For anyone interested in Greek and Roman antiquity in Asia Minor, the works of Louis Robert are a must. Noms is a good place to begin, as this book displays many of Robert's best qualities in ways more accessible than in some of his more technical epigraphic and numismatic publications. From the apparently unlikely premiss that names can tell us more than we may think, Robert weaves a marvelous tapestry of life in Asia Minor that brings out the complex relations between local populations and their Greek and Roman rulers, all done with a stunning command of an absolutely vast array of evidence.

Clear, complete and updated book of Mexican History
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.

The original version of this book "Historia Minima de Mexico" became a useful reference for anybody interested in learning the basics of Mexican History. I used the original edition as a child and as a teenager.

This new edition "Nueva Historia Minima de Mexico" retains the clear language and systematic approach of the first edition. The authors are different but the clarity is the same. As you go thru its pages you will learn from Prehispanic cultures to the latest and most significant events in Mexico in the year 2000.

This edition is updated, expanded and a great introductory text. If you are learning Mexican History from zero read this book first. It will be a good foundation.

Photographs record rehearsals and performances of Le Jeune Homme et La Mort. A dramatic ballet by Roland Petit from a libretto of Jean Cocteau and stirring music by Bach. Rudolf Nureyev and Zizi Jeanmaire are outstanding in their portrayals of the Young Man who is seduced by Death. Performance may be seen on the DVD: Zizi Jeanmaire Dances Roland Petit.

GREAT book for ocean studies!

I'm a homeschooling mom, and I'm always looking for activities for our various units. I stumbled upon this book while looking for other ocean books at the library. It really is great "for all ages." While some of the quiz material is a little difficult for the younger set, the experiments, maps and various word finds and crosswords could be done by children as young as five. It covers everything from the water cycle to ocean ecology to sea animals. The experiments and card and board games work very well with visual learners. A VERY comprehensive study of the ocean! Two thumbs up!

This is a very edicational, easy-to-read book that gives information on the single body of water that the world is covered in. I especially liked all the interesting facts mentioned in this book and it was an informational and short read. Some of the facts that I found interesting were that the ocean has more tha one-and-one-half quintillion (15 followed by 17 zeros) tons of water - that 100 billion gallons of water for each person in the world - , how scientists use echo sounding to find out the physical features of the ocean, the cause of tides in relation to the moon and the sun, and the incredible numbers of life forms in the sea. There are also a couple of pages talking about waves - both destructive (tsunamis, hurricane waves) and normal waves that you see at the beach. The fantastic color photographs are simply breathtaking. This book also has good diagrams and the text is clear and concise.

We have the Oceans and Jungles books in this series and I want them all. My 2 year old son adores them. He finds new animals all the time and likes to hear all about them. I think the books are great because they combine the fun of a flap book with the mystery of a puzzle. They are beautiful to look at and lots of fun. I wish they'd come back in print, though I imagine they are expensive to manufacture. We think they're worth it!

I bought this book for a birthday or Xmas gift for my niece, and would highly recommend it to anyone, I like it so much that i want to go out and buy the other books in the series for friend's children, the author did an extremely excellent job with writing it and putting the book together, I had a brief look through it and it's full of great facts, for children aged 6 and up, and for those who are writing up a School Book report an essay for a Contest, etc.
