An eye-opening description of my relationship with Mom.

I picked up this book because I loved the cover. What I found inside was a notion I had not wanted to face -- that I was still tied to my mother, letting her guide my life. And she's been dead for 20 years. So far, I have worked through the first half of the book and already I am beginning to feel something about myself that I haven't felt in many years -- that I have some value. I weep as I write this, but now I know that I need to bid farewell to my mother and remove her from steering my life. Thank you, Marilyn and Mary for writing this book.

The best resource yet...

As a novice in the pharmaceutical industry I have found this book to be the best resource on a variety of issues I deal with, in processing requests for information about drugs. Although it would require a good amount of scientific expertise to be able to understand the book, it can at times also serve as a guide for lay people about the mechanisms of actions of specific drugs.I have yet to find another book other than the PDR to have this much information about therapeutics. No wonder its one of the widely read books in the medical community, and is a presribed textbook in most medical schools the world over.

i believe it is a marvelous book, written by the first dadaist-one of the most revolutionary movements in the twentieth century literature, tzara was the first to write it down, sharp and lucid,as though knives were questioning your essence of being -by cutting you up,leaving you with deep scars and petty beliefs, you are what you are, plus what dada says you are.a great book, one to keep in literature's hall of fame, kept in a golden cage,or a golden urinator...

A must read for students of medieval jurisprudence and for all those with an interest in either the history of law or of heraldry. The edition of Bartolo's text is fastidious and the translation is fluid, nuanced, and nearly flawless. The introductory material makes a good case for Bartolo's not knowing Hebrew nor having been given the right to bear his arms by the emperor. And after all these years, the hilarious letter by Valla is more an indictment of Valla's arrogance, predilection for invective, and ahistorical viewpoint than of Bartolo's "bad" Latin.

From the Inside Jacket

Review Date: 2008-05-16
Oversized, though not too big to fit on a bookshelf, this unique volume collects in one place the most detailed, accurate, and highly illustrated descriptions ever produced of a number of the world's most important modern warplanes. Some of these descriptions have been officially adopted by the manufacturers as the basic briefing material for potential or actual customers and VIP visitors who need a detailed overview of the aircraft. The individual chapters of this book offer perhaps the best and most authoritative profile it is possible to obtain on the aircraft with the exception of classified documents. Each chapter was produced in close collaboration with the relevant authorities, and their value is enhanced by incisive comments, vivid action photographs, superb color illustrations, and helpful explanatory diagrams.

In Gail Gibbons book, The Great St. Lawrence Seaway, Gibbons not only shows and tells children about the system of locks and canals on the St Lawrence River, she also weaves the history behind the seaway into her nonfictional account. This step by step process of the build up of the Seaway and how it functions is clearly and easily understood by young children. Students in the classroom also note that her illustrations convey the build up of towns and people along the banks of the St. Lawrence as more and more ships were able to pass along the waterway!

Everyone has heard of this trial. However, until I heard this rendition of the trial and play I wasn't as interested. This play sheds new light on it and makes it so much more interesting and actually brought it to life for me.

I first encountered Ceravolo almost 6 years ago, after first diving into Celan. The odd conjunction proved more fruitful than one might think. Underneath the green lake's awake surface, tense with linguistic wit and ingenuity (so characteristic of the New York School--for better or worse) is a dark depth that resonates long after the verbal fireworks are ashen. How a genuine and humane sorrow comes draped in such life-tuned language is a marvel no budding poet should miss, and for the poet in full bloom, Ceravolo's voice, like wind, will pollinate from afar. What plants spring up in spring are not narcissus around the lake--this lake, Ceravolo's lake, will be surrounded by flowers that are unique, are his own.

A Good Book in Good Condition
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.

I got this book in the mail not too long after I ordered it. It is an old book obviously, but it was in very good condition; probably what it looked like when it was new. None of the pages are bent, ripped, or anything like that.

It's a very good book, with examples and reading samples in Gregg Diamond Jubilee Shorthand. It turns out that it's the same textbook that my mom used when she was in college!

The Birth of Air Raids
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2001-11-28
Unparalleled in the history of warfare, the Luftwaffe's elite "Condor Legion" flattened the remote Basque town of Guernica in April 1937 during the experimental Spanish Civil War of 1936-1939.

This historical novel dissects the facts on why and how the ancient capital of Basque honor and history met such a lurid fate. It picks up history turns it into a minor degree of fiction to enhance realism and drama and culminates it with the infamous bombing operation, openly argued as the lab and crucible of the European war and a preface of events to come in Warsaw, Rotterdam, Pearl Harbor, Dresden and Tokyo.

The use of primary accounts by motley eyewitnesses absorbs the reader into an increasingly suspenseful pace. A restaurant owner, a manufacturer of weapons, a liberal priest, a radical Republican officer and an empathetic nun-turned-into-nurse make up a most credible, yet unconventional "dramatis personae."

The book also provides a generous and abundant narration on the evolution of the strategic buildup of the mission, the tense politics between German pilots and Spanish Francoist officers, the military background in the Basque valleys and villages, and the depiction of Erwin Von Richtofen (cousin of the highly decorated and ultimately fallen Red Baron) as the mastermind of the raid. The book is intelligently written.
