Soul Development - Edgar Cayce's Approach for a New WorldReview Date: 2000-03-11
Walk with GodReview Date: 2005-02-22
I was happy that at the beginning of the book, Kevin has pointed out that many people - whether spiritually inclined or those who have no interest in spirituality look for ways to be done and over with this life - to check out so to speak. Yet, the idea is not to run away, but rather to bring Spirit into one's daily life, to bring Spirit to earth. The one who "walks with God" in his daily life, does not have desire to run away, but rather to be of service, to be helpful, to express love and light of God.
In many of the "readings" which were done for people who were looking for the cause of the problems they were facing in their current life - the "cause" was traced usually to something they did or lessons they haven't learned in past lives - yet, it doesn't matter whether you remember your past lives or not, the only true "cause" of any problems in the present is living one's life from the state of mind of separation of God. The main "lesson" to be learned is to let Love, Power and Wisdom of God flow through in one's daily life. When the individual chooses - decides - to put God first, and to walk with God every moment of his life, when the person chooses to let God express through all that he thinks and says and does - the problems fall away - because the lesson has been learned. This doesn't take years of suffering - it can happen as instantly as the individual is willing to open himself completely to God.

The Spirit Garden: A Medium's Journey
Getting to the Truth before ScienceReview Date: 2008-02-26
It is clear to me now why the overwhelming evidence for the survival of consciousness after physical death produced by some very respected scientists and scholars of yesteryear has been filed away in dust-covered cabinets when it should have been embraced by both science and religion. It was simply too complex and few had the time to sift through it all and make sense of it. Most people aren't prepared to understand second year college algebra without taking first year algebra, but that's what many people do in attempting to understand spirit communication. I suspect that is what Professor Steven Pinker, a professor of psychology at Harvard University, did when he looked into the subject. In an article titled "The Mystery of Consciousness" (Time Magazine, January 29, 2007), Pinker states that "attempts to contact the souls of the dead (a pursuit of serious scientists a century ago) turned up only cheap magic tricks."
If the good professor had started with this excellent introductory book by Roy Stemman, a veteran journalist, he might not have jumped to such a conclusion, although it is clear that there are some scientists and scholars who have their minds made up beforehand when it comes to paranormal phenomena and nothing will change their views. But for the open-minded person who is really interested in learning more about the subject, I cannot think of a better book to start with than this one. As the subtitle of the book states, it offers "a Comprehensive Guide to the Extraordinary World of Mediums, Psychics, and the Afterlife."
More and more people are being made aware of spirit communication by popular television clairvoyants like John Edward and Lisa Williams, but few of those people seem to be aware that there are - or were - much more dynamic and evidential forms of mediumship, including full materializations, the direct-voice (actual voice of the deceased), and the trance voice. "It generally takes years of patience and regular weekly séances with the same group of sitters before the slightest signs of physical manifestations occur or the faintest whispers are heard," Stemman explains why we don't have very much of that dynamic phenomena of a century ago. "In our fast-moving twenty-first century, with its numerous distractions, there are fewer people prepared to sacrifice their time to develop such phenomena."
Stemman discusses the various types of mediumship, including some of the most evidential cases of spirit communication on record, but he does not stop there as he also writes about spiritual healing, poltergeists, exorcisms, reincarnation and other subjects related to spirit. In his 50-plus years as a journalist, he has had the opportunity to meet and interview some of the famous mediums of the latter part of the 20th Century as well as to observe different phenomena. Thus, he writes from experience, presenting the material in a manner that can be understood by the beginner.
Anyone interested in modern clairvoyance - something which Stemman also discusses - should be aware of the mediumship of old, because it offers so much in the way of understanding the barriers to communication. "...I believe that with every passing decade, and despite the changes that occur in the type of mediumship displayed, we are building a body of evidence that will eventually be beyond doubt," Stemman concludes. "In the meantime, any individual prepared to carry out an investigation of spirit communication can reach his or her own verdict long before science makes up its mind."
Science always lags behind the truth. If you want to get to the truth before science does, you might consider beginning with this interesting, intriguing, and informative book.

Perhaps the most believable book about the paranormal?Review Date: 2004-06-12
Manning portrays an accurate and believeable tale concering his encounters with Richard Webbe, a 17th century 'Gentleman' with whom he corresponds through automatic writing. Webbe 'proves' his authenticity by having 500 people from the village (albeit the village from the 14th-19th century) inscribe their names on the wall of one of the rooms.
A very interesting book, this will keep you enthralled and, as a bonus, also has a strange twist at the end. Thoroughly recommended.

Excellent and concise book for allReview Date: 2002-05-31
It is excellently organized, succinctly packed, and is brilliantly written. And most refreshing thing of all - it is neither pedantic nor overbearing. The logic and arguments are presented in layman terms and hence can be an easy introduction to people with no prior skeptical background. People with prior knowledge of the subject would definitely appreciate the insight, strength of arguments, and classification of the wide subject matter presented in a condensed form.
After I read the chapter on how word definitions (mis-)lead people into seemingly unresolvable arguments, I remembered some arguments I witnessed over the years which could have been avoided and peacefully resolved if only the participants knew that their 'language' is not precise and accurate. Hence the author shows skepticism works for us in day to day affairs equally as with strange happennings and claims.
By presenting very simple logic, the author provides insight and solves such seemingly complex problems as the Russell's paradox, without the reader even knowing the "heaviness" of the subject. He effectively uses the same simple arguments to debunk nasty pseudo-scientific claims that are draining our precious energies and resources.
In short this book is a must read for all of us.

Dukes is the king of ontological anarchy.
free yourself from the tyranny of RealityReview Date: 2006-03-09
Subtitled "Confessions of a Right Wing Anarchist", the book dissects government and media in order to free us from "seeing through other peoples visions of the world". Ultimately though, the book reaches far far far beyond politics or media, and questions how we see the world through our own vision. We use different maps to navigate through reality, in the form of beliefs, preconceptions, ideals, attitudes, etc... are these maps actually tyrants that dominate us?
The hilarious (and incredibly enjoyable to read) ideas in this book help to clear away mental baggage, helping readers to question what they take for reality. Is reality what you have read in newspapers or heard from politicians, but have never experienced? Is reality going to a boring job every day, waiting until you retire to enjoy yourself, having routinized and predictable conversations, never thinking about what other possible ways you could be living your life? What would life be like if you stripped away everything you have learned, all the beliefs and habitual ways of living that have been socialized into you from the moment of conception?
Through "guerilla warfare of the mind" we can begin to live more free lives, and understand what we are by clearing away habitual ways of thinking/acting. For people who have read SSOTBME (another highly recommended Ramsey Dukes book), this book explores darker and deeper terrain and aims at a more intense rewiring of readers perceptions. This is one of the most original books i have ever encountered, and it would be difficult to match. A very interesting characteristic of Dukes' work is the way ideas weave through his various writings, forming an interesting body of work that seems to constantly develop and progress. So, if you have read anything else by Ramsey Dukes you should definitely get this one.
One very tempting comparison to make with this book is to the movie "Fight Club"... they share the general idea of changing the way you live, living outside of convention, and testing the limits of what your mind will let you get away with. I would not be surprised in the least to find out that Fight Club is inspired by this book (well, actually... it would surprise me if Chuck Pahlaniuk, authour of Fight Club, was interesting enough to have even heard of Thundersqueak).
Your will not regret buying this book, it is totally amazing!

Explanations of happenings revealedReview Date: 2004-05-22
For instance, one time while driving home one night, I felt a strong 3 taps on the back of my right shoulder that really had me thinking if someone was in the back seat. I ignored the occurrence but continued on about one quarter mile to the nearest store. When I arrived, I immediately exited the car. Expecting to find an friend playing some prank, there was no one there. Suddenly I felt the familiar tingle on the back of my neck and proceeded home.
I'd say that within one tenth of mile in front of me, pick-up truck followed by a police cruiser appeared from a side street; thankfully going away from me.
This is one example of "odd" happenings that I have witnessed in my lifetime and always have wondered, WHY?
Since I have found this book, I've discovered explanations of how God sends angels to help in times of need. The author tells the story of her discovery of her gift from her childhood to present day, and how our Lord has guided her to help solve problems incuding murders- The latter being from the victims themselves giving her the clues through "clairaudience."
I rate this book high because it helps all of us to understand the "gift" we all share, and how to use it.
