I thoroughly enjoyed this book for its educational and heart-warming values. Dr. Thomas presents several studies that show how science is learning to tap into the spiritual side of the physical existence. Even if one does not subscribe to the methods of telepathy, her accounts with the animals are uplifting and inspirational. I feel this book would be very beneficial to other animal communicators in addition to those interested in the subject because of her scientific education and work experiences. Very well written and easily understood in laymen terms for the average reader!

For anyone who's loved an animal or wondered about the meaning of their lives with us, this book will astound you and bring tears to your eyes. Why are they here? Why do they do so much for us? Their lives are so short compared to ours, can they come back and be with us again? If you have asked then this book is the answer.

This is the fascinating little book that explains how it all works. As a fan you may have watched it all on Dark Shadows....time travel, parallel time. Well Borzellieri does an expert job explaining how it all works, on the show and how it might/does work scientifically in real life, if possible.

It is a fun book that can used for fun intellectual discussion whether at parties or just hanging out.

If you are a Dark Shadows fan you MUST add it to your collection. If you are a physics expert or fan you would probably enjoy this one.

Excellent!

Time travel was an essential part of the Dark Shadows storylines. As a child, watching it, I always considered it to be just so much fantasy. However, Frank Borzillieri, in this wonderful book, describes just how these journeys through time are actually possible scientifically. However, lest the potential reader think this is some dry, scientific tome, it is anything but. The author manages to explain the physics of time travel in a very understandable, entertaining way.

I highly recommend the book to anyone who has pondered the exciting idea of traveling through time. The reader need not be a Dark Shadows fan to appreciate it. All one needs is an open, curious mind.

Frank Borzellieri, writing about difficult and possibly impossible things, has done the nearly impossible: given us a short, savvy, sage, and delightful book about the physics of Dark Shadows. How could I resist this book, combining two of my favorite things - television and time travel. But this little primer does more - it addresses such complex issues as time travel and ESP with both intelligence and humor. Where else can you find a little discussion about Einstein, Godel, and Hawking, with a limerick from J. Richard Gott's book, "There was a young lady called Bright, who could travel faster than light; she set off one day, in a relative way, and returned home the previous night"... Hey, if you want to try a time travel novel, take a look my The Plot to Save Socrates ... if you want to try learning a bit about time travel, take a look at Frank Borzellieri's book...

Monica's portraits are very special and I feel that they are very important at this point and time in Earth's evolution. Each portrait seems to radiate such love, peace, and healing, and yet are thought provoking and stimulating. While some people may be challenged and confronted by some of the beings that have been drawn, I have always been fascinated and attracted to them. Some of these portraits radiate such happiness and delight that one cannot help but smile. I feel that the portraits, especially of the inter-dimensional beings, help to heal flawed perceptions of what is "normal", transmuting prejudice and expanding one's consciousness by expanding and breaking the paradigms of normality and of what constitutes intelligent life forms and what it means to be "human". The stories of these beings are fascinating and well-written and are filled with ideas and notions supported by the hyper-dimensional model of physics. These portraits, I feel, are preparing us for the future, forcing us to not only think globally, but to think universally.

Monica's story is compelling and is an inspiration to us all. She is a master of her craft.

I highly recommend this book.

Can we access other realities through imagination?

Monica Szu-Whitney is a psychic painter who allows images to arise from the psyche. She then draws or paints these images in a process she calls "tunneling". Gary Whitney, Monica's partner, assists in her inner voyages and records her experiences. The book presents 24 such inner journeys in story form. With 32 color drawings and a black-and-white drawing for each chapter, the art is unusual -- both haunting and compelling. Are these true life forms from other dimensions? Monica's encounters suggest we can receive healing techniques, wisdom and entertainment from these interdimensional beings.
The Whitney's work validates the imagination as a tool for accessing material buried in the individual and collective unconscious. She goes into the deeper psychic layers, the substrata of her consciousness, draw out and paints these images.
The book raises the question of whether humans can access other realities and other dimensions. Can imagination coupled with will bring us into contact with other intelligences in the universe? Whether you agree or not, the concept is intriguing and likely to inspire others to plumb their psychic depths.
This book deepened my trust in the power of imagination. The poet William Blake referred to imagination as another sensory organ. Read this book, and you'll never scoff at imagination as a trifling capacity. It can be a portal into wonderful and mysterious realms.

Insightful theory with practical applications

This is a fascinating book! Once I started, I could not stop until I got to the last page! This book was first published just a year after Einstein had published his ground-breaking papers that lead to the field of quantum mechanics. The value of quantum mechanics can be readily observed by its relevance in a multitude of fields today. Likewise, the importance of this work in modern society can be clearly measured by its effects on contemporary America. Of course, the author did not have the advantage of understanding the world through the lens of 20th century advances in the sciences. Nevertheless, one can see how relevant this book is to our time by seeing the references the author makes to justify his Theory of Vibration. The initial reaction of the superficial reader may be one of skepticism. That's quite understandable, given the depth of this tome. In my experience, books of great significance require multiple readings to derive the maximum benefit. If you see a line you don't understand, ponder upon it. How does the author's 1908 English translate into modern day scientific thought? Insight is achieved with effort to understand great works. Take for example, the Hermians, having carefully saved the historical documents of Nesmith and his crew, followed in his footsteps to acquire the ability to defend themselves against Sarris. Only when you understand the author's Theory of Vibration can you acquire the powers that this book was meant to give you. And when you do, you will find yourself a different person. In short, figure out if you have not yet learned this material by searching inside the book on this site (or in a bookstore). If it looks like there is something to learn, then the small amount of money this book costs will more than compensate you in terms of wisdom and insight.

Sensible explanation of mind power
Helpful Votes: 24 out of 24 total.
Review Date: 2004-08-11
This interesting work from 1908 takes quite a practical approach to the idea of mind power. Whereas most of the early New Thought metaphysicians tend to write in the mystical tradition, Atkinson seems to concentrate on explaining mental phenomena from an angle where science meets the occult.

He starts out with the law of vibration by first demolishing the tenets of materialism and then by comparing mental power to scientific theories of vibration with analogy to sight and sound. He claims that there exists a scientific explanation behind the beliefs of mental science, beliefs that belong in the field of physical science more than in metaphysics. Atkinson quotes some of the scientists of his own time in support of what was then known about vibrationary rates.

He explains the different types of thought waves and the atmospheres that seem to inhabit places. The two main factors in the manifestation of mental influence are concentration and mental imaging, both of which the author explores in detail. He also discusses the two general forms of the use of mental influence that he calls "fascination" and "hypnotism." Influencing at a distance, like distance healing, is also covered.

A particularly interesting chapter is the one on mass influencing, where certain ideas and beliefs can spread far and wide amongst large sections of a population. Atkinson also points out how advertising and sales techniques draw upon this ancient knowledge of thought power. He then shows how vitally important it is for the individual to be resistant or at least aware of the various currents of ideas prevalent at any given time.

He discusses white and black magic and concludes the book with a chapter on psychic protection. He urges the reader to look up to the higher self for aid and strength in order to avoid being affected by the waves of feeling or emotion sweeping over the public mind, which have a tendency to stampede people into adopting certain ideas. By affirming the flame of the spirit of the great I Am within, the individual can protect her or himself and remain firmly rooted in a healthy state of independence.

Atkinson `s insight is timeless. Considering that this book was published in 1908 with the tragic 20th century still to come, many of his ideas were ahead of their time and strangely prescient. The science of quantum physics has only added to the legitimacy of his wise words insofar as it confirms that everything is energy.

As mentioned before, Atkinson takes a very practical approach to explaining the mechanics of thought power and in this way appears to lean to the occult side of esoteric science more than the mystical. I do not mean this in a negative way, as his observations and conclusions are similar to those of the other early teachers of New Thought. He is certainly an advocate of what William James called The Religion of Healthy Mindedness.

Atkinson's contribution in this book is particularly valuable in explaining how fashions, trends and certain good or evil thought patterns can spread around the world, how susceptible the individual is, and what one can do to stay immune. I highly recommend this thought provoking book.

Stephan Schwartz has written one of the classics in the field of consciousness research. This book should be in the collection of everyone serious about understanding psychic functioning. The book is beautifully written, and the arguments its makes are very compelling. The first chapters tell the stories of some extraordinary people who have used their psychic abilities to locate archaeological sites. The later chapters give the reader a context in which to consider this information. I found it a rare pleasure.

The Secret Vaults of Time, by Stephan A. Schwarz

Review by Saul Paul Sirag

The subtitle of this book is "Psychic Archeology and the Quest for Man's Beginnings." It is good news that this book, originally published in 1978, has been republished by Hampton Roads in 2005. It describes in detail six episodes of the use of psychic information to answer the archaeologist's most pressing questions: where to dig, what one is likely to find, and even what it means. The accounts range from Glastonbury Abbey in England to Indian village sites in Canada, as well as Scotland, France, Poland, Egypt, and Mexico. Both the archaeologists and the psychics are presented as real characters-quite colorful characters-in stories that are stranger than fiction. The last three chapters constitute an essay on the philosophical and scientific implications of this breakthrough work. Two appendices provide practical advice for the use of psychics as team members in archaeology. This well illustrated book is a delight to read - and ponder!

Fascinating book with compelling evidence for psi effects

Review Date: 2005-05-17
Stephan Schwartz has been involved in discovering, refining, teaching, and using remote viewing techniques for many years. In The Secret Vaults of Time he entertainingly documents the way psi techniques, such as remote viewing and similar psychic talents, have been used for the last hundred years or so in the field of archaeology. He reveals the stories of a number of people who have used such methods to guide their archaeological explorations with astonishing success, but for obvious reasons have sometimes kept to themselves the fact that their initial guidance came from psi methods rather than established traditionally scientific approaches. Even if you are not particularly interested in archaeology (and especially if you are), you should enjoy the book. Clearly Schwartz carried out a great deal of painstaking research for this book, sometimes seeking out relatively obscure references (including in some cases unpublished personal notes from researchers). For anyone looking for clues about whether psi effects represent a hard reality supportable by experiment or whether they are simply fantasy dreamed up by those who wish it were true, this book is an excellent resource. There is a great deal of concrete evidence presented that something "real" is going on here, even if it falls beyond the current mainstream scientific paradigms. A mind sufficiently open to look honestly at the evidence is really the only pre-requisite; from that point you can draw your own conclusions about the validity of these ideas. For me, this book is rather compelling. However, those people who already know with certainty that such things do not exist, regardless of any evidence (which they may safely ignore because it can only be lies or deception), need not bother with this one. For the rest of us, I highly recommend the book, the first in Schwartz's "Engineering of Psi" series. In my opinion writing is excellent and the material is fascinating.

An Extraordinary Book

Review Date: 2008-10-07
How very pleased I am to be reviewing Shapeshifting with Our Animal Companions, by extraordinary author and intuitive mystic, Dawn Baumann Brunke. This is her third book exploring the deep, spiritual nature of animals. Previously, Animal Voices and Awakening to Animal Voices demonstrated the power and wisdom gained through animal communication, an ability Dawn possesses to the highest degree, using that ability to interact with animals in the most honorable and insightful way. Her newest offering excels in the field of metaphysics, an essential manual for discovering who we truly are in our expanded selves, as we allow the supposed borders between ourselves and others to dissolve through the process of shapeshifting.
I would easily categorize this volume as a textbook, one that should be carefully studied and kept close for personal reference, so rich is the material presented by the author. And in this age of rapidly shifting and expanding awareness regarding all forms of life, we need all the help we can get. But don't be fooled by the term textbook, because once you start reading, you will find it virtually impossible to put it down. Skillfully written, words and sentences, ideas and concepts flow beautifully one to the other.
For much of the book her dog, Barney, is her companion, guide, and teacher, initially while alive in his physical body, but then after his death, in his spirit consciousness. Barney leads Dawn - and us, their readers, into realms that may seem improbable on first glance. Eventually, however, as one reads on, we realize all the possibilities and probabilities Barney and other beings (in a variety of form and consciousness) offer for consideration, and personal practices well worth adopting.
Dawn Baumann Brunke has been well-known and respected in her field of healing, metaphysics and animal communication for many years. Her work with animals and spirituality is a gift to all, and in my opinion, there is no one finer to turn to for the guidance and assistance we all yearn for, consciously or subconsciously, as the world around us and within us changes and evolves. Shapeshifting with Our Animal Companions is a grand book, well-crafted by the publisher, with comfortable print and generous-sized pages. I could not recommend it more highly. Gaining Spiritual Benefits of Shared Animal Consciousness

Review Date: 2008-10-09
SHAPESHIFTING WITH OUR ANIMAL COMPANIONS takes readers deeper into Dawn Baumann Brunkes world of animal communications to the realm of conversations and merged consciousness with other living beings. The shapeshifting Brunke describes in this book is that of sharing consciousness with others, and thereby gaining newfound appreciation for other lifeforms as we let go of our old ideas and habitual patterns, experience life the way other animals live it, and gain a tremendously expanded knowledge and understanding of the significance and spirit of all that is.

The idea that our animal companions in everyday life can also be spirit guides is at the heart and soul of this book, as Brunke shares insights she has obtained from her pet dog Barney that assist her in learning to blend consciousness with others. Brunke's journaling of a variety of plant and animal communications that ensue bring us along on her journey, which ends up illustrating how we are all interconnected -- how we are all One.

The plants and animals who communicate with Brunke share wise messages which sound much like the perennial teachings from long-established spiritual faiths and traditions, which is what gives this Brunke's third book on animal communication a much more spiritual tone than its predecessors. As Brunke's dog, Barney, transitions from life to death, a deep sense of eternal connectedness comes through the messages that Brunke continues to receive from Barney, even after his passing. Many of Barney's messages to Brunke remind us of simple truths which we so often tend to forget, and can greatly benefit from taking time to remember... such as everything you need is right here, right now.

I highly recommend SHAPESHIFTING as a book that can help you transcend boundaries between yourself and others... even those who cannot speak, and those who have passed on. This is one of those rare books that leaves readers feeling a "reader's high" long after the last pages are read and the book is placed back on the shelf, as it continues to work its special magic in our hearts.

Fascinating read!

Brunke details with tender honesty her journey to more deeply understand, and interconnect, with animals. She begins by narrating her special relationship with her pet dog, and how he guides her to experience a different realm where she can tap into not only the thoughts of animals, but her own past lives. With dogs Barney and Zac as her guides, Brunke learns the fine art of shapeshifting which enables her to communicate not only with dogs, but wildlife and even plant forms. Some readers may be skeptical of Brunke's experiences, but her writing is so honest, straight forward and raw that it is easy to understand and believe in the experiences that she describes. Her story is not only original, interesting, and compelling but dives into spiritual issues that lie at the core of our lives. Readers who are fans of Conversations with God will definitely enjoy Brunke's spiritual conversations with animals. This is not only a beautiful nature narrative (much of the book takes place in Alaska), but will shift the way you relate to all non human life forms. The lessons in this book will help readers to connect with animals, and all life forms, on a deeper and more profound level.

Review: She walks on Gilded Splinters by Gene Dwyer.

The book is about Marie Laveau, a Voodoo "queen" who devastates the New Orleans community every twenty-five years, committing a series of sensational murders.

It is an intriguing combination of fantasy and violence set against the backdrop of the history and consequences of the slave trade in New Orleans. The author has written a gruesome thriller with moral implications, both a reminder of the inhuman practice of slavery and the cruelty inflicted on an innocent people, and that the results are still with us. Must we answer for the sins of our forefathers? Is compensation due to the descendants of those who were so abused? Can anything wipe out the consequences? Can the past ever be forgiven? Has it been forgiven? Will it ever be forgiven? One need only glance at what hurricane Katrina did to New Orleans and its largely black population to be forcibly reminded that problems connected with race still exist in America

These controversial issues, which may offend many, were not what made me read the book avidly from cover to cover. Whatever is in the mind of the author, an American judge, he has produced an absorbing and exciting story with a lurid historical background. It is not a religious sermon.

In the first pages I was sceptical about the absurd concept of magic, invisible monsters and the living dead, but soon became involved in the STORY, that Marie Laveau, whose tomb may still be visited in New Orleans, is still alive and taking revenge on the descendants of anyone who had taken part in the American slave trade. Voodoo, in a horrible and disgusting fashion, is real.

Once you have got into the book you will find that the author has managed a strong degree of verisimilitude and you find yourself living in the pages of the narrative with real people, in spite of the impossibility of what is being portrayed.

This is an absorbing, fascinating suspense story which will at times disgust, but which will ultimately compel the reader to follow it to the final nail-biting conclusion.

Light relief is supplied by policeman Marvin's dog, Yorick, and his fishing, a real Man's dog.

Although not for the oversensitive, this is a thriller with a difference which is definitely worth reading and which could make a successful horror movie with plenty of scope for special effects.

Although Marie Laveau the person will never be captured, Gene Dwyer has successfully captured her essence in his remarkable book, "She Walks on Gilded Splinters." As we learned during 911, one tragic event can unleash simultaneously the forces of good and evil. "She Walks on Gilded Slinters" recalls events that depict the worst suffering man can inflict on man and thereby unleash forces of revenge that take their toll over generations. You will not forget Marie Laveau. As the author states, "Getting an education makes people so skeptical they don't believe what is right in front of them. . ." If you can suspend your intellectual beliefs for just a moment, you will believe not only in magical, miraculous things, you will also discover the true meaning of immortality.

SHE WALKS ON GILDED SPLINTERS is not so much the story of Voodoo Queen, Marie Laveau, as it is an unexpected mystery. Mr. Dwyer artfully blends a combination of blood, gore, sex, mystery and history into a Louisiana gumbo you can smell and taste. You will not want to put this book down as you near the end. I cant praise this book enough. This book answers questions about life that I didn't know could be answered. Krisnapada writes like he was born under a banyon tree listening to ancient swami secrets, took that knowledge to a modern day University and crashed it all together to make up the truth. I could not put this book down.

a must-have it!
