The Papalagui, an enlightening book !Review Date: 2005-07-23
Touiavii, the wise man of the Tiavéa tribe has observed with length the behaviour pattern of the "white people".His view full of love and lightness still show us were we missed the point. He talk about time and money, two terrible invention that are making us insane. He explain to his people not to follow us in our arrogance against nature and our chronical lack of wisdom.
our school look to him more like brainwashing...
He spoke in a very poetic and metaphorical langage that goes very very deep, as quoted " it is the pride of the papalagui that leads him to disaster ! and why ? Despite this point is the smallest, it is most essentiel as it is the entry to the highest knowledge, the one detained only by the great spirit !
But this entry is always closed and his best magical eyes[microscope of any kind and particle accelerators!! yes you can grin ]have not been inside. The great-spirit never allow his secret to be taken.Never.[...] even the cleverest PApalagui agree on this point, yet the people sick of over-thinking keep going.
this passage has been translated from a french version.i did my best, but any error would be my humble responsability.

DISSERTATION ...
RECOMMENDE CHALEUREUSEMENT A TOUS !

The Paradise WithoutReview Date: 2006-04-13
One reviewer said that Traherne invokes the sense you get in Van Morrison and William Blake. I quite agree. Traherne is not about quietism or pietism, his paradise is without in the sense that it's a way of loving the divine by meditation on and experiencing the creation. Many people today love to experience the outdoors, but Traherne lets that experience lead naturally to a sense of gratitude and oneness.
"Centuries" refers not to the passing of one hundred years but simple means one hundred meditations. Traherne wrote his book for a female friend, dedicating it simply "to the friend of my Friend." In one of my favorite meditations he wonders why men spare no effort to obtain diamonds because they shine like the stars, but yet neglect the celestial stars, provided by the Creator for our enjoyment and far surpassing the finest cut stones.
Since most of the readily available editions of Centuries are abridgements or edited versions and not the complete text, or new modern translations, I don't know if this meditation is included in them. The complete Centuries is well worth tracking down, and this book serves as an introduction and invitation to regain this nearly-lost paradise.
