The book's thorough introduction offers valuable insight into this pivotal author, Aloysius Bertrand, and his contribution to the evolution of modern poetry. The prose poems themselves are beautifully translated, steeped with haunting images of the middle ages--sublime, brutal, and devilish at a turn. One clearly sees how Gaspard de la Nuit influences the prose poems of Charles Baudelaire (published as Paris Spleen). Altogether, this is a beautiful and significant book.

I have truly enjoyed this collection of works that represent every genre on the spectrum. The short stories, the poetry, the humor pieces, the excerpts from local history have all held my attention. The length of each entry is just perfect for its genre.

Every book Fr Bunge writes is a little masterpiece, and this is no exception. Here as in his other works he begins with a straightforward concern -- in this case, spiritual fatherhood in Evagrius' writings. He then procedes to explore the writings of Evagrius, which he has obviously contemplated for some time. As the study progresses, he teases out the importance of direction in spiritual life and describes the goal of Christian 'gnosis'. This last bit is particularly worth attention, since somehow the peculiar habit has spread of thinking of 'gnosis' in terms of repressed heresies, Oriental exotica and the like. But of course 'gnosis' was of interest to all sorts of people in the ancient world and it is the signal merit of this gracious little book that it reasserts the claim on 'gnosis' of mainstream Christianity, in Evagrius' time and in ours.

This is a wonderful geometry text and very reasonable. We are a homeschool family and this is perfect for us.

This handsome book provides an important resource for artists and collectors. It is a fitting tribute to a major artist. The essays are good additions to the book. Though they are not particularly scholarly, they are informative. The illustrations are excellent.

Wonderful series... especially when the chosen book is something the child really relates to, e.g., in this case, having a grandma and grandpa who live on a lake.
