Practical and useful information!

Dion Fortune is way beyond most authors with her esoteric knowledge of the afterlife. Although this is a thin book, it packs more information than others on the subject that are five times bigger. Rarely does anyone mention the "seed atom" in their writings which is very important to understand especially when it comes to the transition process. Sometimes the author's wording is difficult to comprehend on the first reading but that is her style of writing. I rate this book four and a half stars only because there were a couple of concepts I disagree with from my almost 60 years in the metaphysical field, however, until we actually make our transition, one really never knows what the real truth is. In summation, this book would be helpful to anyone, either in preparation for their own transition, or to help others. So worth the money and time to read.

Again and without fail, Dion Fortune captures the spiritual truth with an unabashed style of writing and gives clues to the ancient wisdom that civilization left behind. I loved this book.
This was practical information with love.

A metaphysical and mystical guide to understanding and accepting the transitions that come with death
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2005-09-06
Dion Fortune's Book Of The Dead is a metaphysical and mystical guide to understanding and accepting the transitions that come with death, how to help the dead on their journey and avoid hindering the soul, how to prepare oneself for dying or the loss of the loved one, and how to grieve. Chapters discuss the journey of the soul beyond life, why it is improper to seek to contact the dead under most circumstances, and offers simple advice in contemporary language as to what the living can do for the dying and why. Originally published as "Through the Gates of Death" in 1930, then in a revised edition in 1995, Dion Fortune's Book Of The Dead retains the timely wisdom of psychologist and psychic Dion Fortune (1891-1946), recognized as one of the most insightful contributors to 20th century esoteric thought.

The subject of ESP has generated much skepticism and doubt to the extent it has become very difficult for genunine scholars and scientists to properly study it in an open academic environment for fear of ridicule. This book is a plea for all people to seek, accept and to study a very real and poorly understood phenomenon. After a per chance meeting, Dr. Leon Curry and psychic Greta Alexander developed a study relationship in a mood of academic exploration. Following their studies, this book should be a great catalyst in helping to scientifically enhance and to mature a better understanding of psychic abilities, and useful applications. This well written and well documented book is about a caring physician with total integrity, top credentials, and a mind for scientific excellence. Ms Alexander obviously has a well documented list of psychic observations which are awesome.

Dr. Curry has written a wonderful book challenging the medical establishment to research a field about which much is written and discussed but little is scientifically studied. He believes some people have marvellous psychic abilities, and that they can help medical doctors make difficult diagnoses. This book describes a larger than life woman he came to know over many years who correctly diagnosed illnesses and amazed many with her keen insight, doing this not for profit but for the good of mankind. Curry doesn't ask you to believe on faith. He wants deep scientific studying and probing in a field most scientists shy away from.

I was a skeptic. I still am. But this book makes me wonder. It is a book containing some jaw dropping facts and it deserves to be read. Plus, it was fun to read.

What an interesting detective story! "ESPete" is packed with quirky, unique characters, each with quick, sharp humor. A quick read, but filled with "I didn't see THAT coming" moments. Movie executives are sure to snap this one up and make it into a smart, fresh movie and TV franchise.

I loved this book. The whole book kept me interested and I really could not guess where the plot was taking me next. I had forgotten about all of the trials of the sixth grade. It was a pure joy to read about it without having to relive any of it! I have purchased additional copies to give to my grown up brothers for the holidays. They will really relate to being bullied in school. They will also get to remember the stress of liking a girl and not having a clue.

What a wonderful book! Great plot, sub-plotts and charachters. Many hard life lessons that reach the core of a pre-teen world! I liked the need for critical thinking skills and taking difficult subject matter and normalizing. I liked that the book spoke to the audience and protrayed fears and relationships in a realistic way. This book was fun, interesting, and it made me laugh as well as empathize with the charachters. There are always bullies and hardships and this book did a terrific job at showing the audience how sometimes the bully is just trying to find his or her place in the world too! I would highly reommend this book to kids and adults that like adventure! Looking forward to the next in this series!

I saw this book and thought "OOOHHH, I so have to read this", and I am glad that I did.

I love how the author gives us a brief history of each location, good foods to eat, etc. before going on about the actual haunting. Given the history of each place makes these hauntings that much more interesting to read about instead of hearing "XYZ place has a spirit of an old lady wandering the halls..." I am interested in visiting these places because the author of this book has made everything seem so real and appealing.

A fun, entertaining ghost travel guide

This is a refreshing and delightful book written by someone who is obviously as intrigued by ghosts as many of us "ghost aficionados"! He spent much time and money traveling to every state in the country to visit a haunted location- most of them inns or hotels. Mr. Whitington's chapters convey his enjoyment and enthusiasm and make this a fun read as well as a travel resource.

I love this book-- it is fascinating!

Here are *some* of the haunted places that are mentioned:

** The Birdcage Theatre- Tombstone, AZ

** The Crescent Hotel- Eureka Springs, AR

** The Winchester Mystery House- San Jose, CA

** The Stanley Hotel- Estes Park, CO

** The Lighthouse Inn- New London, CT

** Historic Jameson Restaurant & Inn- Wallace, ID

** The Red Lion Pub- Chicago, IL

** The Eldridge Hotel- Lawrence, KS

** The Mason House Inn- Bentonsport, IA

** The LaLaurie Mansion- New Orleans, LA

** The Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast- Fall River, MA

** Lemp Mansion- St. Louis, MO

** Chico Hot Springs Lodge & Ranch- Pray, MT

** The Argo Hotel- Crofton, NE

** Luxor Hotel & Casino- Las Vegas, NV

** Luna Mansion- Los Lunas, NM

** Chumley's- NY, NY

** Ben Lomond Historic Suite Hotel- Ogden, UT

** Rosario Resort- Eastsound, WA

** The Irma Hotel- Cody, WY

There are MANY more haunted locations in this book. Also there are many B&W photos in the book.

One of my favorite stories was the one at the Irma in Cody, WY. The author and his wife personally experienced a ghostly phenomenon there in their room.

I was absolutely chilled when I read that story!
It was VERY C-R-E-E-P-Y!

I have been to several of the hotels listed in this book.
One of the ones I've been to is the Eldridge Hotel in Lawrence, KS.
They actually have a photo there that they keep behind the front desk that someone took of a ghost in the elevator.
I've seen that picture- It's VERY EERIE. (I wasn't fortunate enough, though, to catch a glimpse of a ghost there with my own eyes!)

~~~~~The author includes a haunted site for each of the 50 states. Mitchel Whitington is totally believable and 100% credible. All of these stories are true.
He is a great writer!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Fascinating historical background about Mediums and mediumship. The Emmons capture the human courage, doubts, dedication, and faith of mediums who are Guided by Spirit to use their gifts. This book is rich in both academic research and personal stories. Destined to be a classic reference, it is recommended reading for those learning to use their gifts of insight and for all who want to learn more about the phenomina of Mediumship within the Spiritualist religion.
Informative & well worth reading
Using their own colorful, personal experiences and those of other mediums,the authors present an intriguing, well-rounded view of mediumship. In a field still not widely researched, this book offers a revealing glimpse into the "hows" and "whys" of communicating with spirits. Information gleaned from interviews of some of today's most respected mediums - coupled with historical facts about personalities of a bygone era - combine to make the book very readable. Yet its insights challenge the reader to examine how spiritualism fits into his or her own belief system. It's well worth reading, for both those experienced in the metaphysical and those who are just beginning a spiritual journey.
Some time ago an acquaintance offered to do a spirit reading for me, but I felt reluctant to try what I didn't understand. Then I read "Guided by Spirit." In the book I found an objective, sensitive exploration of mediumship. It gave me a feeling for the people who channel, their motivations, doubts, methods and compensations. The seekers too are treated respectfully; I have an idea now who comes to listen, along with informed opinion on the nature, value and reliability of what they take home with them. "Guided by Spirit" includes factual background information about mediumship's place in history, religion and politics, as well as in the authors' personal journies. The Emmons' have quietly confident, relaxed writing styles inviting the reader to kick back and consider. Is there a message for me? Only Uncle Harry knows.
For those that do not believe or think that this is impossible, think again. Any book by Dr.Baldwin is a MUST READ if you are interested in, or are going to attempt Spirit Releasement. After learning all I can about this subject and participating in, and cunducting therapy sessions, I can say that it's TRUE. After my clients failed to accept my suggestion therapy, I took to sprit releasement and you will not believe the amazing things that have taken place. Is it real? All I can tell you is that spirit releasement WORKS! Yes, this work is years ahead of it's time, but when is it the right time? That time is now as we seem to be moving on a tide of planetary changes in human consciousness. GET IT, READ IT.
I just finished reading "Healing Lost Souls", and I must say that I'm not really sure how I feel about this subject. The ideas it contains are quite new to me, and I will need to take some time to digest them...
In this book, the author discusses his findings (as well as the findings of other professionals) that people on earth can be impacted by the attachment of earthbound souls, "dark force entities" &/or extraterrestrials (ET's). The idea being that when there is a weakness in our auras, it's easy for these non-physical entities to enter into our physical being, and impact our lives in quite significant ways.
The author also describes his way of helping these entities move on - a therapy called SRT - where the experience is treated as real (no matter how off the wall it sounds), and the entity is spoken to in a calm, nice but firm way, where it's explained that they are disturbing this persons life & need to move into the light.
Other topics such as past life regression therapy & the history of exorcisms is also included.
Examples are included throughout where the conversations between therapist & non-physical entity are noted, and the change in that persons life after such sessions are completed is discussed.
I would highly recommend this book to those who are interested in the paranormal, as well as to therapists who are unsure how to proceed with certain patients - as 1 or more of the therapies discussed here may be of help. One word of caution though, and open mind is a must!
I bought this book a year ago. I have several books about healing with crystals and this is the one I refer to most often. Diane Stein includes the healing properties of many uncommon stones which other books leave out. Her descriptions of each stone are short, concise and complete. A wonderful reference.... I use it all the time! I also appreciate the fact that much of the information is channeled.
Excellent concise reference!
I really love this book for a concise, not-overwhelming book of healing properties of stones. The biggest downfall is that there are no pictures, which is a big disappointment. But if I'm shopping for crystals there is usually a picture, so you can look for the stones whose properties you would like to have, then go out and buy it.
I would love to see an updated version of this with more than 200 stones in it.
A very helpful book
This is an excellent book. I was amazed by the number of different crystals and gemstones discussed (over 200!). I got it from the library and thought it was so great that I bought my own copy! A channeled book with lots of positive and helpful healing information. Using Diane Stein's book as inspiration, I have been carrying crystals everyday and have found them immeasurably reassuring and helpful. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in the diverse healing energies of crystals.
This book contains great information about how past life traumas can cause physical ailments, emotional and mental issues, etc. in our current life. Past Life Regression can help people to uncover these issues from the past and allows people to let go of them so that they can heal. The results are improved health and the elimination of issues that mainstream medical methods, psychotherapy, etc. are usually not able to heal. Past Life Regression heals permanently at the root of the problem rather than putting a temporary bandaid fix on the issue. I would recommend this book for those who are interested in learning how our past has helped to shape our present and how we can effectively heal ourselves permanently.
Great CD - what an opportunity!
Dr. Woolger's work in Past Live understanding is very deep and you can tell he is VERY passionate about what he does. He has pioneered a method of accessing the deeper inner realms we all have and he shares it in this book and CD. His classes are expensive and few and far between, so this is an amazing opportunity for most of us to be able to access his methods.
The chapters in the book are easy to work though and I like how he recommends you work through the accompanying cd as you go along. It makes it much more interactive.
GREAT book for those new to delving into past life research and exploration or for the more seasoned veteran. I highly recommend this book and CD.
Whether you are a skeptic or a believer, this book is a great find for anyone interested in a study of the paranormal and occult. The book written by skeptics, but I got the impression throughout the book that many of the authors would actually love to be proven wrong! The articles in the book give the reader tools to analyze in a scientific, logical and rational way any paranormal claim. Each article is well-written and thought-provoking.
My personal opinion is that it is possible for things to exist outside of the ability of science to explain or categorize. If you agree, you will probably find that you often disagree with articles in this book. But disagree or not, it is intelligent and though-provoking and a must-read for anyone who is seriously interested in the study of the paranormal and occult.
This book will definitely make you think, and that's ALWAYS a good thing. I recommend reading the book with a friend or partner so you will have someone with whom you may discuss the ideas presented.
