author.

For the third & final book, '50 Spiritual Classics', covering timeless sages & contemporary gurus, I have read only & still own three of them, namely 'The Tao of Physics', 'The Way of the Peaceful Warrior' & 'Zen & the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance'.

For those books I have read previously, totaling thirty-six of them (probably stretching over three decades of my life), & upon revisiting them again in the trilogy, which actually took me one whole weekend to complete, starting on Friday evening & finishing on Sunday night, I must say that the seemingly marathon reading experience has been very refreshing & uplifting. It has also given me the opportunity to check & verify whether the author has captured the key ideas or essence of those books. I don't think I can find fault with the author in this respect.

Not only that, in the first book, I am very impressed that the author has cut through the bewildering array of choices to bring the essential ideas, insights, and techniques from the `literature of possibilities'. In works that span the world's religions, cultures, philosophies, & centuries, he summarizes each work's key ideas & finally makes clear how these legendary classics can educate, affirm, & motivate anyone searching for the inspiration to make a meaningful life change.

In the second book, the author is back with his wide-ranging collection of enduring works from pioneering thinkers, philosophers, & powerful leaders, like Napoleon Hill, Stephen Covey, Kenneth Blanchard, Baltasar Gracian & Christopher Maurer; from the inspirational rags to riches stories of such entrepreneurs, like Andrew Carnegie, Warren Buffet & Sam Walton to the leadership lessons of Sir Ernest Shackleton, Eleanor Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln & Nelson Mandela, just to name a few.

In the third book, I believe the author has captured the very best in spiritual writing: They include personal diaries & compelling biographies of such diverse figures as Gandhi, Malcolm X, & Black Elk & Eastern philosophers & gurus including Krishnamurti, Yogananda, Chögyam Trungpa & Suzuki; & Western saints & mystics such as St. Francis of Assisi, Herman Hesse & Simone Weil. For each book in this volume, the author offers insightful commentary on how these classics can help spiritual seekers everywhere bring personal beliefs, values & practices squarely into the center of their every day lives.

Reading the three foregoing books has been quite a breeze because the meaning of each work is initially captured 'in a nut shell' at the onset, coupled with a representative quote as well as cross-referencing to similar work. In each work, appropriate sectional headings in bold print make it really easy for the reader to follow the author's train of thoughts over some six pages. There is also a short biographical sketch of the author of the respective work.

I must admit that the third book in the trilogy has been the most challenging for me to read as I normally do not go for such stuff. To put it bluntly, it's not my cup of tea. On the other hand, the curiosity streak in me has been too overwhelming, since I relish the thought that I could read fifty spiritual classics in just one book!

Overall, & for all those books I have not yet read at all (some of which I have not even heard of), I really enjoyed digesting the author's bite-sized summaries (in actuality, they are only the main ideas, context & impact of each title, to give a taste of the literature, so to speak) in the three collections or volumes, even though some of the titles are relatively esoteric for me. The entire reading journey has been enlightening, inspirational & yet humbling in some areas. Best of all, there are useful tools & practical techniques to take away from each collection!

For the first & last book in the trilogy, namely, '50 Self Help Classics' & '50 Spirtual Classics', the author has respectively provide a list of additional 50 books. The titles are certainly enticing! Well, all I can say is this: I wish the author will repeat his syntopical reading exercise covering these books & add two more volumes, that will make a quintulogy, for all the readers out there, including me!

As usual, all my three books are now scribbled with my own hand-written marginal annotations as well as my fancy colour marker symbols. Additionally, there are also colourful sticky notes in between selected pages. My next personal assignment is to transfer all these notations into mindmaps with Mindmanager Pro.

To end my review, I have one last humble comment to make. Out of the one hundred & fifty bite-sized summaries, I still don't quite get it from 'The Bhagavad-Gita' as outlined in the author's '50 Self Help Classics'. I have not read this work before although I have heard about it. [J Y Pillay, former Chairman of Singapore Airlines, who is credited for building the airline to what it is today, A Great Way to Fly, has vouched for this ancient Hindu scripture as an inspiration for his leadership success during an interview.] However, in the same vein, I found that I could relate quickly to Deepak Chopra's 'The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success' but simply not this one! I may have to explore other avenue.

In site of the above minor short-coming, I strongly believe that the three books in the author's trilogy are really an intellectual treasure!

Jim Rohn's wisdom is simple and easy to understand. I personally am a great fan of his work, have seen him live, listen to all his audios & read all his books. For anyone looking to be successful in life this is a must read!

This is an excellent book to teach a network marketing representative to become a better person and richer in character as well as monetarily. I recommend Jim Rohn to everyone who would like to have his/her spirit lifted and his/her character built in many ways.

I've read many books by Jim Rohn and every last one has been an excellent inspirational read. This one is no different.

There are fundamental truths that stand as unchanging foundations for success concerning human achievement. Since the beginning of time there have been men who've mastered and accepted these principles and have gone on to accomplish thier most creative visions due to the application of those principles and thier overwhelming desire to succeed. Authors have captured and written down these truths from the beginning of time-even in books such as the bible. Every approach to learning these secrets have been different due to the mindset of each generation.

Jim Rohn uncovers these priciples and sheds light on them in a simplistically refreshing way that allows for motivation towards articulating and aligning ones desires toward a worthwhile destiny. I think Jim Rohn once again does an excellent job at capturing the secret and translating it into understandable text for our consumption. I would recommend this book to anyone with an open mind willing enough to search themselves and uncover thier untapped potential.

If you don't have all of Jim Rohn's books, you are not complete. Don't think about this one, BUY IT right now!

I have read so many self-help books that are okay and even good, but they're all just pep-talks. This little book is absolutely riveting! After 6 pages, I was shocked, blown away, and had to stop reading and walk around to digest the simplicity and truthfulness of Mr. Rohn's ideas. This is not just another pep-talk. This book tells EXACTLY what to do to acheive your goals; broken all the way down to blocks on graph paper. If you never read another self-help book, read this one.

This book contained a lot of advice that I already knew, and some that I didn't know or think about in the past. But reading it all one place gave me the motivation I need to get out of the cube!

When I think of books on being your own boss and running a business, I imagine stuffy old text with boring design and content that wouldn't relate to me either on a generational basis or as a woman. This book defies those stereotypes. Not only is the design fun, casual, and appealing, the author's voice and writing style make the book both approachable and also impossible to put down.

My favorite parts of the book include the summary in list format at the end of each chapter, as well as all the anecdotes and profiles from other successful female business owners. I personally wish there would have been more graphic design related stories in the book as it would have related to me even more, but honestly the stories and quotes all share the same basis of inspiration and goals for women wanting to start their own business.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to start their own enterprise. You will not be disappointed.

This guide is a great way to think through all the ramifications of "living outside the cubical" BEFORE you commit to that lifestyle. The advice is concrete and practical, and extremely helpful for taking your dreams out of your head and putting them into reality.

In making the transition from a full-time job to starting my own gig, I found this book very helpful. Not only did it explain different options for making the leap, but it helps those who don't know what they want to do outside of the cube figure it out. I found the conversational tone of the book to keep the pages turning while offering credible, sound advice.

This book was kind of fun to read. I liked the author's frankness and humor. But I wasn't particularly impressed with how the title of the book was matched to its content. The book totes itself as a supposedly helpful career guide for young women just out of high school or maybe college who work in a cubical in an office environment. And it explains how young women can do some investigating and networking to learn about opportunities outside of a cube. But many of the opportunities discussed in this book were 9 to 5 JOBS. And the title says it is against such career moves.

I would have liked the book much better if it had stuck to explaining how to get out of a cube and make the transition into self-employment. Or if the title were changed, I would have like the book much better if it had only explained how to escape a cube into a more meaningful and lucrative job with an office or a company car. Of course, I wouldn't have pulled this book from the bookstore shelf if it was about the latter because I pretty much just review books that relate to my volunteering for SCORE, the small business coaching nonprofit.

The part of the book that I enjoyed the most was the author's story of how she had found herself stuck in a cube at age 24 and not doing what she wanted to do with her life - which was to do freelance writing. She decided to quit her job and start her own freelancing small business. And she found she couldn't make money at it at first - but she was resourceful and started temping in order to pay her bills while she got her business off the ground. Of course, I would have liked her story better if she were to have said she got her business WELL off the ground within a year or two. But unfortunately she says she continues to dabble in temping jobs from time to time to make ends meet. That doesn't sound like she has really accumulated enough of her own success to be writing this book, but some company did publish it and there are quite a number of positive book reviews posted on Amazon for it. So who am I to judge?

My favorite chapters were "I want a more flexible work schedule" (4), and "I want to be my own boss" (6). These two chapters were right on point when it comes to dumping a day job and starting one's own business. And in the book's appendix I very much liked "A Temp's Survival Guide" and "Boss in a Box." The "Must-See Resources" section in the appendix also seemed to be fairly informative. The checklists at the end of each chapter were well-thought out, too. 4 stars!

While it is good to forgive and have an attitude of gratitude, I didn't get a lot out of this one. You might be better off reading the seven habits of highly effective people about sharpening the axe and then going to church.

These steps are simple ones that consider the value of service to others, willingness to keep learning and accept change, and more, and focuses in on the elements which really make for happiness. No other book provides such easy lessons - and such specific connections.

This book is the best motivational / self help book I have yet read. The six steps in this book are easy to use in every day life. The book is clear and to the point. The Daily Six are steps that anyone can follow. Of all the self help books I have ever read, this one contains the best advice I have ever heard.
