This book is very informative and written in an easy to understand way. The reader need not have any prior knowledge of the subject to understand the content. It's also a great quick reference guide for those a bit more experienced.

The classic, unsurpassed work on ESP, ghosts & hauntings.

This book is the unsurpassed "bible" of how to investigate haunting cases by the knowledgable director of the Office of Paranormal Investigations, Loyd Auerbach. It is witty, well-written, and gives an accurate and entertaining account of basic concepts such as the types of ESP, how to differentiate a ghost from a haunting, and identifying fraud. Though hard to find, this book is a real must read for anyone at all interested in the subject.

This book is packed with interesting and useful information, including a great deal of fascinating history. There are scores of additional resources that Ingo Swann names, and so this is a great introduction to the overall subject. I enjoyed the author's style and way of approaching his reader, and I felt wonderful about being guided through the material by him. It is a pity that this book is out of print- grab a copy!

A Medium's Autobiography
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2004-09-28
This is a fascinating autobiography by a very successful medium. The most interesting part is her gripping account of some of her sittings, which she does without revealing the names or whereabouts of her clients. From her mindboggling and yet very touching experiences, one feels transported into the world of spirits. There is no doubting her descriptions. Her language has an easy flow and a personal touch that quite inspires one to read more and go higher into mediumship. A consistently inspiring book and a must read for mediums or psychics who wish to know how to handle their clients or write about them, the best way that could be done.

FutureSight is an astonishing story filled with more real truth in it than you will find in many non-fiction books. As you read the insights in this book, they will ring true for you deep within your soul and you will know that what the author shares with you in this book is the truth even though it is written as a work of fiction. I read this book in 1983 when it was published under another title. I can tell you from first hand experience that it is possible to develop your psychic abilities to such a degree that the knowledge that comes your way from developing these abilities will make life easier for you than you ever imagined possible.

super book, a must read for the sceptic and developing psychics

Mia's story of her rather dramatic development as a psychic medium throughout an abusive childhood and relationships is fascinating and sometimes amusing. Particularly so when her spirit guide insists on talking to her out of thin air. She is a lovely person to meet as well at her events and it is good for us women psychics to get more publicity now., this book reached the top 10 best sellers in The Times book list and still sells really well here in the UK. It's a good read and one of the few around now that is enduring.

Insight Into The Development of a Psychic

Review Date: 2006-02-14
Mia Dolan's lifelong struggles against poverty, abusive men, and family losses makes an interesting memoir even if the psychic parts were omitted. It details her efforts to survive verbal and physical abuse and to make a life for herself and her children and to overcome the circumstances and poor choices that try to drag her down.
Adding another dimension to this, is the awakening of her "gift" which enables her to help others. For those skeptical of anything they cannot see for themselves, this may seem too airy-fairy. For those with open minds, it's fascinating to see the development of Mia's psychic skills.
This book was published in the US under the title, "I Know Why We Are Here."

As an annual visitor to Atchison, KS, I purchased this book after I learned a little about the "Haunted History" of Atchison. I loved the book and all of the stories. I love the history that's included and the personal stories. A very fun read.

I was born and grew up in Wichita, and now live out in the sticks near Udall. I loved the stories in this book, and I thought the author did a really great job in telling them.
I always looked for stories close by hoping for a chance to investigate them myself. Definitely recommend this for people looking for a really creepy ghost story to get them through the night.

Makes living in Kansas seem worthwhile!

Please don't let this great book fade into the prairie sunset!

As a college student, and a future teacher, I'd like to pat the author, Lisa Heitz, on the back for a job well done. I own this book and have read the "good parts" over and over.

The story that really sticks out for me is "Hamburger Man." I grew up around the Sand Hills near Hutchinson, KS, the setting of that particular urban legend.

By the time I was ten, thanks to a few too many slumber parties, I was terrified of this homocidal, deformed, and cannibalistic maniac!

Despite my high school boyfriend's urgings, we never found our way to any "lover's lanes" near the Sand Hills. No doubt, my mom and dad would be pleased to know this...

But I didn't know even 1/10 of this eerie tale until I found an entire chapter devoted to the infamous Hamburger Man in this book.

Yes, I prefer to sleep with a night light on...

Because of Haunted Kansas, or in spite of it, I've visited many of the places mentioned in the book. And I intend to visit more of them, as time permits.

This is the one stop guide to Kansas ghosts.

This is a real science book (so it takes some brains to read), so it is not for everyone. But, I thought it was cool because the content was diverse, balanced, and not hyped. It is pricey, but it is priced like textbooks. The best source there is!

Finally, an academic and mulitfaceted examination of ghosts!
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2004-10-05
This book is the only one of its kind, from my experience. It is an actual textbook devoted to the examination of ghosts, haunts, and poltergeists from a myriad of academic perspectives like history, anthropology, media studies, comparative literature, sociology, psychology, physiology, and parapsychology. Each discipline has its own chapter, and the chapters are arranged into three sections: Sociocultural Perspectives, Physical and Physiological Perspectives, and Psychological Perspectives. Unlike most books on ghosts, this one cuts through the spin and sensationalism to bring the reader authoritative information on what academia knows about these phenomena. Also, the book's chapters are written by the top researchers in the field. This book will set the standard for a long time to come. It is highly recommended reading for serious students and anyone interested in the science behind what appears to be "seance fiction."

I recently purchased this book and I think it is the best book on this subject that I have ever read! Al G. Manning writes in a postive, uplifting way and I would recommend this book for anyone who is interested. Definitley worth it!

Excellent volume with good "practical" information.

I first read this book when I was about 14, around 1978. There is a concentration exercise using a number 2 pencil that I still remember to this day. This book approaches E.S.P. from the standpoint of accessing the untapped capabilities of our physical brain. Although the theme is generally metaphysical, I found the book to be very scientific, practical and sensible. I highly recommend this book not only to those interested in E.S.P. but also to those interested in enhancing their more traditional mental abilities such as memory, focus and attitude.

This is an amazing book. Rev Mary not only shares her own amazing journey, but guides the reader through what it takes to become a channel as well as simply a better person. She reminds of us of things we so easily forget on a daily basis like how important prayer and meditation are, being a good listener, dedication to helping others (as well as ourselves), patience, and honesty.
