Angels Dance and Angels Die is a completely unbiased telling of Jim Morrison's life with his commonlaw life, Pamela Courson ( or as Jim said, she was his "cosmic mate"). Throughout the years many have cashed in on their "experiences" with Morrison, ahem, Patricia Kennealy- I read her book. It singes with jealousy of Jim Morrison's devotion to Pamela Morrison and defamates Pamela's character, and unfortunately, Pamela isn't exactly here to defend herself now, is she?

If this book hadn't been written, the world, not just Doors fans, would be deprived of one of the most romantic, tragic love stories ever told. However this book isn't just a "story." It is unbiased, eloquent, and painstakingly honest. All the crazy rumors of Jim's death are put to rest.

And the ultimate suicide of Pamela Morrison was heartbreaking to read. As I read, I tried to imagine what it would have been like to be Pamela at the moment Jim Morrison passed away. Her so- called friends stopped coming around, members of the Doors tried to sue her because Jim had left Pamela EVERYTHING in his will. Death is funny, it brings out the best and the worst in people. And Pamela was only 24 years old. Imagine.

The night before Pamela died, she was having dinner with a friend, at the end of the dinner she stood up and revealed, "It's time for me to be with Jim now."
In the morning she was dead.

There is a song by Corinna Fugate called Angels Dance and Angels Die. This book will be remembered as one of the greatest romances ever written. To quote Doors keyboard player, Ray Manzareck: It's Romeo and Juliet. It's Heloise and Abelard. It's Jim and Pam.

A superb reference for the Venus de Milo

This is a superb reference for one of the most famous Hellenistic works of art.

It is nearly exhaustive in it's laser precise attention to the statue in the text, and equally well illustrated with photos of parts of the statue that the average tourist will likely never be able to easily see in person at the Louvre.

The photos throughout are mostly in a large format, making details that otherwise dissapear in small illustrations visible, such as the cracks and wear and tear of time. There are also numerous unusual and rare pictures from the history of the statue included (such as the faux replacement left foot created in plaster, but ultimately removed).

It also includes a brief mention of other noteworthy statues of the goddess Aphrodite in the collections of the Louvre.

The only possible downside for most interested readers is that the book is written entirely in French; there does not appear to have ever been an English translation published.

Never the less, if you are even remotely interested in the Venus de Milo (and you know who I'm talking to) then the French language is very likely not much, if any, of a hurdle at all.

The reader can gain a further appreciation for the beauty and history of this particular statue, and it will likely further interest the reader in finding out more about other great works of art.

Gustave Dore was one the most prolific artist of the 19th century. The book contains his biography, engravings, paintings, and drawings. I recommend this book to anyone who appreciates art. You will not be disappointed in this book; but beware the text is in French.

As the rest of the books in this collection this is a masterpiece to be kept like a treasure in your bookcase. In my opinion Majorelle, Gerome and Dinet complete alltogether the Olympo of this kind of painture. Plenty of well printed illustrations and a worthy monograph about the painter. It's a priceless choice, even though its high price ...

Two of my favoirte paintings in the Minneapolis Art Institute have always been the Rug Market and Young Greeks at the Mosque by Jerome. I have since seen other works in a similar style by other artists working in the Middle East and have become quite enamoured of the intensity of their works. Jerome's Middle East works have the vividness and in-your-face-reality of artists of our own American Southwest, like Reynolds and Remington. The character of the native people, the earthy reality of their lives, the heat and diffuse light of their environment are dipicted masterfully in "Arabs Crossing the Desert". What I found most informative in reading the volume, however, was the incredible variety of subjects, settings and styles chosen by the artist. Because of my own interest in the Middle East, his work there was familiar to me--I have postcard copies of some of his paintings of various buildings in Cairo--but his other work was less so. His animal studies, like "Lioness and her Cubs," and "Thirst" (depicting a male lion drinking the last of a dwindling source of water in a vast desert), and "Tiger and Cubs" are amazing in their detail. The more classical work "Pygmalion and Galatea" with its almost Vermeer like light, and "Venus Rising" a study much like that of Boticceli though derivative have their own unique spirit. The fierce ocean scene "Vision of the Captive of St Helena" has an intensity, a sense that one has happened into a drama just as it is occuring. Quintescentially representative of this awareness of the moment is my favorite of his works, "Duel After the Ball," depicting the death of Harlequin in a snowy mist shouded wood. Certainly a brilliant if not necessarily well known artist. This is probably one of my favorite art books.

This book serves as an outstanding reference of all laboratory tests for physicians, nurses, and technologists. The newer 4th edition has pocket size and cd rom formats and is magnificently referenced, cross referenced with amazing simplicity, and is clearly the best book of its kind on the market

I use this in my third grade classroom, for group research. The level of the reading can be a little more difficult for the average third grader. However, the pictures and info about the lake is really great for them.
