I first read this book in 1989, and decided to use all the info in this book.... to go on my own search for the five best psychics in the English speaking world. And I found them! If we were across a table, I'd tell you a lot of interesting stories o that happened in my search. But when I saw THIS book pop up on Amazon.....I just had to come on and let everyone know that this book gives the best advice of all. And Get a reading with the Author of this book. She is the best of the best (no kidding). I've been to Sylvia Browne and Kevin Ryerson of Shirley MacLaine fame, and Victoria Weston....I can tell you from ten years of reading transcripts...is the very best on the money - bold predictions that come true - psychic anywhere. I'm not promoting, just telling it like it is, and no book is as good as this book at giving you insight and direction. After all, the fact that some gifted people have this ability is a great gift to all of the world. All you have to do is find the real ones, and begin one of the most interesting adventures of your life.

John Thomas Richard has written a truly valuable work on the subject of psychokinesis, while shedding much light on his mentor, John Neihardt--author of Black Elk Speaks. JTR is a compassionate, brave, and generous man, qualities which surface in many of his moving and well written descriptions of Neihardt, Neihardt's Skyrim Farm, of psychics he has known, and, most important, of the value of seeking harmony in our relationships with people, nature, and one's self.

Thank the powers that be, that there's Kevin Todeschi and that he continues to write such clear and inspirational books, like « Soul Development. » It didn't take reading more than three pages of his latest book for me to begin to remember what is most important in my life and begin to untangle the confusion that I habitually surround myself in. Edgar Cayce may be gone but at least Todeschi brings a here-and-now relevance and comprehension of Cayce's insights to my life, how and where I live it. What a blessing. And with each new book a different aspect of myself and of how to get along in the world is explored. If Mr. Todeschi didn't keep writing new books, I'd just have to read his others over and over again.

Walk with God
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2005-02-22
This book is rich in so many wonderful insights both by Edgar Cayce and Kevin Todeschi. The book contains many stories from Edgar Cayce's readings as well as follow-ups with individuals who received readings. While the stories are entertaining to read, the main purpose of these stories is to illustrate how people's lives turn out when they choose to follow the voice of Spirit within them, and how it turns out when the choose to ignore it. The emphasis is always on individual's choice.

I was happy that at the beginning of the book, Kevin has pointed out that many people - whether spiritually inclined or those who have no interest in spirituality look for ways to be done and over with this life - to check out so to speak. Yet, the idea is not to run away, but rather to bring Spirit into one's daily life, to bring Spirit to earth. The one who "walks with God" in his daily life, does not have desire to run away, but rather to be of service, to be helpful, to express love and light of God.

In many of the "readings" which were done for people who were looking for the cause of the problems they were facing in their current life - the "cause" was traced usually to something they did or lessons they haven't learned in past lives - yet, it doesn't matter whether you remember your past lives or not, the only true "cause" of any problems in the present is living one's life from the state of mind of separation of God. The main "lesson" to be learned is to let Love, Power and Wisdom of God flow through in one's daily life. When the individual chooses - decides - to put God first, and to walk with God every moment of his life, when the person chooses to let God express through all that he thinks and says and does - the problems fall away - because the lesson has been learned. This doesn't take years of suffering - it can happen as instantly as the individual is willing to open himself completely to God.

Review Date: 2005-08-13
Although Dr. Thurston has a patent manner of writing, with most books having a very similiar format, this book's content is excellent. The concept of the "Ideal" in the Cayce readings is without doubt the single most important function in a person's life and was the central tenet of most of the life readings. The relation of the soul to their purpose becomes active when and only when there is consideration and meditation on this core directive. Dr. Thurston approaches this heady subject, which oft times is difficult to navigate in thousands of readings through multiple channels (ie purpose, destiny, talents..), as well as Cayce contemporaries Jung and most importantly Guirdjeff's use of Self-Observation (which Cayce referred more than one curious soul to study).
All in all, a very good book, with some good ideas.

Very thought-provoking

I picked this off the bookshelf at a bookshop and it is certainly one of the better books I have come across to help oneself work out onefs soul purpose in life. This slim volume doesnft go into specifics of which path to follow, but through various exercises and examples of other people, leads you to discover what are your strengths and weaknesses. Using this as a base and through meditation and further exercises you can find what feels right for you. It does not necessarily mean finding the perfect job, but finding something in your life that fulfils you. One point that is not often dealt with by other similar books is that finding meaning in our own lives should not be self-centered: we should also include some form of service to others. Most of all, finding fulfillment does not mean we must all be high achievers and have some visible form of success. We can each find meaning and fulfillment in our lives by living our soulfs purpose, which is unique to each and everyone and which in turn complements that of those around us.

Plus, the book is gorgeous - purple and gold throughout, like the cover. Highly recommended.

I am a spirit medium myself. I love reading and learning as well as teaching. This book has made an excellent companion to my research library as well as being a book that I just couldn't put down. Even I learned from reading this! Great for the begginer or advanced, it has been well researched and written. Also recommended for anyone interested on gaining a great insight on spirit communciation, and to know what happens after we die. It goes beyond that, as a great many things are explained here and the book covers a lot of ground. You will feel staisfied and feel like you have taken a mini course after reading this.
The Spirit Garden: A Medium's Journey

Getting to the Truth before Science
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-26
When I first started reading about mediumship and spirit communication some 20 years ago, I struggled to understand what it was all about. The old researchers and other authors who observed the various phenomena usually assumed too much when it came to the reader's understanding of what they were talking about.

It is clear to me now why the overwhelming evidence for the survival of consciousness after physical death produced by some very respected scientists and scholars of yesteryear has been filed away in dust-covered cabinets when it should have been embraced by both science and religion. It was simply too complex and few had the time to sift through it all and make sense of it. Most people aren't prepared to understand second year college algebra without taking first year algebra, but that's what many people do in attempting to understand spirit communication. I suspect that is what Professor Steven Pinker, a professor of psychology at Harvard University, did when he looked into the subject. In an article titled "The Mystery of Consciousness" (Time Magazine, January 29, 2007), Pinker states that "attempts to contact the souls of the dead (a pursuit of serious scientists a century ago) turned up only cheap magic tricks."

If the good professor had started with this excellent introductory book by Roy Stemman, a veteran journalist, he might not have jumped to such a conclusion, although it is clear that there are some scientists and scholars who have their minds made up beforehand when it comes to paranormal phenomena and nothing will change their views. But for the open-minded person who is really interested in learning more about the subject, I cannot think of a better book to start with than this one. As the subtitle of the book states, it offers "a Comprehensive Guide to the Extraordinary World of Mediums, Psychics, and the Afterlife."

More and more people are being made aware of spirit communication by popular television clairvoyants like John Edward and Lisa Williams, but few of those people seem to be aware that there are - or were - much more dynamic and evidential forms of mediumship, including full materializations, the direct-voice (actual voice of the deceased), and the trance voice. "It generally takes years of patience and regular weekly séances with the same group of sitters before the slightest signs of physical manifestations occur or the faintest whispers are heard," Stemman explains why we don't have very much of that dynamic phenomena of a century ago. "In our fast-moving twenty-first century, with its numerous distractions, there are fewer people prepared to sacrifice their time to develop such phenomena."

Stemman discusses the various types of mediumship, including some of the most evidential cases of spirit communication on record, but he does not stop there as he also writes about spiritual healing, poltergeists, exorcisms, reincarnation and other subjects related to spirit. In his 50-plus years as a journalist, he has had the opportunity to meet and interview some of the famous mediums of the latter part of the 20th Century as well as to observe different phenomena. Thus, he writes from experience, presenting the material in a manner that can be understood by the beginner.

Anyone interested in modern clairvoyance - something which Stemman also discusses - should be aware of the mediumship of old, because it offers so much in the way of understanding the barriers to communication. "...I believe that with every passing decade, and despite the changes that occur in the type of mediumship displayed, we are building a body of evidence that will eventually be beyond doubt," Stemman concludes. "In the meantime, any individual prepared to carry out an investigation of spirit communication can reach his or her own verdict long before science makes up its mind."

Science always lags behind the truth. If you want to get to the truth before science does, you might consider beginning with this interesting, intriguing, and informative book.

The Strangers

Perhaps the most believable book about the paranormal?
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2004-06-12
Matthew Manning grew up in an old house, a house we're led to believe that has a ghost. In this instance, though, the ghost believes that he's still alive (for the most part) and living in the early 18th century. He ponders what these people, these Strangers (the Manning family), are doing living in his house.

Manning portrays an accurate and believeable tale concering his encounters with Richard Webbe, a 17th century 'Gentleman' with whom he corresponds through automatic writing. Webbe 'proves' his authenticity by having 500 people from the village (albeit the village from the 14th-19th century) inscribe their names on the wall of one of the rooms.

A very interesting book, this will keep you enthralled and, as a bonus, also has a strange twist at the end. Thoroughly recommended.

Excellent and concise book for all
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2002-05-31
With little over a hundred pages and primarily written as a text for a course on skepticism, this book is deceiving on both these counts.

It is excellently organized, succinctly packed, and is brilliantly written. And most refreshing thing of all - it is neither pedantic nor overbearing. The logic and arguments are presented in layman terms and hence can be an easy introduction to people with no prior skeptical background. People with prior knowledge of the subject would definitely appreciate the insight, strength of arguments, and classification of the wide subject matter presented in a condensed form.

After I read the chapter on how word definitions (mis-)lead people into seemingly unresolvable arguments, I remembered some arguments I witnessed over the years which could have been avoided and peacefully resolved if only the participants knew that their 'language' is not precise and accurate. Hence the author shows skepticism works for us in day to day affairs equally as with strange happennings and claims.

By presenting very simple logic, the author provides insight and solves such seemingly complex problems as the Russell's paradox, without the reader even knowing the "heaviness" of the subject. He effectively uses the same simple arguments to debunk nasty pseudo-scientific claims that are draining our precious energies and resources.

In short this book is a must read for all of us.

This book was used in my Psychology of the Paranormal class. It is a useful tool to help people learn to think critically about thier own thoughts and the thoughts of others. Included within it are basic fallacies, common arguments for the paranormal and against it, and other useful psychological information concerning how we make sense of the world. A must read for anyone serious about examining paranormal phenomena of any kind.

Ramsey Dukes is brilliant in writing convincing arguments to bring about your own inspiration for change and growth. He illustrates the hows and whys of change, one of the truly hardest things to pursue in one's life. The benefits of reading this book are innumerable, and if you want something easy to get into and challenging, order this.

Dukes is the king of ontological anarchy.

free yourself from the tyranny of Reality
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2006-03-09
This book is absolutely phenomenal... it is nearly impossible to convey how amazing it is, or to even touch upon how deeply it probes into reality as we know it.

Subtitled "Confessions of a Right Wing Anarchist", the book dissects government and media in order to free us from "seeing through other peoples visions of the world". Ultimately though, the book reaches far far far beyond politics or media, and questions how we see the world through our own vision. We use different maps to navigate through reality, in the form of beliefs, preconceptions, ideals, attitudes, etc... are these maps actually tyrants that dominate us?

The hilarious (and incredibly enjoyable to read) ideas in this book help to clear away mental baggage, helping readers to question what they take for reality. Is reality what you have read in newspapers or heard from politicians, but have never experienced? Is reality going to a boring job every day, waiting until you retire to enjoy yourself, having routinized and predictable conversations, never thinking about what other possible ways you could be living your life? What would life be like if you stripped away everything you have learned, all the beliefs and habitual ways of living that have been socialized into you from the moment of conception?

Through "guerilla warfare of the mind" we can begin to live more free lives, and understand what we are by clearing away habitual ways of thinking/acting. For people who have read SSOTBME (another highly recommended Ramsey Dukes book), this book explores darker and deeper terrain and aims at a more intense rewiring of readers perceptions. This is one of the most original books i have ever encountered, and it would be difficult to match. A very interesting characteristic of Dukes' work is the way ideas weave through his various writings, forming an interesting body of work that seems to constantly develop and progress. So, if you have read anything else by Ramsey Dukes you should definitely get this one.

One very tempting comparison to make with this book is to the movie "Fight Club"... they share the general idea of changing the way you live, living outside of convention, and testing the limits of what your mind will let you get away with. I would not be surprised in the least to find out that Fight Club is inspired by this book (well, actually... it would surprise me if Chuck Pahlaniuk, authour of Fight Club, was interesting enough to have even heard of Thundersqueak).

Your will not regret buying this book, it is totally amazing!

Especially a lady in Gulfport who I am blessed to be able to say IS my other mother.

Explanations of happenings revealed

I've always wondered why various "feelings", either of forboding or of anticipation occurs at certain points in one's life.
For instance, one time while driving home one night, I felt a strong 3 taps on the back of my right shoulder that really had me thinking if someone was in the back seat. I ignored the occurrence but continued on about one quarter mile to the nearest store. When I arrived, I immediately exited the car. Expecting to find an friend playing some prank, there was no one there. Suddenly I felt the familiar tingle on the back of my neck and proceeded home.
I'd say that within one tenth of mile in front of me, pick-up truck followed by a police cruiser appeared from a side street; thankfully going away from me.
This is one example of "odd" happenings that I have witnessed in my lifetime and always have wondered, WHY?
Since I have found this book, I've discovered explanations of how God sends angels to help in times of need. The author tells the story of her discovery of her gift from her childhood to present day, and how our Lord has guided her to help solve problems incuding murders- The latter being from the victims themselves giving her the clues through "clairaudience."
I rate this book high because it helps all of us to understand the "gift" we all share, and how to use it.
