Applying Qualitative methods in EFL or ESL

This book is like a cook book on what to do first and last in conducting qualitative research, especially for English teachers in English as a Second or Foreign Language (ESL or EFL). Talking about cook book in qualitative research, one would very willing to recommend couple of books available in the market, for example, Miles and Huberman¡¯s (1994). A cracking little book

I bought this book for my daughter. A lovely story with great characters. My daughter loves it and reads it over and over again asking questions about the characters. Looking forward to others in the series. Thought-provoking classic!

Though some may find it somewhat boreing by its length(some 500 pages), I consider Telemacus to be just about the best book I've ever read. Africa in the 1950's amd what might have been

Suart Cloete started off in West Africa and travelled down to South Africa covering many of the countries in between in the late 1950's in the twlight of the colonial period. The book's essentially a chapter by chapter look at the countries he visited, the state of their economies, the education system, infrastructure, resources and standard of living, but written as a travelogue rather than a textbook. At the time he wrote, Cloete was full of hope for the african continent, a hope that shines through in the book when he talks about the excellent infrastructure and governance that was in place at the end of the colonial era and the potential for africa to develop (the "african giant" of the title). <br /> <br />Interestingly, at the time Cloete wrote, many african countries GDP's were greater than those of the SE Asian countries who were in the same "twilight of colonialism" period. A comparision Cloete makes. Most notable to me in reading this book 45 years after it was written were his descriptions of Nigeria and the Belgian Congo, two countries which were left with outstanding infrastructure and incredibly rich resources. Both have been abject failures and the contrast between their portrayl in the book and their current situation is more than saddening, it's tragic. A HAUNTING GOOD READ

Agnes Quill: An Anthology of Mystery presents four adventures of the teenaged detective who has the ability to see spirits and communicate with the dead. The setting is the marvelously constructed city of Legerdemain, a modern day Victorian city filled with dark secrets. Agnes is kind of a spunkier, more action-oriented version of the hit TV show Ghost Whisperer. She helps spirits find their way into the afterlife, but usually only after avoiding a lot of trouble for herself. <br /> <br />In the opening tale "The Mummified Woman and the Divided Man", Agnes has to help the spirit of an elderly woman locate a precious family heirloom, that happens to be buried within her body and later must help a man locate his missing legs. It's a haunting, but lively story, beautifully illustrated by Jason Ho. <br /> <br />"Zombie Lovetrap and Buried Homes & Gardens" finds Agnes helping a man whose ex-wife has cursed him by causing all of ex-girlfriends to rise from the dead as flesh eating zombies to take their revenge on him. Agnes then meets a society of people who live below the surface of the streets in their own little world. But someone is trying to wipe them out by shutting off their power and Agnes has to solve the mystery before it's too late. This story is illustrated by Jeff Zornow. <br /> <br />In addition to the stories, the book also has several interesting extras including a field guide to Agnes' world and the various supporting characters. There are also several excerpts from Agnes' journal. All the stories are written by Dave Roman. This is one of those books perfectly suited for black & white. The art is great throughout and it's a great diversion to everyday graphic novels.
